Re: VIZ 3-in-1 Editions Coming Summer 2013
To clarify, I did not check for any lip edits. I haven't read these volumes in ages and I wouldn't have remembered where to check.
All I looked for was the "big" edit in volume 09, which, as I mentioned, was uncensored. I apologize if my report was a little premature, but I didn't check for anything else because I didn't know what to check.

I thank you for what you did check because it gives me hope that it is uncutMagicBox wrote:To clarify, I did not check for any lip edits. I haven't read these volumes in ages and I wouldn't have remembered where to check.

Are Popo's lips being edited such a big thing it takes away from the enjoyment of the series? Personally I think he looks better that way.
Re: VIZ 3-in-1 Editions Coming Summer 2013
None of the censorship or alterations done by Viz in the recent editions actually take away from the enjoyment of the series (with the possible exception of the censorship of middle fingers).Super Sonic wrote:Are Popo's lips being edited such a big thing it takes away from the enjoyment of the series? So, in terms of enjoyment, there is nothing wrong the previous editions. But if they are going to advertise this edition as uncut, then it should be uncut.

Now that I think of it, since you live in Portugal, why are you so big on what happens in an English release?
Re: VIZ 3-in-1 Editions Coming Summer 2013
I'm assuming it's still the garbage paper quality... What a cock tease of a release this has turned out to be.

Re: VIZ 3-in-1 Editions Coming Summer 2013
There's only an incomplete release of the Dragon Ball manga in my country and language. The Viz's editions are the next best thing since I prefer english to, for example, spanish or french. So, I have all of the Vizbigs, I've looked at the recent regular Tankobon release and I've searched for information on them.Super Sonic wrote:Now that I think of it, since you live in Portugal, why are you so big on what happens in an English release?

That's a good sign, but I'm pretty sure that Officer Black always "kept" his lips in previous editions (correct me if I'm wrong). Guess we'll have to wait for Mr. Popo to make his appearance.

Actually, those are edited lips. Officer Black's lips were originally of a clearer shade than his skin but Viz made them the same color as his skin so that they weren't so noticeable. This is a comparison between the original japanese manga and a scan from my Vizbigs:doomydoomydoom wrote:That's a good sign, but I'm pretty sure that Officer Black always "kept" his lips in previous editions (correct me if I'm wrong). As you can see, their color is altered, just like in those 3-in-1s.
So, the 3-in-1s are confirmed to NOT be 100% uncut or unaltered.

Re: VIZ 3-in-1 Editions Coming Summer 2013
Shitfire...I should have checked with the damn scanlations first. (That's very sad, by the way, that a bootleg translation is more trustworthy than the official licensed product. I don't read DB scans though.)
Welp, guess this is the only volume of these wastes of space I'll be purchasing. Selective uncensoring, no translation revision. I'm glad I got it cheaply through an Amazon promo code; I feel a tad less ripped off.
LOL, I really have a rant against Viz and their whole treatment of DB, but it would make me look like a psycho so I'll just keep it to myself...
I'll just say that, unfortunately there are several manga I can think of that are in the same league, if not worse off. Shonan Junai Gumi (with its pitiful, egregious "adaptation" that features a ton of horrible minced oaths, which anyone who knows anything about the series and characters will see the problem with. Haven't read the Vertical translation yet), Jojo's Bizarre Adventure (surprise, Jason Thompson making more fantastic editing decisions about what he purports to be his favorite manga of all time. Yes, I'm talking about Yellow Temperance and the dog. None of this was restored with the new reprints and likely won't be for the digital release), and Maison Ikkoku (another great Gerard Jones "adaptation" which thankfully he has shown remorse for. My hope is that he would feel the same way about DB with the exception of his good naming choices).
Oh yeah, and Initial D! How silly of me to forget. Oh and Battle Royale! (Yes I hate Tokyopop. Hate hate hate.)
Plan B: learn Japanese! (Or at least just buy them and look at the pictures...not like I don't know what's going on I guess...)

Viz's translation is miles above those crappy fan translations...doomydoomydoom wrote:a bootleg translation is more trustworthy than the official licensed product.

His lips look more natural filled in than not. And is it worth complaining about? Same with Oolong's fantasy only without folks calling you a perv for complaining.

I'm only pointing out that this product, that has been advertised as uncut, is not uncut. I was fine with the previous editions.Super Sonic wrote:His lips look more natural filled in than not. Any idea about a re-print for Vol. 1?
Also, not much of a big thing and it might have been noticed before. But, you get a little more of the spine art in the 3-in-1's

Also, I'll be using the 3-in-1 and Kanzenban to photoshop the full image (waiting to get the vol. 4 and 5 of the 3-in-1's in the mail)

Just so you know, the "full" version of the spine they are using on the 3-in-1 volumes is already available in the Chogashu.eledoremassis02 wrote:Also, not much of a big thing and it might have been noticed before. But, you get a little more of the spine art in the 3-in-1's

Got volume 4&5. Paper quality is the same and checked Vol. 1 at the store. Still censored so no reprint yet.
Re: VIZ 3-in-1 Editions Coming Summer 2013
Wow, am I really slow or what? All this time I thought Viz was only releasing these 3-in-1 versions of JUST "Dragon Ball". I had no idea til just now that it looks like they're going all the way through the series.
I saw the Amazon listing for volume 7 with the item description talking about Vegeta and Freeza.
http://www.amazon.com/Dragon-Ball-3---1 ... ragon+ball
I only have the first three volumes, and I know people prefer the Viz Bigs, but I like these alright. I just wish they were coming out faster than they are.

Re: VIZ 3-in-1 Editions Coming Summer 2013
Just finished Vol. 5 and I just noticed something.
Viz said that Vol. 1 was a misprint as they printed the censored version.
well, while looking through all the volumes there is small difference between Volume 1 and Volumes 2-5
On many of the pages in Volume one there is a little Goku on the top right of the page to show you were to flip. The rest of the volumes don't have it.
I think almost all the versions had that up until this point (both cut and uncut). So, I am thinking Viz accidentally printed the Big Viz files for Volume 1.

Another thing to note is that unlike the other Volumes, the ink had problems sticking to the page (at least for mine)
