'Head Cha La' and 'We Gotta Power' Updated Versions?

Post by Gyt Kaliba » Tue Jul 08, 2014 7:46 pm

I seem to remember reading once here that there were newer versions of these songs from Kageyama, that were updated versions compared to the originals, and that not a lot of people really cared for them. Having not really heard them myself though, I got to wondering - was it just that they weren't the originals that made them so unliked, or were they legitimately just not as good as the classic versions?

And as a secondary question, has there ever been an updated version of Makafushigi Adventure or Dan Dan from their original singers?

You're thinking of the "2005 version" CD release.

I think we covered them on... uhh... one of the first podcast episodes. Probably a really hard listen :).

Anyway, they were just kinda... there. The instrumentation was kinda cheap and the whole thing just felt phoned-in all around. Kageyama was pretty solid himself, but everything was just meh.

There were indeed updated "Makafushigi" versions, too! There was an equivalent "2005 version" and then also something called "Inazuma Challenger" in 2008 where Takahashi did another new version of the song alongside a new version of "Romantic Ageru yo" from Hashimoto.

Same kinda thoughts all around on all of those.

As for "DAN DAN" there was Zard's own version she released on an album, and Shoko Nakagawa recently did a (TV-sized) cover of it for one of her anime cover albums, but nothing else from Field of View themselves.

I see, thanks for the info! I doubt the old podcast would be THAT hard to listen to - I have listened to some other older ones just fine after all :P - so I might have to check into that just to get some even further thoughts on it. Knowing what to look it up as now though, I was able to find those 2005 versions...and I can see what you and everyone else were talking about. It really is a case of 'not bad, but not good either'. Same goes for the Makafushigi cover, which saddens me because I've always been a bigger fan of that than any of Kageyama's work I admit.

I'd already heard the Zard and Nakagawa covers of Dan Dan though (didn't Nakagawa also do a cover for Romantic Ageru Yo, come to think of it?), those I actually like pretty well. I'm kind of torn between Zard and Field of View's versions honestly, and I would kind of like to see what Field of View would do with it anew...but...based on these other updates, my hopes aren't as high as they'd otherwise be. ^_^;

Really? I love the versions on Inazuma Challenger. Unlike the 2005 Version, he sounds really enthusiastic, and I love the instrumentation.
