I remember some fans feel like Uub was a rehash of Piccolo, but I don't think he's a total rehash.

GT destroyed Uub. The Majuub idea was rushed af & served only as filler for Goku vs Bebi.
Super 17 & later Shenrons just owned Uub like trash. Which is sad. He's reincarnation of Kid Buu, easily the most badass villain.
His EoZ fight against Goku showed even more explicitly in the anime of Uub's power. I liked his addition into the franchise & greatly reminds me of Kid Goku in early DB days. Wasn't cliched as Gohan nor overpowered as Goten was. The reincarnation idea seemed plausible & Uub really had abundant potential.

Re: Why do people like the character Oob?
Oob is the successor of Goku. In the end of Z, Goku left his family and friends to train Oob. I guess it's a nice feeling to know that it wasn't for no reason. I don't mind if the movies from now on take place before the last Tenkaichi Tournament (I forget which number it is). Quite frankly, even though it's unpopular, I hope no release clashes with GT. It's not that GT was great or that I really liked it, it's just that's part of the story I know. It would be a shame to totally wipe it from existence, good or bad.

I like it because of his potential.
In GT, he could have done better. i like the idea of him fusing with Majin Buu. But Goku should have taught him the Kaioken too.

A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

Re: Why do people like the character Oob?
I still think MajUub was the best idea they've ever had upon improving on a Z character. If anything in GT that should be canon later on if ever, its that. To have him regain his full potential + a few mystical augments could make him a very unique Concept.Gyt Kaliba wrote: Actually yeah, let's do get into GT a little bit, because it does concern Oob. That was the perfect chance for the character to shine, but they botched it there too, which only adds even more annoyance to the neglect of the character.
The only problem with it was it was cast out of priority, it wasnt treated as how most debut new forms are in the series. If it were Z he would have beaten the hell out of Bebi and force Bebi to run off at least if not beaten baby until Goku could finish him when he returns, that would have been satisfactory.Vijay wrote:GT destroyed Uub. But if a story is perfectly coherent (and I'm really not seeing any compelling arguments that this one is anything but, despite constantly recurring, really poorly reasoned, attempts to argue otherwise), and you're bemoaning the lack of "shine" moments as a reason for the story's poor quality, then you're letting your thirst for "shine" moments obfuscate your ability to detect basic storytelling when it's right in front of you.

Uub is mad whack. His last fight in Z was cool. Didn't care for him in GT, guess he's just written in poorly. He don't do shit, so I could care less for him... like Goten (aside from fusion).

Uub has a serious advantage over Goten in that he is not annoying. Let's give credit where credit is dueDarkPrince_92 wrote:Uub is mad whack. His last fight in Z was cool. MUST RESIT! GOTEN HATE! SHOTS FIRED ABOUT GOTEN! Defend Goten! Must Defend Goten! GOTEN HATERS! Goten is the best character in the damn show
I'm curious how Oob would have been in the main leader role. Would he bomb because it's Dragonball "without Goku!" or because he's human? Wonder how his stories would work out. I doubt he would get Kaioken(Due to bullshit reasons) and he can't transform. So he would have to relay on skill and battle smarts.

Re: Why do people like the character Oob?
The thing about Kaio-ken was always that Goku was the only one that knew it. Same thing with the Genki Dama. However, with Oob being the "proper" successor, I wouldn't mind if he learned it too. I kind of feel it's not Goku's place to teach Kaio's techniques, but I guess if he can do it, he can teach it. And I feel that the "Majuub" (I see FUNimation found a term that actually caught on) transformation was to compensate for his lack of being able to turn Super Saiyan lol Plus, Boo was a useless character at that point anyway lol I feel like at the end of Z, it would be messed up for the Z fighters to kill Boo, but at the same time, he serves no real purpose, so Akira Toriyama did as much with him as he could in that limited role lol
Anyway, I like Oob. He's different to the other characters. He's a lot like Goku. He's a kid who doesn't even know the depths of his own power. Plus, he doesn't know his amazing story and where he comes from, but everyone else does. I feel like that makes him really cool. He has this feeling to him like you know he came from greatness even if he doesn't. So thumbs up for Oob. Does he have a silly little mohawk? Yes. Does he have silly clothing? Sure. But he still has potential.

Re: Why do people like the character Oob?
Yeah I didnt like how he lost ONCE to Bebi and then immediately wanted to fuse with someone. If that worked he never not want to do it again... Its the thing I hated about Adult Goten and Trunks.DarkPrince_92 wrote:Uub is mad whack. His last fight in Z was cool. Didn't care for him in GT, guess he's just written in poorly. MajUubb could have been Piccolo/Vegeta tier if he was a z character. Instead hes just a failed time-buyer.

He doesn't wear an orange gi or Saiyan armor, so I kinda have to like him.

Uub keeps the story moving in the Baby Arc, that's all. He lost, he fused, he failed... and the story continued. I wish he was as cool as when I first saw him in Z.

Re: Why do people like the character Oob?
I'm going through the series again but didn't Goku say something along the lines of Earth needing a new hero? they need to learn to fight for themselves? I guess the poor guy was getting tired of bailing them out all time? I think Oob would have made a good protector. and I think if anyone was going to get the torch passed down to them it should be Oob. I like his character pretty good.Herms wrote:I guess I like the character because I like the idea of the series ending with Goku finally passing on the torch to a successor (while at the same time still striving to get stronger himself and find new challenges), with the possibility that maybe, just maybe the pass-on-the-torch thing will actually stick this time around. So in that sense I guess I like the whole setup at the end of the manga more than the actual character of Oob, who's mostly a blank slate, though I do like his character design at least. Anyway, since Oob basically represents future, untapped potential (the same way Gohan used to), the problem is that if you actually show his future life and adventures then it kinda takes away his initial appeal (see: Gohan in the Boo arc). A kid who can one day surpass Goku is interesting, while a guy who has surpassed Goku isn't quite so much (or at least, you need to go come up with something else for his character hook to be at that point).

The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128
