Filler You Wish Was in the Manga

Post by xmysticgohanx » Wed Jul 16, 2014 2:06 pm

Is there any filler you wish was in the manga. aka canon lol
Personally, I enjoyed Gohan's high school adventures and all the extended fight scenes in the Buu Arc (power level contradictions notwithstanding).
Canon is Jaco, Dragon Ball except for EoZ, Dragon Ball Super anime and manga (both are separate canons)
Kai >>> Z
Current Roshi/Kulilin >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> SSJ3 Gotenks

Vegeta's flashback of him, Nappa and Raditz reporting to Freeza and their later discussion over wether Freeza destroyed their planet or not.

Maybe not exactly as it was shown, but a Toriyama version of it or any flashback with those three would be nice.

Princess Snake (as it took Goku 6 months to cross Snake Way) and Paikuhan and Otherworld Tournament (excluding the Warriors of The Dead episode).

cell's flashback of when he was a little blue thing in a tube and dr gero was working on him and then the androids kill gero and try to blow up baby cell, but fail. It made me feel a little bit sad for cell. It kind of made me feel like his life really was a struggle.

Talking about sagas, I would like Garlick Junior and Other World Tournament to be in the manga.

Garlick Junior - Great character development for Gohan. Shows they dont always need Goku to save the day and that his son was growing up and ready to take his place in Cell saga.
Its always good Piccolo and Krillin having more screentime. And I like how they took Vegeta out of the picture. It will be much easier with his help, unless he became a demon too?! Well that would be interesting,

Other World Tournament - We got to know the other Kais, more about Other World itself and his fighters. I Like Paikuhan character and his battle agaisnt Goku even more.
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

I enjoyed the extra scenes and stories with the Pilaf gang in Dragon Ball. They helped established them as recurring villains, and their antics were always enjoying to watch. The first storyline especially benefited from having the main villains taking part in the plot from the get-go.

I also liked the filler stories with Colonel Silver. They really made him an intimidating face to the Red Ribbon Army for the initial part of the arc.
Favorite Movies: Alien, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, The Thing, Evil Dead, The Land Before Time
Favorite Shows: Cardcaptor Sakura, Doctor Who, Wallace and Gromit, Wakfu, Yu Yu Hakusho
Favorite Manga: Fullmetal Alchemist, Hunter x Hunter, Dragon Ball

I really enjoyed the Garlic Jr. arc actually

It might seem hard to include without having to include the film though, but saying that I saw the arc before I saw the film and I felt like I understood everything going on. I just felt that it was a nice break from Goku and gave some other characters a chance to shine.

Most of the early Pilaf stuff, felt like him, Shu, and Mai were barely in the manga.

Also that scene when Kuririn saved that woman and child at the airport from Cell. (glad they kept it in Kai)

A bigger fight between the Z fighters and the Cell Juniors like in the anime.

A bigger fight between SSJ2 Goku and Vegeta like in the anime.

Piccolo vs Babidi.

Namek fighters vs Freeza.

Piccolo, Krillin, Tien and Yamcha helping Gohan on the Kamehameha clash with Cell.

Vegeta, Nappa and Raditz flashback with Freeza, Zarbon and Dodoria.

Krillin fighting #20 and Imperfect Cell.

Buu Arc filler episode 274

Goku & Vegeta inside Buu Versus Illusion Gohan, Gotenks & Piccolo.

The fight itself was well choreographed, and you expect nothing else frm Masunaga Keisugi, but its the "dark" feel which intrigued me the most, which lacked in manga.

Vegeta training for the androids arrival. He got a whole episode that was filler.

I liked the fact that his obsession with Goku was making him lose his shit, but the idea that he was apparently able to sense Goku and felt he was close to finding him at various points is a bit contentious. It's just not necessary really, as it implies that Goku was deliberately hiding from Vegeta, as he'd surely be able to sense that he was being followed.

I liked the arc on the whole, but there's some nonsensical stuff I'd leave out - such as Paikuhan one-manning Cell and Freeza, and Goku's use of Kaioken in their fight. In a way it was sort of nice to see that move crop up again, but I can't help feel that it's a bit vestigal now that Goku has not only transformed into a Super Saiyan, but mastered the form.

I think that a lot of the Majin Vegeta fight padding is pretty awesome, and also the extra stuff thrown in during Gohan's fight with Super Buu/Buutenks. Even Super Saiyan 3 Goku's brief fight with Buutenks is pretty cool, if not a bit nonsensical.

-Most filler from the Hunt for the Dragon Balls arc
-The extra stuff from Goku and Kuririn's training
-The Colonel Silver mini-arc (except the monkeys)
-Son Goku solo Training
-Goku vs Panputto filler
-Goku and Chichi's wedding
-Gohan's adventures with the dinosaur and finding his way home, Princess Snake, Yamcha's baseball career and everyone training
-Goku almost drowning and having the vision of Vegeta in his fight with Freeza
-Garlic Jr arc (massively fixed for continuity)
-Vegeta training for the androids
-hunt for imperfect Cell
-Other world tournament
-everything from the Great Saiyaman arc - up until people arrive at the tournament
-extended Goku vs Majin Vegeta
-Goku and Vegeta inside Buu's brain, fighting visions

Not that one. After Future Trunks killed Freeza and spoke with Goku, everyone went and trained to fight the androids.

Episode 124 had Vegeta training in the capsule, Yamucha almost dying under 300x gravity and Gohan training with Goku and Piccolo, these were all filler.

I loved the driver license episode. I know, I know, it's fillerishly fillerish, but I think it would fit as a temporary "back to comedy" chapter in the manga.

Edit:
- SSJ2 Goku vs Kid Buu should have been there. It seems the most plausable of situations.
- The extended Fight with Vegeta and Zarbon
- Vegeta's Flashback of The Last known Super Saiyan didnt seem like a canon breaker either.
- The Gold Oozaru

- Olibu explaining the Dragonb Ball world
- Origin of the Tuffles and The Sayians
- Pikkon vs Goku & Pikkon vs Cell and Freeza.
- Super Kaioken. Needs to be canon.

But if a story is perfectly coherent (and I'm really not seeing any compelling arguments that this one is anything but, despite constantly recurring, really poorly reasoned, attempts to argue otherwise), and you're bemoaning the lack of "shine" moments as a reason for the story's poor quality, then you're letting your thirst for "shine" moments obfuscate your ability to detect basic storytelling when it's right in front of you.

Vegeta's Flashback of The Last known Super Saiyan.
Also, speaking of the fight between goku and kid buu, I really like seeing the villains in hell watching goku fight buu. That should have been in there. And I also think that vegeta admitting goku is better than him during that fight was done better in the anime. I liked how they showed flashbacks with the buu saga artwork. It would have been cool if in the manga Akira Toriyama did that too, instead of just having one blob of text.

I really liked the whole sequence with Bibidi, Majin Buu, and the Kaioshins from the anime. It was neat to be able to see it rather than just reading about it.

A lot of the filler in Dragon Ball was actually really good and could've easily fit in the manga. I especially like the training arc before the 22nd Tournament. For Z, I'd keep the pre-Saiyan saga training thanks to Gohan's character development, Piccolo and the others training on King Kai's planet, the 10 days before the Cell games, and the of course, the driving episode.

I enjoy the Saiyaman filler, but could do without it. Part of the joke was Videl immediately recognizing it was Gohan, whereas dragging it out makes you question her intelligence.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!
