I can't remember GT too much because it's been a while. but could he even defeat Freeza at his best? or would it have worked out like the whole future trunks thing. We don't know what's going on in his timeline we just hope for the best and it leaves his story to our imaginations?
I don't know, for me Dragonball is the saga of Goku. I don't really think that Goku is training Oob to protect the Earth, or at least that wouldn't be the primary reason. I think honestly, Goku just wants to unlock Oob's potential so he has someone to fight. It all depends on how you view the ending, was it the passing of the torch? Or just Goku looking for another challenge as the series had always been about?

I could have sworn I remembered Goku saying something a-long the lines of Earth needing a new hero and they need to save themselves instead of him doing it for them? I'm talking about the dub by the way. also in the dub of GT Goku said to Oob that he hasn't had a fight that's worn him out that much since Freeza. Was he lying a little right there? because he could have easily turned Super Saiyan 3 and defeated Oob...right? Was Oob strong enough to go toe to toe with a super saiyan in GT? Too many questions here hahaha I mean, How can he wear you out when you could have easily gained that extra strength that you were holding back and defeat him? :P

Also I think this is the kanzenban ending. I guess they're hinting as him being the new hero.

Also was this ending released in English? like a US release?

Just wanted to update this a bit because I went and checked some stuff. He seems to handle himself pretty well against Baby Vegeta? so I guess that means he can go toe to toe with a super saiyan 3 because obviously Baby is stronger than a SSJ3 right? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=59BF3B3GEek
The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

I definitely prefer the filler dance episode to the actual ending.

Uub is like John Blake in The Dark Knight Rises. I don't want to see anyone else as Batman besides Bruce Wayne, just like I don't want to see anyone else as DB's hero other than Goku.

Maybe that's where our opinions split on this, because I've always been much more fond of Terry McGinnis as Batman than I ever was Bruce Wayne. :P

Now that you mention it me too I think...
But maybe we should be viewing Oob as a Robin/Nightwing to Goku's Batman.

Really? I never cared for Terry that much. Bruce had a drive to do what he did that was unmatched, and Terry's intelligence and skills of deduction weren't as strong as Bruce's, which are two of Batman's greatest and most interesting traits. At least Terry had Bruce there to mentor and back him up, whereas Blake doesn't seem to have either. To bring this back to Dragon Ball, I'd much rather have a Terry situation concerning Uub, than I would a "Robin" Blake.
But maybe we should be viewing Oob as a Robin/Nightwing to Goku's Batman.
I could get on board with that.
