Yeah sadly I won't be going to the theaters to see it. It won't be showing near me. :( I'll just get it when it's released on Blu-ray.

Edit - Wonder why nobody has uploaded that advertisement that aired while Toonami is on. They usually have things like that uploaded fast. don't wanna look like a liar :?
The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

The closest theater to me that's showing it is in Lexington, Kentucky. I was going to go to Louisville, but then they added more theaters, so I get to make a shorter trip.

I just saw that commercial myself, on the 'west' feed for Toonami. I'm sure it was easy to arrange, what with all of the FUNimation shows on the Toonami block, but still, that was awesome to see.

Regarding the inevitable release of Battle of Gods by FUNimation; what do you think is the likelihood of them retaining the Japanese cast interviews from the Japanese Blu-rays?

I'm not particularly familiar with how they've handled their extras in the past. I don't believe there were any interviews with the cast at all for Kai's home release and of course, anything before that just doesn't exist. Apparently Japan likes to keep their cast interviews for TV!

I think this is actually the first time there's been so much behind-the-scenes content for a Dragon Ball product from Japan. I don't believe there's anything to previously judge FUNi's policy on handling this type of thing.

I imagine there'll be a heck of a lot of FUNi cast stuff as always but it'd be pretty nice to retain those extra features. Watcha think?

I'd say it might depend on what Toei gives them. I remember the special edition of FUNi's release of 'Fullmetal Alchemist: Conqueror of Shamballa' kept all sorts of Japanese-side extras - there was a big long discussion with the director, Seiji Mizushima; a couple of things talking with Romi Paku (Edward Elric) and Rie Kugimiya (Alphonse Elric), and pretty much all of the Japanese promotional trailers for the film. So there's a chance they'll keep those things if they can, and I really hope they do - I didn't even realize there were interviews with the cast on the Japanese release.

Funimation is pretty hit and miss on special features. For example, the 8 DBZ Kai parts merely have textless openings and endings with some trailers while releases like Eureka 7 and Panty&Stocking have extras out the whazoo. I'd say in terms of Battle of Gods, it can go either way, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

I would imagine it varies depending on the company they're licensing from.

They get One Piece from Toei as well and all of the bonus features have been dub-only on those releases (even the movies). Not even a collection of Japanese trailers. I really doubt we'll get any Japanese bonus features. Then again, they got that "Raw Footage" featurette from Toei for the blu-ray sets. And Discotek was apparently able to get the trailers for the Dr. Slump movies. Maybe FUNi just didn't want to pay extra for the One Piece bonus features, but they might go the extra mile for Dragon Ball?

I really hope they do because I would love to get the interviews and trailers (especially that one in which Freeza and Cell are arguing) from the Japanese blu-ray set.

There was that little behind-the-scenes video for the "Wings Of The Heart" single in which AKB48 visited the set of Kai and watched Nozawa and Horikawa record their lines. Not exactly an interview, but it's something that I'd have loved for FUNi to release as an extra.

I'm from Somerset but live in Lexington-ish for the time being. If you do decide to make that trip to Lexington or Louisville, I could meet you.

Anime News Network was a bit late, but they finally posted their interview with Schemmel, Sabat and Cook prior to the LA premiere: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/intervi ... mel/.76925

Noteworthy is this:

ANN: So is the screening of Battle of Gods from the theatrical cut or the extended version that aired on Fuji TV earlier this year?

Justin: It's the theatrical run version.

ANN: Do you know what the potential availability of the extended version might be?

Justin: Keep an eye on Funimation.com!

It's pretty cool that we are eventually getting the extended version. I wonder if they will include both versions on the initial home release or pull a Lord of the Rings and release the theatrical version first and the extended later.
