Opinions on the English BT2 score

Post by 90sDBZ » Sat Jul 12, 2014 6:01 pm

Who else loves this score? I love it almost as much as Yamamoto's work from the Budokai series. It has some great tracks like Lost Courage, Mind Space, Go Ahead, Fly High, Little Light, Dark half and Sky is in our hands and several others. It was an all around awesome score. Too bad they dropped the ball in BT3.

Out of all the Tenkaichi games, BT2 definitely had the best music. I'm pretty sure no other composer holds up to Yamamoto's work, even the stolen pieces.

It was awful.
Every single track from the one during the opening, which was also used in-game, to the one that sounds like it was sampled for Ellie Gold's Burn.
It just didn't fit!
Admittedly I was more accustomed to the Yamamoto tracks in the Budokai games and thought it nice, but lazy that BT1 reused some of his Work for the budokai series, but having to listen to that crap was just annoying.
It didn't make me appreciate the game more, rather the opposite.

It's cool that you Guys like it, we can't all have the same tastes, but it really was an absolute awful soundtrack in my opinion.

One the best soundtrack I'm gaming IMHO. I dare say its on par with Kingdom Hearts soundtrack(My favorite soundtrack). It's so awesome. I even have the tracks on my phone, tablet, IPad, and computer

It's an okay soundtrack.

There's a few tracks in there that I think are great and very memorable, but a lot of it is kind of "filler music", that leaves no impression. I actually do like that some of the tracks went for more of an traditional "Asian"-inspired flavor. Very little of modern Dragon Ball music does that.
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

This is pretty much my opinion. To be honest, I had to re-listen to the soundtrack to remember some of the tracks.

It's not a terrible soundtrack, but it's one that didn't leave an impression like theoriginalbilis said. It's funny though, because I actually used to prefer BT2's soundtrack to BT3's, but after re-listening to both, I actually think BT3's is better and a little more refined. The BT2 soundtrack was definitely more original than other Dragon Ball games though, so I'll give it that.

It's one of my favourite soundtracks of Dragon Ball VGM but sadly there's never been a high quality version of it, even in RB2 it doesn't sound that much better since it's just a quick replacement score without improving the audio quality of the tracks.

The Tenkaichi 2 score was absolutely stunning with its variety and mix then there was Tenkaichi 1 which reused tracks from the Budokai series (really cool even though the game sucked) and finally Tenkaichi 3... bleh, worst soundtrack of Dragon Ball VGM. It was so bad that I muted the music and just played hearing sound effects and voices.

It's the only soundtrack that I would buy from a DBZ game.

The audio rips of the soundtrack sound awful.

I thought it had a nice unique variety of sounds to it surprisingly. It wasn't just all generic sqweaky rock riffs like we've been getting these days. BT2's soundtrack was pretty good for the themes all sounding different and well placed for different moods, the only problem was that it sounded cheap because it sounds like it was recorded in mono low quality. I'd propabaly appreciate it more if someone did some rock or orchestrated versions of the tunes.

If that's all you want, then all you want is fanservice, rather than an actual coherent story. And of course those aren't mutually exclusive; you could have a coherent story with "shine" moments! But if a story is perfectly coherent (and I'm really not seeing any compelling arguments that this one is anything but, despite constantly recurring, really poorly reasoned, attempts to argue otherwise), and you're bemoaning the lack of "shine" moments as a reason for the story's poor quality, then you're letting your thirst for "shine" moments obfuscate your ability to detect basic storytelling when it's right in front of you.

To me, it has the best soundtrack out of all the DBZ games. The best ones I like are Fly High, Mind Space, and Lost Courage(If you hated that song, then you's a lame lol)

As electronic music composer and fan, I really like this soundtrack a lot as standalone and If I was to pick this game, it will be because of the soundtrack really.
This track really gives me goosebumps! That melody, hands down, I would definitely play something like that in a club if it were 90's.

But in the end, I can't imagine DBZ game without Yamamoto ot Kikucho OST.

Better than Yamamoto's work in the Budokai trilogy. It's that damn good, nothing compares in my opinion. Shame we've entered a downward spiral in terms of soundtrack starting with BT3.

So many great tracks, it's one of my favourite video game soundtracks. My favourite songs are "Open Wings", "Awake", "Lost Courage", "Dark Half", "Little Light", "Battalion Unchained", "Capture the Dragon", "Crisis" and "Granulated Oblivion". I cannot find a bad track in this game. The songs fit so well with the fights and nothing pumps me up more than hearing "Awake" playing in the background as I select and customise my character before a mission. The soundtrack is one of the many great things about this game, it's my favourite DBZ game. :D

I remember it for the sole fact that Fly High, especially the intro, is one of the tracks that stand out to my ear to this day.

This, entirely. Going through Dark Prince's linked list, Dark Half, Lost Courage, Mind Space, Lonesome Wild, and Awake seem to be the five I associate with the game.

I still stand by what I said about BT2's OST. For me though, the highlights are:

1) Lost Courage
2) Awake
3) Mind Space
4) Let the Power Reign
5) Open Wings

Let the Power Reign and Open Wings sound the most like they fit Dragon Ball, and to me, the rest sound like they fit a Sonic game or something, but they're by no means bad.

Dark Half is great. I can't remember any of the rest, though.

For me, if I could remember five tracks, I'd say the OST was doing pretty damn well. 90% of video game OSTs I can barely remember one or two.

You could buy a new copy of Raging Blast 2 and you'd be getting better audio quality Tenkaichi 2 soundtrack but it wouldn't necessarily be that great to be honest, I was disappointed they didn't improve them (cleaning/remastering to sound better).
