More times than not in anime, it's because of union conflicts. Hence Spike Spiegel being voice by David Lucas and Steven Jay Blum, who by coincidence sound exactly alike *whistles*

I double checked movies 10, 12, Budokai 2, Budokai 3, and Tenkaichi just to be sure. Brina Palencia is only credited as Videl in Super DBZ, but I'll be sure to check movie 13 and Tenkaichi 2 myself.

I'm really impressed by her work though; Palencia nailed Videl's early DBZ voice flawlessly, I didn't even realize it wasn't the original voice.

I don't feel I deserved that comment.
I apologize if that came off as an insult, I just find it kind of odd you're so sure Cell was done by Clarke, despite not hearing his dub voice in Budokai Tenkaichi and such. I mean, why would it be so hard to find someone with a decently similar range? One example, Sabat got nearly a dead-on match for dub Korin after Mark Britten left (and though this has nothing to do with anything, Pioneer/Ocean Ginger from Dead Zone sounds almost exactly like Chuck Huber). So who knows? Maybe someone should just ask Chris Sabat himself, I know he has a MySpace.

Just a little repeat of possible range slipping I already brought up: "Notice Cell's cut-scene speaking after defeating him in "Original Mode"; the range kinda slips a bit, sounding a bit raspier than normal, and a tad more ... campy than normal, IMO."

Back on topic, I agree with some that Brina Palencia is a very good VA for Videl, coming off more as Kara Edwards portrayed her early on. Sure as hell better than if they'd cast Lucy Small as a stand-in (GT VA for her).

Well, here we go!
Previously, I wrote:I don't know what her (Kara Edward's) status is in Super DBZ, though one would assume that Timo's link concerning Brina Palencia is accurate. Depending on when they did the actual dubbing for the game, it could be that the schedule conflicted with her wedding this past April. She has a certain affection for Goten, or so she has said, so I can't imagine another reason other than not being able to that she would decide to pass it up.
Well, Kara answered me on the matter. . . . and holy freaking Mother of God, it turns out I was absolutely right. Here, she writes:

Hmmm...about the game...There was one game that recorded in April, that I wasn't able to be a part of because of my wedding. I'm not sure what the name of it was, so I'm guessing you are correct in saying it was that one. I also wasn't sure who replaced me, but I was told at the time that Videl had a very minor part...does that sound correct?

And there we have it. Kara also says that she has already recorded for Budokai Tenkaich 2, as well as been contacted about and since accepted another Goten role (though she doesn't know what the game is about) that she'll record for soon.

Hmm. I suppose the only question now is if we'll ever hear from Brina Palencia again.

Hmm, BT3 maybe? I can't think of any other role where she would have to do voice overs for Goten. The series and movies are finished.

Bandai-Namco is making a Dragon Ball Z game for PS3 and Xbox360. No word on a Wii version as of yet.

That's cool that you managed to get in touch with her Lemmy. For some reason I find voice actors are great about talking to fans. I was pleased to find Sonny Strait (as Krillin and Bardock in Dragonball) goes and chats it up on a fanclub message board.

Anywho, I'm glad that she is once again reprising her roles in Tenkaichi 2. I was very pleased with Briana's performance as Videl in Super DBZ but I still prefer Kara Edwards. I was also surprised that another voice actor did Cell but after hearing it again a couple of times I could distinguish Dameon Clarke's Cell from Dartanian Nickleback's rendition.

As for Tenkaichi (Sparking!) I'm still confused by who voiced Cell. According to the character illustrations it is Dameon Clarke but the actual credits list Chris Sabat as voicing Cell. I geuss Sabat could pull off all three of Cell's voices in the dub but it sounds so much like Dameon Clarke that it's hard to believe. That coupled with some of Tenkaichi's Funi dub VA references being flawed, I'm not so sure as to who voiced Cell. :?

Once again thanks Lemmy for answering my question! :D

Have you ever met her? Not to sound like I'm gushing or anything, but Kara is just lovely; a humble, down-to-earth Southern gal with the manners to match. She's always been wonderful about answering my questions, opening up about her experiences and helping where she can. So approachable.

Sonny Strait frequents message boards? Get out! Well, I guess it's not all that surprising, but I can still remember a time when the VAs were all but forbidden to interact with fans on any sort of casual basis outside of a FUNimation-approved publicity event. Now half of them have MySpace accounts . . . crazy world, this is.

For the Japanese version there's Masako Nozawa, and for the English there's Kara Edwards. With Super DBZ's Videl it's hard to tell Kara's absent, but f I ever hear another chibi Goten I will be able to tell and I will be taking hostages.

As for Cell, this whole thing about several different VAs is a big surprise to me. I always thought it was Dameon Clarke coming back to do Cell every single time in every game. If he hasn't, then that's a shame because I've always enjoyed his rendition of Cell. Let's hope he returns for Budokai Tenkaichi 2.

I doubt I have met anyone even resembling a celeberity let alone someone who is like Kara Edwards. Oh and you do sound like you are starstruck.

This message board in fact: http://www.celestial-star.com/sonny/ . I was a member but for some reason a lot of threads where deleted along with my membership... :x Still I managed to chat with the guy and he is also good with fans. Also he lives up to his reputation for being an oddball... And of course he has a Myspace account. It seems like everyone is getting a Myspace.... I could never open a blog cause I rarely do anything fantastic and I leave it un-updated for months at a time....that and I stereotype it as being a waste of time (not that I already to that). I wonder how much of the cast has hopped on the Myspace bandwagon :?:

All right, I've edited the list. See above.

Unfortunately, this thread has derailed WAY off-topic by now. Partly my own fault, I admit! . . . but the topic's original query has been answered, so I guess that's it. (Somehow having any thread degenerate into a discussion about things like MySpace and getting in touch with FUNimation VAs strikes me as the last thing VegettoEX would ever want.)

If anyone has any further questions about Kara Edwards, PM me and I'll be happy to send them along. She's been nice about staying in touch with me. Or hell, just visit her MySpace. She's usually pretty quick to answer.

EX, you wanna go ahead and close this one up?
