Re: VIZ 3-in-1 Editions Coming Summer 2013
It really irritates me how this series has been released a few times now by Viz, and when I finally get around to collecting all of the manga, they release these things about 3 months apart from each other. Since it looks like the running these all the way from Dragon Ball to Z, it's going to take an awful long time to collect these. The March release is when they first get to Namek. March!?
I kinda think I shoulda just got the Viz Bigs, but I really wanted to have these new ones from start to finish. As silly as it sounds, they woulda looked nice on the bookshelf. XD

I'm 100% in your corner. These feel like they're taking forever (it's not like we've seen or read the story beforeMoltenMan wrote:It really irritates me how this series has been released a few times now by Viz, and when I finally get around to collecting all of the manga, they release these things about 3 months apart from each other. There are some really cheap bigviz lots you could always sell later. I got Vol. 4 and 5 (Keeping vol 5 cause its my favorite part/color chapters are cool lol) of the Dragon Ball Bigvizs before they came/come out. I read them and then re-read the story when the 3-in-1s come out.
I also went to the library and rented Z volumes 1-15 (it's a good free temporary option

Re: VIZ 3-in-1 Editions Coming Summer 2013
Yeah, I'm just gonna eBay off the volumes I've bought so far and buy the Viz Big's. These are just going to come out WAY too slow, and if they're already available in better quality with the Viz Big's, not really much reason to be waiting around for these.
I did take advantage of Barnes and Noble's 'buy 2-get-1 free' deal and ordered the first two volumes of Dragon Ball and the first volume of DBZ. Went ahead and got the first volume of DBZ since it seems to go out of print at other sites like Amazon.
I just want the whole manga collection to collect and read, and as of now, seems to the best way to do it.

Re: VIZ 3-in-1 Editions Coming Summer 2013
I'd say the VizBigs, the Full Color books, or even the "SJ Graphic Novel" versions are a better quality product to own, even with the edits. They're still solid printings of the original material. The 3-in-1's are okay for a quick read (and they are mostly uncut), but the paper and binding aren't really meant to hold up to wear and tear from re-reading and the ravages of time. Plus the print quality dulls the linework and inking and makes everything look really splotchy.MoltenMan wrote:Yeah, I'm just gonna eBay off the volumes I've bought so far and buy the Viz Big's. Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.
Re: VIZ 3-in-1 Editions Coming Summer 2013
Yeah, the few volumes I did have of the newer ones, the pages that were supposed to be colored look TERRIBLE. In my head, it sounded nice to have a full run of the entire series in the same format and design, but really, waiting MONTHS for each release is really silly when it's already been released a few times already. When I stopped by B&N before work today I just skimmed through a couple Viz Bigs and I was like "Yep, I'm gonna switch over to these...". They're just so much nicer.
It won't take long to get all the Viz Bigs, then for collectors sake I'm gonna buy the color versions of Z. Those are too sweet to pass up.

Woo-hoo! Thanks for the inadvertent heads up! I just ordered all three Full Color Saiyan Arc volumes with free shipping for $34! I had been avoiding picking these up because of Viz's (admittedly minimal) censorship to teach them a lesson or whatever, but I was able to skim through one of them in a store the other day and the quality is just too good to pass up. But believe you me, Viz will be receiving a strongly worded e-mail against their use of censorship from yours truly! That'll show 'em!MoltenMan wrote:I did take advantage of Barnes and Noble's 'buy 2-get-1 free' deal and ordered the first two volumes of Dragon Ball and the first volume of DBZ.

I don't get it. Am I missing something with these? I'm sorry if I'm a little slow on the up-take, but...why would anyone bet these over the VizBigs? The issue I found with the VizBigs is that they were too bulky. That's really the only reason that a regular version of the manga would be best. However, this is just as bulky as the VizBigs, except the pages are probably not as great quality. Plus the price is virtually the same, so...why? Unless it's just a 3-pack (like you can separate the 3 different volumes), then it's awesome.

Re: VIZ 3-in-1 Editions Coming Summer 2013
For me, they are a bit cheaper. Plus they are keeping it all under the Dragon Ball name. While the color pages are nice, not all the color pages are included, which kinda stink. But basically for me they are a few bucks cheaperTheGreatness25 wrote:I don't get it. Am I missing something with these? I liked them because they were going to be under the same "Dragon Ball" name and would've looked nice on the ol' book shelf. After buying a couple, the quality and absurd release times have made me change my mind and I've been in the process of getting the VizBigs.

The paper quality is mediocre, for one, you can see through one page to another and there are reports of pages having ink drops on them. Where was that QC when you need them..TheGreatness25 wrote:I don't get it. Am I missing something with these? That would be mine haha. I would like to report that every Vol. 1 and 2 I have checked so far at books stored do not have the ink splatters. I'm keepin mine but may replace it for a reading copy..though I am not sure.dbboxkaifan wrote:

Re: VIZ 3-in-1 Editions Coming Summer 2013
I was at a store which had these Dragon Ball mangas for sale and I liked it but unfortunately the "see-through" bugged me as I find that distracting, as well as it's small (would've preferred something to the likes of Full Colour) and lastly, censored.
But considering the price (£6.99) it's not a bad deal. Oh welp, I'll try to hunt down the "13 and up" Dragon Ball mangas.

Re: VIZ 3-in-1 Editions Coming Summer 2013
In all honesty, I support the Dragon Ball 3 in 1s (and other 3 in 1s such as One Piece and Fullmetal Alchemist) simply because of their low price point and the fact the VizBIGs aren't readily available in most bookshops. Of course the Full Colors are of superior quality, but the 3 in 1s have value for money no other release has.dbboxkaifan wrote:I was at a store which had these Dragon Ball mangas for sale and I liked it but unfortunately the "see-through" bugged me as I find that distracting, as well as it's small (would've preferred something to the likes of Full Colour) and lastly, censored.

Speaking of which, what is the release schedule (and also sales figures, if any) for the English Full Colors?

Having both out would be confusing because having the kazenbans and these 3-in-1s would really make things confusing. Yeah they fucked up big-time since now either no Kanzeban or a different cover Kanezeban which sucks because the Kanzeban covers are awesome and there's some we'd never see releaseeledoremassis02 wrote:If anything it delays a Kanzenban release because having that and these 3-in-1s would really make things confusing. I really dont know why they chose these covers unless thats all they had?? I dont know lol.
Guess they thought the Viz Bigs are good enough (not that they are a bad release)?
Can't wait for the next 3-in-1 to get released. I rented up to Vol. 16 at the library but I wanna read it again lol.
