If you check the other languages you'll find out that it wasn't translated at all. And that's because it wasn't made translatable (is that actually a word?) - every DBM page is prepared in such a way that a translator can either input the text via a web-based system (and someone will generate the page with the proper fonts for him) or download a .psd file and do everything manually. Most of the sound effects are simply text layers with special fonts. But this "KRUNK" is an integral part of the page:Fionordequester wrote:that stupid "KRUNK" sound effect (seriously, was that supposed to be "Crunch" instead, but suffered translation shenanagins?)

That's sad then. http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=krunk.
I remember old people..but not to old(40's- Early 60's) saying the word. Fits the Urban Dictionary.

Crunk, a portmanteau of "crazy drunk", deriving from the alcoholic drink. Sometimes spelled Krunk.

Huh...sounds like Salagir might want some to check them over before he writes them then, if that's not too much work. Either that, or get some sort of colorist or program or whatever to modify the sound effects to whatever would sound better in whatever language. Because while I am sympathetic to how hard it must be to write something that sounds good to EVERYONE on the globe...(in fact, I'm frankly amazed that he puts in the effort needed to even translate his work AT ALL!)...some of the resulting sound effects still sound really silly.

Salagir only provides the first French-English translation of each page - and later it gets corrected by others. The problem is that people are floating away form this task - because being an unpaid proof-reader isn't fun and because DBM really has quite a pace for something unofficial. Salagir has stated several times that he'd be happy to accept help - especially of the proof-reading variety.Fionordequester wrote:Huh...sounds like Salagir might want some to check them over before he writes them then, if that's not too much work.
You didn't read my explanation carefully, did you? "Most of the sound effects are simply text layers with special fonts." So it's possible to modify them. This one was an exception, not a rule. Let's take page 570 (because it has many sound effects) as an example: the English version has 3 sound effects - all in the latin alphabet:Fionordequester wrote:Either that, or get some sort of colorist or program or whatever to modify the sound effects to whatever would sound better in whatever language.

It isn't Salagir who translates DBM into all those languages but a team of volunteers. And - as per my explanation above - it isn't that time-consuming.Fionordequester wrote:in fact, I'm frankly amazed that he puts in the effort needed to even translate his work AT ALL!

I'm not surprised the Korean translators didn't replace them. Lots of Manwha uses the Latin alphabet for sound effects. I'm guessing it makes the attack/effect seem more impactful.

Really now? Hmm...think he'd accept my help? I at the very least know my way around GIMP, so if I took a look at the work that would be required (basically, whether it's beyond my skill level or not), I might be able to help! How about it?Tzigi wrote:Huh...sounds like Salagir might want some to check them over before he writes them then, if that's not too much work.

Anyways though, my point still stands, doesn't it? Whether this one happened to be an exception or not, the thing is, it still would've benefited from something like a colorist or what-have-you, and because it didn't have that, we got the silly sound effect...
You really don't think I'm trying to bash on this comic, do you? I know it's easy to get that impression based on some of the other users who seem to do that, but that's not my motivation. I'm just pointing out something that's wrong, that's all. Sorry if I made you think differently
Actually, I didn't quite mean what I said that literally. I mean, obviously Salagir isn't any kind of multi-lingual prodigy or anything, and obviously other people are doing the translating...but the fact of the matter is, Salagir is still updating his site to reflect those translations, creating seperate pages for them and everything, which suggests to me that there's some sort of systematic way that he's invented to maintain that. And, since coming up with the scenario, and hiring artists and all of that probably takes up time, it's amazing to me that someone would take the additional challenge of programming (or getting someone to program, either way takes effort) other pages for his website just to accommodate those translations...Tzigi wrote:It isn't Salagir who translates DBM into all those languages but a team of volunteers. Basically, Salagir either has a ton of free time, or he is one hard working son-of-a-gun (considering that all of this is for something he isn't even getting paid for). And I say that as someone who's also something of an entertainer, and yet, doesn't update his projects nearly as frequently.

This is so true XP. It seems like every other comment on here is a complaint. Well not that often but more often than the comment section on the site. I don't know if I would consider it "constructive criticism" since they rarely offer any suggestions on how to improve what they don't like. I figure if you hate the story so much you would save yourself the agony and spend your time reading something you do enjoy. I'm not a fan of New Age or EX but I'm not going to complain every new page on their thread here. I don't like the direction of the story so one or two complaints should get the message across without having to say it every new page and annoy the fans who do enjoy reading it.FoolsGil wrote:Well one thing that's a constant here
A) Whether main story or special, someone will complain.
B) If It's a horrid artist, someone will whine.
C) It's on a universe that isn't interesting, someone will riot
I thought people like the Gast Universe, and there is a great artist, and what do you know, more complaining, if not for the one page that gave minor exposition, than for the artist. You call him bad? I suppose all you dissenters would enjoy the return of PoF, or Chibi Dam Z, or even Berrizo. Yes this guy is SO much worst than Berrizo.

James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

That's an interesting take on Vegeta. He looks a bit like Wolverine when he's on the ground. When he's floating in mid-air with his arms crossed, he also resembles The Wolverine poster. If you forget the lack of claws and slight differences in hair, of course.
