I got my order in on the first of July, yeah. But I ordered more than just the Slump set, and the two other items they've yet to ship as well are both 'On Order From Manufacturer', and I'd imagine they'd like to ship it with those two items to save on shipping cost. With any luck if it takes too long to get those other items in though, they'll just go ahead and send out the Slump movies.

I will probably wait for my order until at least next week, i had to order it from Robert Anime Store, because i ordered it along with Oreimo Season 2, and RightStuf didn`t want to send Oreimo, because of licence  Had to play over 60$ for shipping

All United Publications UK orders should be dispatched on Wednesday so I'll be getting it later this week thankfully.
Stock due into UK warehouse today or Tuesday, and we expect to have all orders posted by Wednesday.
So you should have your order before 9th.

Anyone have a wild guess of how many copies Discotek needs to sell to break even? I hope they didn't have to pay too much to license a collection of mostly short movies released in the early 1980's.

I'm no expert, but I can't imagine the licensing fee for Slump, at least not the movies, could be too awfully cheap, given how much of a non-entity it is outside of Japan sadly.

It's popular in France, Spain, Germany, China, Hong Kong, and many other countries. It's just that it has little presence in English-speaking countries.

Ahh, my bad then - I didn't know that. I thought Dr. Slump had only really ever found big success in it's home country. ^_^;

Got mine in the mail today and watched Movie 1! So fun, but I've seen it before a couple times via fansubs. Nice to get to see it with such good translation though 8) REALLY looking forward to 2-5, which I'm pretty sure I haven't seen.

One thing that I never noticed before, but I'm assuming is not unique to this set, is that the opening and ending credits animation is cropped. I assume because these sequences were created for TV format, and then they had to crop them in order to fit them into the widescreen movie format. Just funny, given Dragon Ball's history of DVD releases over here, at first I was like "Ohnonono....!!"

As long as the films were originally made for widescreen and no 4:3 versions exist, I'm fine with a little cropping when it comes to the opening and ending. It makes sense to stay consistent.

IIRC, the Japanese VHS release was in 4:3.

I believe this set uses the remastered footage from Slump the Box Movies, which was 16:9, so no 4:3 version of this particular remaster would exist.

So I guess I don't know the full history of these movies. Were they all theatrically released? Are some of them OVAs? I guess I assumed that some of the shorter ones were like the shorter DBZ movies, and they were shown at these "Animation Road Shows" and events where multiple Jump properties were given films. At these events are the movies in 16:9 or 4:3?

Mine just came in! I was checking the contents and found out that the Hokuto no Ken parody scene in movie 5 was animated by Masami Suda, the character designer of Hokuto no Ken.

Just watched movie 2 and I loved it!

Dragon Ball seiyuu in Lupin III you say? Well, I was shocked to hear Yasuo Yamada's voice coming out of Mashirito in Movie 2! Looked it up, and I guess he didn't stick around for the TV series, but it was kinda surreal hearing a voice I so solidly associate with Lupin in another movie.

It's probably The Fuma Conspiracy then. It was made on the cheap, so the usual cast was replaced with other people; Lupin ended up being played by Toshio Furukawa (Blue, Piccolo), and Fujiko by Mami Koyama (Arale, Lunch).

Apparently, Furukawa got a lot of hate mail over it.

It arrived today here's photos and info:

DVD Sizes

Disc #1 - 4.33 GB
Disc #2 - 4.33 GB

Packaging
Screenshots
I do have to say that the packaging feels cheap and tacky but swapping to an Amaray box fixes the problem. No slipcover (we already knew though) and no reversible cover but I'm glad that Dr. Slump is actually being released in English!

Edit: Despite that the box says "R1" it works on R2 DVD players too, I tried it on my 360 and it worked! :D

Oh man, that's one of the things I'm most looking forward to hearing when I get this set in, yeah. A chance to hear Yamada in a completely different role is going to be interesting, though I kind of fear that I'm going to associate him so much with Lupin that it'll be hard to take him as anyone else. I already kind of have this problem with Tanaka whenever I try to watch One Piece subbed...my brain just clicks into Kuririn.

I do think it's a crying shame that Goro Naya never got another bigger DB role after his minor one in the first movie though.

It wouldn't surprise me if that was the one, yeah, considering I remember it also had Banjou Ginga for Jigen (I forget who he was in Dragon Ball, but I recognize the name), and an original old man in the film/OVA/whatever was voiced by Kohei Miyauchi (who I've heard in another Lupin TV special elsewhere). There was a fair few where I've heard Shigeru Chiba too.

Anyway, on topic...my set still continues to elude me. RS did give me an e-mail update about how they're trying though, so it's not like they've forgotten about me or anything.

Without getting into spoilers, it was actually Mashirito fawning over a female character that tipped me off. He has some similar ticks to his Lupin performance, but he's a little less...bouncy? I guess that's the best way to describe it? No "ararara~"s :P

Hearing my favorite voice actors (almost always rooted in Dragon Ball) is one of my favorite things in anime! I mostly have to rely on fansubbed older series for this, but it always delights me to hear Nozawa in other starring roles like Gegege no Kitaro, Dororon Enma-kun, or Tsurikichi Sanpei. I just love her voice so much, I can't get enough of it! Tanaka also starred in a series called Giant Gorg, which I liked a lot, but hearing the voice of Kuririn/Luffy was definitely one of the things that hooked me in. But I guess this is veering even more off topic...........

That's a really cool tidbit, Kei, about the HnK character designer. Looking forward to seeing that scene!
