Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods
I met up with OmegaRockman at a showing in Savannah and had a fun time.
I was really impressed with the dub! Schemmel and Sabat (the two voices I associate with English DBZ) did a fantastic job, and everyone else did a fine job as well. Schemmel, especially, seemed to up the ante of his portrayal of Goku IMO. I actually heard the Goku from the manga (and a little bit of Nozawa) in a lot of his line delivery, and that made me very happy.
From what I could tell, the dialogue was very faithful to the original with some added jokes here and there. I found several of the jokes and interactions rather funny, especially Goku's introduction to Beerus. Hats off to FUNimation for doing a respectable job on the dub, and working to get this into theaters: it's made my anticipation for the eventual (Director's Cut) Blu-Ray even stronger.

Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

I honestly thought the theater would be one of the smaller ones and have 10 people all spread out. I was very wrong, the place was packed. I hope this becomes a thing with all future releases and it comes to a theater that's more convenient than the one I had to go to. I loved it. I enjoyed the movie immensely, as well as the experience of watching it with over 100 DBZ fans.
The biggest truths aren't original. The truth is ketchup. It's Jim Belushi. Its job isn't to blow our minds. It's to be within reach.

I saw the movie with five friends and the theater was half full. I was surprise to see so many people, but the viewing was a total blast. Everyone was laughing for enjoy in the movie and I'm glad that I went to the showing at the AMC theater next to the Columbia Mall. I hear the showing at Arundel Mills was completely pack and sold out.

The Owings Mill one was pretty packed too. Even more pack than Guardian of the Galaxy.Hellspawn28 wrote:I saw the movie with five friends and the theater was half full. The two guys next to my friends were like "Be glad it's not Arundel Mills. Both showings are sold out". Besides Arundel Mills has some of the worst parking space ever in my opinion. I thought most people won't show up, but they didn't. Funi did a good job on marketing the movie
, it got both the hardcore fans and the causal fans who grew up with the series to go see the movie .

Just got tickets for me and dad tomorrow. He's very reluctant, but my birthday was a few days ago, so I get a free pass I suppose.
Really excited to finally see this. I was worried I'd miss my window, but things have worked out.

So, just got back from an absolutely packed theater with Lanipator.
Wow, that was fantastic. I've seen the movie several times, but nothing beats watching it on the big screen! The dub was also pretty fantastic; a few added jokes, but only in comedic moments. I especially love how they handle Son talking to Beerus and Vegeta desperately trying to keep him calm. Also, Laura Bailey's Trunks is at an all time high, along with Kara Edward's as Goten. I absolutely did not recognize her as Videl, either, and I'm actually okay with that; the voice she's using now is age appropriate her acting is spot on.
Meredith McCoy only has one line, and it's well enough acted, so nothing to say there. I'll be lying if I said it wasn't nice having back Bradford Jackson as Oolong; his comedic timing in this one is spot on.
Sean does a bang up job as well, and I frankly disagree with any of this business about his acting. It's a LITTLE stiff here or there, but besides that, he sells every scene. His attack foley has only gotten better as time has gone on. Meanwhile, Sabat is bringing his Kai level of performance to put Piccolo and Vegeta and, frankly, it's wonderful. While the voice will always sound a tad forced to me, his acting makes up for it by a lot.
... also I love Monica Rial as Bulma. I am so very, very glad they kept her.
As for Beerus and Whis: Basically perfect. I'd say Beerus' sillier tendencies are a tad more well portrayed in the Japanese version, but Douglas has the more intense angle on him down to a T.
Overall, much enjoyed the whole production! Looking forward to it on Blu Ray.

To those who've seen the dub, how'd the "Gokû attempts to speak politely" dialogue play out? I'm curious about how they ended up phrasing it. :3

It was fantastic. Perfectly done for the english version. I can't remember how the "desu" line was replaced, but I know it worked perfectly.Chuquita wrote:To those who've seen the dub, how'd the "Gokû attempts to speak politely" dialogue play out? I'm curious about how they ended up phrasing it. :3

Wait, 18 only has one line this? Does she speak more in the extended edition?

Everyone seems to mention this. I'm so glad they took out that gravely element to their voices. It works so well now!KaiserNeko wrote:... Also, Laura Bailey's Trunks is at an all time high, along with Kara Edward's as Goten...

I think the only two lines she has in the extended version is telling Whis what ice cream is...Valerius Dover wrote:Wait, 18 only has one line this? Does she speak more in the extended edition?

Gokû's uneasy attempt with that "desu" hit the target for me so much; it's great to know the dub/translation did well with it.
I look forward to that dvd release.

They brought her back for three lines.....and that's being generous and assuming they have the extended edition. (Justin Cook did hint towards that recently, and Sean Schemmel let it slip earlier).
Well, at least she's around......*searches for 17*

He talks a bit stilted, overly polite, overuses "sir". The "desu" is actually "sir!" It works well.Chuquita wrote:*Is very happy to hear this*. X3ShadowDude112 wrote:It was fantastic. Even though I thoroughly enjoyed my trip to see Guardians of the Galaxy today, I am beyond jealous of every single one of you that went to see this tonight. I hate you all! *sobs dramatically*
No, kidding aside, keep the love and tidbits coming. My hype only grows stronger by the minute, and will do so until I can order a freakin' home release for it...!

I couldn't make it to the theaters I was at and they're not showing it anymore, so I guess I'm waiting for the home release. And all these tidbits make me sad I missed it. ._.
