I haven't really cried about Dragon Ball. I teared up a little bit when Grandpa Gohan met Goku once again. For me to cry usually it has to be something meant to be sad which Dragon Ball really isn't and has to be close to my heart which it is. Dragon Ball is a lot more fighting based and has some comedy moments but whenever it gets sad it doesn't have much meaning  . Vegeta was revived by the Dragon Balls so it wasn't really sad and everything else is mainly GT which isn't exactly canon so there is still a chance that it might not have happened. Also Piccolo was still in Hell and he wanted to be dead which is the same with Goku in Z. The only other moment is Bardock :eh:

I've only teared up or rather, my eyes got watery, when Goku was reunited with Grandpa Gohan and when Goku reunited with his family after the 7 years. I haven't watched GT or the Trunks special yet tho.
Canon is Jaco, Dragon Ball except for EoZ, Dragon Ball Super anime and manga (both are separate canons)

I never flat out cried, but teared up in these scenes:
Goku meets Gohan (Grandpa)
Raditz dies
Goku's noble sacrifice
Goten meets Goku, Goten says goodbye to Goku.

Please tell me you're not actually trying to imply that animated media can't be at all emotionally engaging or poignant. Don't be so stupid.

It can have as much emotion in it as it wants, it's still just a cartoon and I certainly wouldn't cry over a make belief cartoon. I'd cry if a real life family member died, not an animated green slug alien.

You keep using the term 'make believe', so I have to ask...does this not mean that you wouldn't cry over a live-action film if it were sad either? Because I refuse to believe there's a person alive who doesn't at least get a little misty over stuff like Old Yeller.

I'll chime in too that my eyes got a little misty after GT's ending, but I think it had to do more with the sense of Dragon Ball, as a whole, being "over" than the actual montage of scenes. A similar thing happened when I saw the GT special. I know it actually aired somewhere in the middle of GT's run, but I saw it after completing GT.

So just because it's an animated show or a film it means a person can't have an emotional breakdown? Maybe you feel that way and that's fine but to disregard it just because it's animation it's pretty stupid.

Your tone is pretty patronizing. Everyone has their own way of responding to things. Crying isn't necessarily something someone does because they're sad. Some people cry from strong positive emotions. Like when they see something beautiful. I've teared up listening to music I really enjoy. I also teared up a bit during the final battle in DBZ when everyone throws their hands in the air to contribute to the Genki Dama. I just thought it was really moving and maybe the most positive moment in the entire series. It was a great release of tension from both an extremely long battle and from Vegeta's bad attempts at getting the Earthlings to help.

People in the name of their (imaginative) god cry, murder and do inhumane actions as well as have disturbing behaviours so why should it be any different to an animated series (or live action, pick whichever you prefer)? At least in this case the viewers only share the same pain as the characters in the show/film.
Please don't bring beliefs into my thread. That's uncalled for and had nothing to do with the thread and just comes off as a cheap shot. So I'll prefer if you remove it from your post. The rest I agree with though. Animation isn't that far from life itself.

Likewise. A couple years ago a friend passed away which she'd often listen to a song (by Barry White) and hearing it too led me into tears though now if I listen to it, I feel her loss of not being around though the crying is past.

Bullza was being very disrespectful towards animation by saying it couldn't make a person feel emotional or even to the point of crying/tearing, also a while ago he acted quite shameless and posted this awful troll-bait comment on the topic of Koji Yada's RIP and I quote "Never heard of him". *smh* :|

I'll get the god thing off as requested.

Disrespectful  . I'm sorry if I'm not an emotional sissy but no I'm not about to cry over a fictional animated piece of entertainment for kids just because a green alien or a midget with no nose dies. This goes doubly so for Dragon Ball Z where you know they'll just be brought back to life later on.

And no I do not know who Koji Yada is being that he only even voiced Dr Gero a character that appeared in the show for like what, maybe ten episodes?

I'm not an emotional person either, but I still don't think words like "sissy" should be thrown around.
Also, if you haven't heard of someone, it doesn't hurt to do a split-second search.

I don't want this topic closed. So please resent yourself from using insults like sissy. Was that needed. From a plot POV you didn't know Krillin would come back. The first time She long was killed. The second time Krillin died twice and couldt be brought back. I don't see what's wrong with having a connection with the characters of any animated show.

You didn't answer my question, Bullza. Why would it be any more "wimpy" for someone to cry or be touched by something fictional just because it's animated. Are we not meant to be emotionally connected with live action fiction either?

Also...

Uh huh, uh huh. Right. Let me just check something here, where was that again, oh yeah...
Bullza wrote:I'm sure he was just added to appeal to kids under the age of 10 though. Hopefully they don't pull that nonsense with the next movie.
So...you...acknowledge that Dragon Ball is for kids in the sense that you can't be touched by it, but then are annoyed when something else for kids is put into one of the movies. I...I'm sorry, I'm having trouble comprehending just exactly what it is you do get out of Dragon Ball if anything other than 'lolz cool fights bro'.

Ow! I think Bullza's edginess in this thread gave me a paper cut.

Anyway the scene in the OP is a pretty touching scene. But the scene that got me closest to tears was when Trunks finds Gohan's dead body in the Trunks special.
