I think that's how it was in the Japanese too. At least, I don't remember them explicitly stating his name anyway.

A lot of people in the theater were muttering and exchanging confused glances when Bulma mentioned Vegeta's brother.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

I noticed this today in the theater and it was mainly the fans letting their friends become aware of tarble, i heard someone whisper to his friend "i'll show you the special online" said near my seat, i didn't mind because everyone for the most part really respected the content and shared a love for dragonball.

I was glad to finally get to see the movie. It was a lot of fun and worth the watch. Even my dad got some laughs out of it, though he found it "quirky" at times.

The dub was really good, I'm glad they continued the trend of quality dubbing from Kai into the movie. I hope they get to dub some of the other stuff they missed, maybe package it with the movie.

Really can't wait for the next movie now, it was a fun experience.

I always wondered if FUNi kinda did what Toei did, as in having some "Guest voices" do those parts. Did anyone notice if the other "cameos" had recognizable voices?

I also went and saw it with a few friends. One was into as a kid, but has seen Dragon Ball also ( I think). Another saw bits when he was young, but is currently watching through it with me, the third never really watched it much at all, and knew next to nothing going in, and the last was just a casual fan. They all came out enjoying it, even the one who knew next to nothing about the show.

Ok, forgive me if I'm a bit behind, but what's the deal with this policewoman cameo I keep hearing about?

@Big Momma, unfortunately that comes with guys thinking lower ratings are only for kids and such, as movies do what tvtropes calls, "Avoid the dreaded G rating" and often kids' movies add gratuitous cursing to do so. Didn't catch all the voice credits, so don't know if they did anymore. Was surprised by her as usually she just does LA shows.

She was voiced by this woman who is very well liked and usually does and directs anime series done in LA. And is married to Cosmo from "Fairly Oddparents". (Don't know if that comes on in your country, but it's known stateside).

I think I know who you mean. I grew up in the US, and even though I never really watched the show, It was on a few times and was just one of those things everyone knows about. So, from what I understand, the Japanese version has a celebrity here? They made a shot somewhere specifically for a cameo role and the dub is sort of duplicating that?

The conversation goes as such:
Mr. Satan: "Hey! What's he doing?"
Piccolo: "Need I remind you that you're speaking to the Guardian of the Earth?"
Mr. Satan: "Guardian of the Earth? Oh, right, yeah, I guess I kinda blocked that out..."

Yea, I know, I saw it. I thought him saying that he blocked it out was a nice cover up.

I kinda heard that too in my theater. Seems FUNi should try and find out how to get that 2008 special soon.

So I just saw this for a second time and I posted my thoughts in the theater experience thread, but I want to post them here as well!

Round 2 of Battle of Gods was just as good as the first! The theater I went to this time added an extra show! Same time in a different theater. Both sold out. I saw it with my cousin who isn't into DBZ, but said he'd watch it with me. He enjoyed the hell out of it. Even said he was gonna get it on Blu-ray when it comes out. The crowd was great, the sound was better than the first time. It was loud, but not too loud, enough to enjoy it. It was definitely stereo sound and not the center channel that I had the first time. Can't wait for round 3 on Saturday.

Goku the krump dancer reminded me in the other thread...the hypnotized, withdrawn way Goten kept saying "Awesome!" after Trunks kept bragging about Mai being his girlfriend was hilarious. He sounded so damn naive.

No, he said he'd had it restored recently, to the same size it was after Beers had blown most of it up. So it was clearly a Cell-reference. Also, that line was only in the extended cut. The theatrical release only says that the planet is so small because of Beers.

Just saw the film for the first time last night. Loved it.

Fortunately I had seen the Jump special from 2008 once a while ago, so I remembered Tarble, but I didn't realize that was canon?

I just need to bring up this review: http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/08/06/ ... s-review-2
I'm usually behind IGN's game reviews, but I feel that this person really shouldn't have been the one to review this film, as she seems more like a "DEE BEE ZEEEE FIGHTS ERRMAGHERD" type, and it's disheartening to read. I kind of feel like she has no idea what she is talking about? Her misuse of the term "filler" really got under my skin, especially considering that the material she is referring to was why I enjoyed the film so much in the first place. She was only concerned about seeing fights and doesn't seem at all familiar with anything that happened before the Saiyan Saga. Being in the United States, I guess it's not that uncommon to run into a person such as this, but it really makes me sad, especially considering that she is in a position to be writing reviews for something that she so clearly misunderstands.

Maybe I'm just butthurt, I mean she did enjoy it overall...

If Kaio can recreate the planet after Beerus blew it up, then he should be able to do the same after Cell blew it up.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

I feel like I've read it around here before but how did they handle the '-desu' section when Goku is introducing himself to Beerus. They just went with 'sir' as most people predicted?

Well, according to those Toriyama Q&A, Beerus didn't totally destroy Kaio's planet, but left a small portion which Kaio used to make himself a smaller planet.

Well I went back and read the viz.

Doesn't seem like there's anything to suggest Cell blew up kaio's planet.

Was it a Japanese line or something?
