Series Recap in Extended BoG
Which scenes were recapped? I'm not looking for stuff like Goku vs Freeza but more specific things like what were they doing e.g. Goku and Freeza were punching each other and then Goku shot a Kamehameha.
Canon is Jaco, Dragon Ball except for EoZ, Dragon Ball Super anime and manga (both are separate canons)

I'm going to be that guy, but I'm glad they are not reanimating Dragon ball. Just look:
While the animation is flashy, it doesn't compare to the detail put into each frame from the old days.
Though to be fair, in motion, it looks nice I guess. Still, nothing compares to the old gritty look.
Spoiler:
Spoiler:
My favourite art style (and animation) outside Toriyama who worked on Dragon Ball: Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, Masaki Satō, Minoru Maeda, Takeo Ide, Hisashi Eguchi, Katsumi Aoshima, Tomekichi Takeuchi, Masahiro Shimanuki, Kazuya Hisada
Re: Series Recap in Extended BoG
It doesn't look nice at all. It's weak key animators drawing on the quick. It has nothing to do with the digital coloring, either, it's the lack of skill of the key animators selected to handle those cuts.

I can sort of see what you guys are saying, but it's a little nitpicky to be honest. Granted, my standards are pretty low after having sat through a bunch of DIC cartoons where character's faces are missing.

Kaioken looks terrible. Don't know what they were trying to do with those colors.

Crap out a cheap, rushed addition to a cheap, rushed film for a television broadcast.DarkPrince_92 wrote:Kaioken looks terrible. Don't know what they were trying to do with those colors.

I don't think these scenes were created just for the TV version, though. I was always under the assumption they were originally in the film but somewhere along the lines got cut out.JulieYBM wrote:Crap out a cheap, rushed addition to a cheap, rushed film for a television broadcast.DarkPrince_92 wrote:Kaioken looks terrible. I doubt the scenes would have been cut after Toei Animation had gone through the trouble of having them fully completed. We know from Videl having her new dialogue performed by Kakinuma Shino that these new scenes were created and voiced recently.Masahiro Hosoda, Battle of Gods Official Movie Guide wrote:"Only, in the end, we expanded the scenario too much, and at the storyboarding phase, we had already gone very much over [the intended length], so as a result, we cut down quite a bit. (laughs)"
Re: Series Recap in Extended BoG
My theory is they were supposed to be in the theatrical version, but they couldn't finish them in time for March so they figured they could add it to the TV broadcast because they'd have it done by then and call it a Director's Cut.
It really makes me hope they make good use of those extra two months for DB15.

Wait, did Videl have two different voice actors in the same movie?

In the Fuji TV cut of the movie Videl has new lines of dialogue. Minaguchi Yuuko was living in the United State of America attending college and learning English at the time of the extended cut's creation.Valerius Dover wrote:Wait, did Videl have two different voice actors in the same movie?

Awesome! I had never seen the extended editions scenes before. I assume Goku was reminiscing on his past adventures or something of the likes? It seems like the Red Ribbon Army is missing here..Tanooki Kuribo wrote:I have a Flickr album of screen shots, if it helps ~ https://www.flickr.com/photos/65846913@ ... 763946525/xmysticgohanx wrote:Which scenes were recapped? Those extra scenes look great though. I hope FUNimation gets the rights to the extended edition for the home release. I'd be pretty disappointed if they don't add these new scenes in.

No. It's a traditional recap from the narrator about the events in Goku's life prior to the film.Daimakku wrote:Awesome! I had never seen the extended editions scenes before. I assume Goku was reminiscing on his past adventures or something of the likes?

And, once again, your posts remind me how much I wish they reanimated DB. I love this new style. It looks wonderful. On the other hand the reanimated Sailor Moon looks horrifying.Attitudefan wrote:I'm going to be that guy, but I'm glad they are not reanimating Dragon ball. Just look:

If you don't like the art in the recap, do you also dislike the rest of BoG? They both use new, redesigned character models.

Re: Series Recap in Extended BoG
The new animation has it's ups and downs. There are some more fluid movements, even in instances where the drawings themselves don't hold up. One of the reasons why I can put up with Last House in the original at times.UpFromTheSkies wrote:If you don't like the art in the recap, do you also dislike the rest of BoG? Anyway, the recaps look terrible in comparison to the rest of the movie, and they also just look bad in general for DBZ. Move bad, drawn bad compared to the original... at least everything after the King Piccolo recap imo.

Re: Series Recap in Extended BoG
Besides the Kaioken scene, I actually prefer how it looks in the recap. They should spend more time on drawing the faces more accurately tho.
