The atmosphere of Budokai 1

Not to necropost but, something else I noticed is that Burst Limit it seemed they tried to but as much effort into that as they did Budokai1, Sucks that they dropped the series after the first one!!

Budokai 1 feels very DB, whereas the rest feel more DBZ. However, the dreadful subs in the PAL version ruin the immersion a bit. I do wish they'd bring back the outlineless character models (no, Final Bout, you don't get praise for it). Plus the 'recap' music was very Kikuchi-like.

Budokai 1 is easily a contender for one of the best DBZ games out there, and I fully agree that it's not just the nostalgia factor. I would go and play this, but I'm scared to play any PS2 game on my 4K TV.

My laptop isn't good enough to run an emulator and wouldn't SD games look terrible on a flatscreen (and a 4K no less)?

If it wasn't for Budokai 1, I wouldn't still be loving the DB series and never care about anime again. Maybe one day if it was on my mind for some reason and had to look up either DB or DBZ on youtube, I would've got back to love it. I remember first playing it after the show ended on Toonami, then I think 5-7 months later, I brought Budokai 2 and didn't touch this game for a while. Time to time I'd play it if I wanna play the story.

Budokai 1 + 3 + IW easily qualify as the best DBZ games ever.

If Burst Limit had better custscenes and lasted through the Buu Saga that would be my #1 game.
