Dragon Boxes (US) prices

I've been checking out prices lately and I wonder... Do you guys think the prices will keep on rising, or have they reached a maximum?

Box 2 is going for an insane price of around 350 dollars, box 1 at 60-100 depending on the deal you get, Box 4 over 300... And box 7 over 100 to name a few rough prices.

I wonder, do you guys think this insanity will grow even higher? And eventually which boxes would? For people missing certain boxes, it'd be interesting to know.

Well, it is a matter of time, before rest of Dragon Boxes become OOP, I'm afraid we can only watch, how each of them will get overpriced, Magic Knight Rayearth Season 2 Remastered edition (From 2010) was 35$, and now, good luck finding it below 100$ http://www.amazon.com/Magic-Knight-Raye ... h+season+2 Same happened with Oreimo Season 1 LE, 200$ is absolute minimum. With is one of main reasons i spent over 300$ for anime this month, because i know, that in few months, i would pay that much, for just Oreimo S2

It all depend, how much people are willing to pay for all these items. Rest Boxes can become worth of 100$, but they can cost 300$ each

The US Dragon Boxes Z are going for those prices? Then to hell with them! If I were to get the Dragon Boxes now I'd go for the Japanese ones.

If you are lucky enough to get it for less than $350 maybe even $400. I would not go for the Dragon Boxes and if you want to maybe buy Dragon Box Volume 5 for sure and 1 and 3 maybe. I think Dragon Box 1 has dropped in price though which is pretty good. Just buy the Blu Rays or if you are experienced enough buy the Japanese Dragon Boxes and subtitle them

The full set I posted in the sell/trade thread just went for $624 USD. I've routinely seen sets go for about $500. Here's one starting at $650. As steep as these prices are, it beats buying them separately. Hell, Box 2 goes for half that nowadays.

Prices aren't going down, that's for sure.

As high as that sounds, I remember seeing listings for Box Two go up for about $600 on Amazon a few years back so I guess this is an improvement?

The issue is that the Dragon Boxes were really intended for the hardcore, collector-type amongst Dragonball Z fans, so you've got competitive pricing because that's how high collectors are willing to go. It's pretty sad for everyone who missed out, but this is how it was always going to be, they were a limited release after all.

I feel bad for everyone who didn't get the Boxes when they were cheap, but I'm really amused when I see someone saying something like "Funimation never said they were a limited release, so how were we supposed to know?". The default language on the set was Japanese. They are not going to keep that on the shelves as their default release forever. It was clearly going to be a limited release, especially considering it was aimed at the hardcore Japanese version fanbase.

Not only that, but the japanese Dragonboxes were limited edition too, so why wouldn't the american ones also be limited? I don't think FUNimation even advertised them as much as the orange bricks. They honestly were for a small niche set of fans (such as the Kansenshuu community).
I noticed they really were limited as soon as Dbox vol. 2 went OOP. Thankfully FUNimation did another small round of prints and that's when I was able to snatch my copy. Otherwise there would've been a whole in my collection too.

I'm still hoping they do Dragonbox: The Movies one day. I'm gonna pre-order two copies of that if it's ever announced. One for me, and one to sell for the outrageous price it'll go for a few years later.

Next time we all know to pre-order it so we all get the Dragon Boxes knowingly that later on they're going OoP but then again we've been wanting more Dragon Boxes since 2011 and the Level BDs too though that.. *sigh*

Honestly, the orange bricks are the ONLY home release of DBZ that both experienced a full release in its entirety and remained in print, so I'm surprised many people figured these would be on store shelves forever.

IIRC, they were announced as a limited release (heck, volume 2 didn't even print enough to satisfy pre-orders originally), but I remember that being argued to death years ago around here.

These came with custom high quality disc holders and comprehensive guidebooks. They wouldn't stay in print forever.

What releases like this ever have been in print for forever?

It's a shame that many people missed out on this, especially newer fans, as this really is the perfect release of the series if you only care about the japanese dialogue.

Heck, I backed up all of my discs and watch them that way, just so I don't risk damaging any of the discs.

Yep.. I like FUNimation but they can be a bit unreliable when it comes to Dragon Ball stuff. I've been waiting for more Dragonbox stuff since then, and I doubt we'll ever get any Boxes anymore, but just in case they do one day, we already know what to do. Especially since I bet scalpers will be all over them as soon as pre-orders open up.

Not having the 2 TV specials in Dragonbox forms makes me feel like I don't really have the complete set.. I see those two specials as part of the TV show itself. It's like missing a few essential episodes.

Agreed. The Dragonboxes simply screamed premium and limited edition. The boxes themselves are pretty nice quality, and the hardcover Dragonbooks are top-notch. The only thing I feel FUNimation did to cheapen the quality was putting a trailer at the beginning of every disc. It would've been fine if they put trailers under an "Extras" folder, but forcing trailers before the main menu cheapened the premium look of the Boxes, IMO.

BTW, I bought all my Boxes in 2011 but just got around to watching most of them this year. So far all my volumes are great, but I have one disc on my Dbox vol. 6 that has a scratch on it and it keeps skipping some scenes. Kinda bummed about this small hiccup in an otherwise great collection. And way, way too late to claim a faulty disc now, lol.

I don't think it was a case of people thinking they'd be on the shelves forever, but because there was no certainty surrounding whether or not they'd go OOP and when it would happen, most fans probably just thought something akin to 'I'll just get it with my next pay cheque' or 'I'll get them for christmas/birthdays' etc. Then before you know it, bam! You've been putting off buying them for a few months and now they're OOP and double their RRP.

Well, part of the reason I didn't get these was because I had already gotten the Japanese Dragonboxes. At the time I told myself I had to stop buying DBZ, but when I really wanted them and was about to buy, the price had gone up to unhealthy levels.

I didn't think they'd be in print forever, I just figured the last box would take a bit longer to go OoP...

I had just gotten Boxes 5 and 6 late, so I needed time to get some more money...Didn't think Box 7 would be gone so fast.

The packaging of the US Dragon Boxes were very average at best, the disc holders didn't do a very good job as they'd stack discs upon another one and to the point of breaking and the paper glued to the boxes wasn't done properly as they missed parts.

Between this and a bootleg packaging there isn't too much of a different, except for the yellow box and the booklet otherwise it's mediocre.

Agreed. My Dragon Box 5 discs didn't have part of the disc holder for 2 discs which then made the discs loose which sucks. It probably was mainly the shipping but the disc holders should be blamed also. Some of the plastic was ripped on my Dragon Box 3...

To be honest, for something that retailed for a $50 USD MSRP and was typically around $35~ USD if you pre-ordered from Rightstuff, it was a really great deal.

I won't deny that they aren't perfect, but given their price point at release, it was high quality. Personally, I haven't seen many DVD and BD releases that surpass it in terms of physical quality.

One of my discs were actually loose from when I received my Volume 2. However, I was able to back it up just fine, so no worries.

I highly suggest that anyone who owns these to do disc image back ups. It took me a weekend to do (and roughly 300GB of space), but it was definitely worth it to do.
