Will you buy the Majin Boo arc when it's released on BD/DVD?
Re: Will you buy the Majin Boo arc when it's released on BD/
The 16:9 situation is REALLY disheartening, Like a lot. I was always ok with it being 16x9 on TV due to the fact that A: It's advertised as being "Refreshed", they're not trying to pass this off as the original unmodified DBZ like FUNimation does with their cropped releases and B: It was going to be 4:3 on the Blu-rays.
Barring FUNimation getting 4:3 masters and fighting their fetish for cropping this show and actually releasing it in 4:3 for consistency sake, there won't be a way to own this arc of the series in 4:3... and that DOES make me sad.
BUT.... The improved pacing and better dub are REALLY huge factors in making me love Kai... The pacing is so bad in DBZ that Kai is basically my preferred way to watch the Saiyan - Cell portion of the story, and thus far I've been watching The Boo stuff and I'm loving the pacing here too... and that's honestly enough to override my dislike of the 16:9 situation..... so I'll be in it for the long haul. I'm buying all of Kai.

I got all four seasons of Kai on BD, so I'll definitely get the Kai Majin Buu saga, but only if it's uniformal and consistent with the rest of the show.. I've been hearing a lot about this 16:9 aspect ratio, and the Buu saga being 16:9 while the rest of the show is 4:3 on BD would really annoy my OCD and I would most likely not get it based on that alone.

So its been 4 months since the boo saga of Kai starting airing on Japanese TV, have you guys changed your mind if you are gonna buy the home release once funimation dubs it and release it?

Even after watching several episodes, acknowledging the green tint and the "meh" music placement... It's still not enough to sour me on picking up the Buu arc of Kai.
They'd have to royally screw up the English dubbing (like Season 3-4 levels of bad) to get me to not complete my collection. Thankfully, FUNi's past all of that.

DBZ. Season 3 is the beginning of the in-house dub. While season 3 is god awful, season 4 gets better as it goes along, as I recall.Naruto6583 wrote:Do you mean the original z or kai?theoriginalbilis wrote:Even after watching several episodes, acknowledging the green tint and the "meh" music placement... I can understand it being bad due to all the actors being inexperiencedABED wrote:DBZ. Season 3 is the beginning of the in-house dub. There's no reason to pick Dragon Ball Kai: The Green Puke Chapters up when you can find online fansubbed versions with the colors fixed.
*sigh* It's really sad when you realize fansubbers did a better job than Toei, it was an issue it could have been fixed in 5 minutes, yet Toei didn't bother.

*For the sake of expediency, whenever I say Kai in this post, know I'm referring exclusively to its international version.
I'll still more than likely buy the Z "season" seven equivalent of Kai for the dub.
The pacing between Buu's arrival at the heavenly plane (or whatever its designated Japanese name is) and Gohan's arrival on the battlefield, along with the pacing of the Genki Dama formation and usage, sorely needs to be more streamlined than in Z. Considering how much time worth of filler is in the latter mentioned part of the arc, Kai should do wonders for it. I'll more than likely buy the part(s) of Kai that comprises it if I'm right.
Also, the part with Vegetto drags its feet in the first two thirds or so. Given the supposedly lax editing style, I'm not so sure if Kai will help that and the Gotenks portion out significantly.
If it (Kai) omits the Vegeta vs. "Buuhan" filler that makes Vegeta look like more of a fool than even he should be, I might be glad to buy that portion of the story via Kai.
With everything mentioned above added up, the Kai equivalents of Z "seasons" seven and nine would be on my to-buy list (as opposed to to-do list). If that is to be the case, I'll probably end up getting the Z "season" eight equivalent just to round things out (and perhaps rectify any particularly stinging Z dub inaccuracies from that part of the Buu arc).

Really depends on how the Vegetto segment gets redone for me. Will they cut out the pointless cutaways to Heaven or Hercules and Dende? Yay! Will they cut down on base Vegetto laying a beating? Boo.

It's taking so long for them to get this rolling! Maybe if they would hurry with these kind of things I would buy them, but life is gets hard when you get older.
Makes you spend money more wisely.
Re: Will you buy the Majin Boo arc when it's released on BD/
I really dont understand why some people are so adamant about not wanting to have it. Especially those that already own the rest of Kai. Is it what it should be? No, absolutely not. Could it have been better? Most definitely. However that being said, (assuming one is buying it for the main reason of having the English dub anyway) it still (should and i would safely assume) should have vastly superior and more faithful scripts and improved acting. Thats pretty much a complete given and at least to me one of the greatest parts of the entire experience, being able to watch the show and not feel like a 5 year old or something :p And while yeah the cutting and pacing could have been handled much better, they still did cut over 20 episodes of filler. Does that excuse the fact that it should have been done better? No. But its certainly better than nothing in my opinion. I'll agree that the music can go back and forth a bit sometimes, but rarely have i felt like it genuinely just flat out ruined or seriously strongly detracted from a scene. Again, its not really to excuse mediocrity, but at the same time in a lot of ways i dont feel like a lot of the things people complain about are just completely ruining the show like a lot of people around seem to feel like. It should have been handled better. And people absolutely should complain and let their feelings and voices be heard to the powers at be and such. But I also feel like people can still absolutely enjoy what we do have and are likely going to be getting. At least in my opinion anyway.

Yeah, I think I'll pick up the sets where Vegetto and the final fight with KId Buu happen (hopefully like Z S9, it'll all be in one set)JEFFMAN219 wrote:So its been 4 months since the boo saga of Kai starting airing on Japanese TV, have you guys changed your mind if you are gonna buy the home release once funimation dubs it and release it?

The International version seems to be overall better than the Japanese cut and I've already gotten used to Fight It Out! so I'm just waiting for FUNimation to have it up for pre-order and then go for it.
As for the cropping yeah, I'd have preferred it to be 4x3 AR but the widescreen cropping they did was selective and they show more than FUNimation does on their Season Blu-rays so I'm okay with it.
From ShinGaijin:
Dragon Ball Kai: Majin Boo arc - Toei Japanese cut

Dragon Ball Z: Season BD - FUNimation remaster

FUNimation 2015 Releases I want:
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray

Colour wise the new blu ray sets look better to me as of now. But hopefully the home release of Kai does not have the green tint.
Re: Will you buy the Majin Boo arc when it's released on BD/
^Is that a shot that zooms in by any chance? I find it hard to believe that FUNi would crop a shot that much, especially given that the Bricks did in fact have a fair amount of extra footage on the sides. Not enough to offset the cropping, but definitely enough that this surprises me.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
Re: Will you buy the Majin Boo arc when it's released on BD/
Well, it was mentioned that Toei managed to achieve an unprecedented amount of footage on the sides for Boo arc Kai.

The soundtrack alone is enough to make me run as far away from this as possible. There's just no way I can justify supporting this type of release.
I have a Dragon Ball collection of sorts which can be seen here.
