Ah nevermind then. Thank you for the explanation.
Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods
Looks like TVB has aired Battle of Gods in Hong Kong recently with a completely different Cantonese dub as opposed to what was in the bluray release. As far as I can tell, this is a much better dub since most of the familiar voices reprise their respective roles from Dragon Ball Kai.
Too bad it's not the extended cut of the film.

I honestly had no idea it wasn't Japanese until we discussed it on Twitter, and even then, I was pretty sure for quite awhile you were wrong.SaiyaJedi wrote: I have to be honest: despite being well-practiced at deciphering "English" spoken by native Japanese speakers who don't actually understand what they're saying, the only real way I can tell that the English versions of these songs are playing is because I think to myself, "Hmm. This Japanese isn't making any sense to me at all. In fact, I'm not sure it is Japanese...."
It's so utterly nonsensical until Vegetto pointed it out I had no clue the songs had been actual 'English' versions of them. I even asked other people I know who went, and no one could identify them as 'English' versions of songs.

The Hong Kong tv airing had partial english subtitles to engrish version of the song. Now I understand what they were singing about. I'll post part of the lyrics when I get the time.

Finally finished watching the tvb cantonese dub of "kami to kami" and "cha la head cha la" had english subtitles for its engrish version. Lyrics are weird. Mountains look like butts in the sky? Wtf?

Just pre-ordered the UK Collectors Edition Blu-Ray, along with the Collectors Editions of the UK Attack On Titan Part 1 box and the Guardians of the Galaxy CD!
My first time shopping with my own money online! I`m so exited! I live in Norway, so this is my only way to watch the movie, and I can`t wait to hear the English dub!

Partial lyrics to Hero (English version)
According to provided subtitles in the hong kong tv airings on J2
Reality could put you through a test sometimes.
A trial very much like a power from above.
All day, all night.
You know sometimes it makes you sick to the bone.
(Inaudible)
Oh yeah, all right!
The sun is ready to shine on!
Be brave and gimme gimme power.
Power up power up power
You gotta let it awake.
And no matter what, you get right up where you were stopped dead in the ground.
That's why you're running running running.
Running for the future.
Trying to live up to your dream.
I see you dashing through the wind just like a hero.
Get over the sorrow.
Heartbeat is rising.
Pouring out emotions.
Ringing in the distance....

This whole deal lately with Japanese artists not letting foreign studios dub songs, while I can understand from a creative standpoint, is really frustrating at times. Just...look at that...why even dub it at all if it's gonna turn out like that?

The site already had it up. It ain't exactly pretty, especially when combined with the way it's sung.

Just got back from the 4:00 showing here in NZ. Absolutely loved it, especially when viewing it on the big screen.
This is also single-handedly Funimation's best dub of a Dragon Ball product to have ever come out.

I quite enjoyed the dub as well, seeing the 1:00 PM showing in Sydney. My dad on the other hand (who has seen the entire show in Japanese with this being his first exposure to the dub) wasn't fond of the English voice cast. He liked Beerus and Whis, but not anyone else. He particularly hated King Kai and also singled both Goku and Bulma out as voices he didn't like as well.
Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods
I spoke with Ryo Horikawa yesterday at Fan Expo and asked him if he recorded lines first before animation had been completed (in the style of how Pixar movies are done) or if all the animation had been completed while he was recording (much akin to how Ghibli films are made). He said it was the former for Battle of Gods.

Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods
I'm back. And I'm happy. So, so happy.
My experience was at the Paramount Theatre in Wellington, which is more of an art house theatre than an actual, mainstream, blockbuster sort of cinema. Unfortunately, I couldn't convince anyone to go with me, so I sat alone as a quiet observer. The screening took place in the building's largest theatre, which has a bit of an odd set-up going on. The screen itself is fairly small and everyone sitting in the top-half of the theatre was actually looking down at the screen rather than directly at it, with the roof sloping downwards to direct your eyes. There was, however, a lot of seating and nice seats at that (despite the old wooden flooring). A lot of them have awkward sightlines, as I implied earlier, which was unfortunate for some because the theatre was 95% full with only a few empty seats up at the very back. I was both surprised and excited by this, considering how little publicity this event got. I only saw it mentioned on Madman's Facebook page and nowhere else. Who would've thought there were so many Dragon Ball fans in little ol' Wellington? And well informed ones at that. A lot of them had DB shirts, one of them sporting the dreaded "OVER N*NE THOUSAND!", but that didn't bother me too much. I actually spotted a One Piece one as well, which I guess is kinda relevant. Overall, there was a fantastic mix of people there- most of them aged between 20-30. There were several groups of friends around, I noticed a particularly large group of about 10 people sitting down the front. Also a decent number of couples, as well as older brothers with their younger siblings. I think I only saw one family in the whole theatre. Was incredibly interesting listening to the discussions happening around me prior to the movie; lot of talk about Episode of Bardock and Abridged going on.
Before the movie began, they had a little quiz with giveaways. The questions were, for some reason, very Cell Arc oriented and people basically had to stand up and yell out the answer first to receive a prize. This was both cringe-worthy and hilarious. A guy down the back was yelling out a ton of comments, which kinda made me worried for the movie itself, but thankfully this subsided. Oh, and for anyone wondering, they were giving away two copies of Madman's DBZ Movie Collection. And so, after all that excitement, the movie finally began and it was a fantastically fun time. As the audience erupted into laughter when Kaio and Goku started driving around his planet, I knew I was in for something special. I swear there were tears in my eyes when the title card kicked in. The whole crowd was in top form the whole way through, the Trunks and Mai stuff got a massive reaction as did Goku introducing himself to Beerus. Obviously the 'Bingo Song' had a big laugh, but surprisingly not the biggest. Beerus hitting Bulma and Vegeta's subsequent reaction had more gasps than laughing as well. I was fortunate enough to be seated next to a couple who were, "particularly into it", shall I say. The whole experience and atmosphere was fantastic. Undoubtedly one of my greatest ever movie-going experiences; because it was Dragon Ball obviously, but also because of how enthusiastic everyone was and how they were all on the same page. One major of advantage of having seen the movie beforehand was being able to anticipate how people were gonna react to each moment. I must admit, I cringed a little when the 'Engrish' version of Hero started playing (I seem to recall Goku's line was also a mouth-full at that moment), but it was still amazing to see that scene play out in a cinema with a hundred other like-minded fans around me. As the credits rolled, I noticed a few people were singing along which kinda surprised me, but it also made me smile; one women was even dancing on her seat! Everyone seemed to have enjoyed the movie, but I could tell many were people taken off-guard by how goofy it was. The experience was capped off with a free copy of Madman's BOG poster which contains all of the credits and logos at the bottom. They just had them all laid out on table in the lobby and I was kinda tempted to go back and grab a few more (mine got creased slightly in my bag). Was quite funny wandering around town later on and seeing groups of people walking around with posters rolled up in their hands.

(Apologies for the sloppy photo, I took it in a rush.)
I get Battle of Gods now. In the lead-up to the film's release, I knew where Toriyama was coming from when he talked about making a feel-good movie that brought generations together, but I wasn't fully convinced after simply watching it in Japanese. After watching it in a, close-to-full theatre, in a language I understand, I fully get it now. I get you Toriyama. As nice as it is to just sit at home by yourself and pop in the DVD, this movie was meant to be experienced in a theatre with other people. It's this idea of bringing people together to have a good time and enjoy these characters that Toriyama was going for, and I think I have a much better grasp of the spirit of this movie now that I have a better understanding of the interactions between the characters. Prior to this screening, I hadn't even watched the movie with subtitles, so I was always missing that little something that made this film so special. This doesn't mean I want them to sacrifice a substantial story again next time around, but I've really come around to the idea of keeping the humour prominent, because you get those crowd reactions when you watch it with other people and it makes every gag seem twice as funny. That's something you miss when you go for the dark and the gritty. Don't underestimate the impact of a feel-good film. BOG might not be deep and thought-provoking, but it still had a lasting impact on every single person in that theatre. You could feel the good vibes afterwards and I know this makes me sound like a nut, but it gave me the biggest grin. I'm still wearing that grin while I write this and remember those, all to brief, 85 minutes (longer run-time in the next film, please
). It was such a surreal experience. I had to keep reminding myself that I was watching a "new" DBZ movie in a full theatre. This was something that I'd been wanting to do since I rented Cooler's Revenge for the first time 8 years ago. As I said on Twitter, "A childhood dream has been fulfilled." Definitely picking up the home release. Even if I won't be getting the same atmosphere, I'm still looking forward to listening to the dub again.
After how successful these screenings, I have to imagine that they'll do this again, and that day can't come soon enough. Hopefully we'll be able to get it in the same year as Japan this time around now. Fingers crossed. Roll on 2015 and the next film!

I couldn't have said it better, DragonBoxZTheMovies.
Likewise on being surprised at just how many DB fans there were in our little parts of New Zealand, especially when most of them were well-enough informed. I managed to have a small chat with a guy behind me in line who was talking with his buddies about some DB stuff. I asked if this was his first time seeing the movie, and he responded that it was indeed the first time... in English! Haha! He mentioned having seen the sub about a year ago. I mentioned the extended version of the film, which actually took him by surprise and he asked what it was. 20 minutes additional footage, film was originally meant to be 2 hours long, yadda yadda. I even questioned him if he knew about the new movie coming out next year and he even knew about the main premise of the film of "a wish gone wrong, resulting in an ultimate despair".
Although, there was this one group who had this guy. They were talking about memorable scenes from the series, a small discussion about the Cell saga and then it had to happen.
Guy1: Yeah, the Cell saga was pretty boss, although it did run on kinda long. We should rewatch it sometime.
Guy2: Nah bro, just watch Abridged.
Guy1: Eehh, it's alright.
Guy2: Abridged is funny as sh*t (Meaning very funny, not that its bad)
The inward cringe I was having was well over 9000.... sorry, I had to.
Surprisingly, the theatre actually giggled a bit when it came to the slapping contest between Bulma and Beerus. In fact, nobody in the entire theatre cheered for any of the scenes. No gasps, no "ooooh!"'s or anything. Just giggles and laughter.
I will say though, the entire theatre ERUPTED into laughter with Goku impersonating Vegeta at the end with "MY BULMA!". I couldn't help but join in.
Likewise on the movie NEEDING to be experienced in the theatre. What you typed sums up perfectly on what makes this film so great. Although there were people around my age (20's), there were a few people older and actually some kids as well, which was very fun to see.
Managed to get that same poster as well, although you were only able to claim an amount of posters depending on how many tickets you bought.

Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods
I just got back from watching it in Cinema Nova here in Melbourne and my God it was amazing. They gave out free posters and I got two, my friend grabbed five XD. The thing I loved most about watching this movie in a theatre was seeing all kinds of different people watching it with me, there were kids, teens, adults and even elderly people. I'm amazed as to how much Dragon Ball appeals to so many different people. Only downside to this was that there was a fire drill during the movie and it was actually pretty funny, a guy entered the theatre and told us to get out because the fire alarm went off and everyone moaned in disappointment, it was hilarious. We got back in the theatre a few minutes later though.
The dub itself was fantastic, it made the movie feel more fresh than the Japanese version (and that's probably because I don't speak Japanese) and I got more of the jokes.
This movie feels like a love letter from Akira Toriyama, I absolutely love it and cannot wait to buy it on Blu-ray. I can't wait to watch the sequel as well, this time I'll wait for the English dub.
