To pile on with the revised dub problems, whilst watching season 6, I noticed they also flip flopped between Hercule and Mr. Satan, one person even called him Hercule Satan. Gah! So annoying.

That's just a problem with their "uncut" dub in general. Even on the old singles they'd switch between H and Mr. Satan, or some combination of the two as you pointed out.

While it is still present, I don't remember hearing as many Hercule's in the Buu arc as the Cell arc. It's been awhile since I've watched it, though.Baggie_Saiyan wrote:Ahh right, did they continue doing that for Season 7+?

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" On Blu-ray: News & Discussion
I'm currently watching the Buu arc for the first time, and I can definitely say the name Hercule comes up a decent amount of times, but not more than Mr. Satan. The dub treats Hercule Satan as his full name, supported by the name Videl Satan being used on occasion.Freeza Soldier #156 wrote:While it is still present, I don't remember hearing as many Hercule's in the Buu arc as the Cell arc. How do you guys think about the home release of Kai currently. Will you still be sticking to the Seasons and just buying that or will you just buy Kai and not get these sets assuming that it is like the Japanese release. Will you buy both?

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" On Blu-ray: News & Discussion
Well....I hope I'm not lying to myself but I want these new Blu-ray season sets to be my last buy of the Z series. I'm satisfied with them and anytime I want to watch a really awesome quality release, I'll just pop in the Dragon-boxes. Now I plan on buying the Boo saga of Kai as well and after that I'm done. UNLESS! UNLESS!!! Toei decided to reanimate the series like they are doing with the Sailor Moon Crystal(I think that's Toei?) If they did that I would be willing to dive back into the pool BUT! I don't ever see that happening. lol I'm hoping to God that Funimation gives us the original Dragonball Dragon-boxes and GT & the movies in DBOX format.TheKingOfKamehamehas wrote:How do you guys think about the home release of Kai currently. The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

Why buy the Season Sets if you already own the Dragon Boxes? I'm not judging you for purchasing them, or anything. I just honestly find it hard to understand. Does the footage being in HD really warrant a double dip when everything else about the product is inferior to the Dragon Boxes? You admit the version of the show you already own has an "awesome quality," so why purchase it again?

They are people who like the American music and they also probably like the extras on these sets and English title cards. It is also nice to compare the footage sometimes. Those are the one I can think on the top of my head.ParkerAL wrote:Why buy the Season Sets if you already own the Dragon Boxes? I'm not judging you for purchasing them, or anything. I don't have any reason to buy or watch Z now that Kai covers it from beginning to end,Sure Z has better music and placement but Kai does everything else better.TheKingOfKamehamehas wrote:How do you guys think about the home release of Kai currently. I figure both will look good on a TV that isn't huge (I own the first FUNi Dragon Box volume and have examined qjz123's full resolution season set screenshots, along with Box shots used for comparison). Then, it's a trade-off regarding other attributes. The season sets have better mono audio, the U.S. score, and a thinner profile, while the Dragon Boxes have 4:3 and next episode previews (you could also count the Dragon Books). I will say, though, season five appears to have brightness problems. Season six has a little of those, too, but they typically don't look as bad.TheKingOfKamehamehas wrote:They are people who like the American music and they also probably like the extras on these sets and English title cards. For the English dub, I'll agree. But with the Japanese sub... I dunno. I still think the original is better.sintzu wrote:I don't have any reason to buy or watch Z now that Kai covers it from beginning to end,Sure Z has better music and placement but Kai does everything else better.

I don't watch it or any other anime in Japanese but from what i've read about it the cast did a better job on Z.ect5150 wrote: For the English dub, I'll agree. But with the Japanese sub... I dunno. I still think the original is better.

I hope we can S9 in December. That would be awesome.

Oh, of course. I completely forgot about the American music not being on the Dragon Boxes for a second.TheKingOfKamehamehas wrote:They are people who like the American music and they also probably like the extras on these sets and English title cards. I like the american soundtrack same as I do the Japanese. Plus I have nothing against the quality of this release...I like them a-lot actually. Sure, I hate certain things about them. but they don't bother me like they do others.ParkerAL wrote:Why buy the Season Sets if you already own the Dragon Boxes? Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" On Blu-ray: News & Discussion
The Level Blu-rays serve as a purpose to show how spectacular Dragon Ball Z can look in HD unfiltered at its best and they were probably the last of it as neither Toei nor FUNimation would go through the trouble of remastering frame by frame for all 291 episodes.
If Toei decides to remaster Dragon Ball Z then it's likely to be a process similar (more economical solution) to Saint Seiya.

FUNimation 2015 Releases I want:

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" On Blu-ray: News & Discussion
It's probably a long shot but couldn't Funi just release an unfilitered version based on the new season sets? Considering they were remastered in 4x3 and cropping came later it couldn't be that much extra workdbboxkaifan wrote:The Level Blu-rays serve as a purpose to show how spectacular Dragon Ball Z can look in HD unfiltered at its best and they were probably the last of it as neither Toei nor FUNimation would go through the trouble of remastering frame by frame for all 291 episodes.

Unless some of the filters were hiding defects then who knows, they could try reframing some bad episodes since they said they had a bad batch of episodes.
I wouldn't mind the new seasons if they didn't go crazy on the filters and it's also odd they released the entire series in a year... Isn't it the norm to release Z in 2 years? If they were to re-release the series I hope to god they won't announce "hey, we're re-releasing the series now in 4x3" months after s9 is released.
This release seems more like fund a better release then anything else.

If Funimation came right out with another release of Z that was in 4x3 WITH! next episode previews, I'd still say sorry...Just bought all the season sets.
Also I'm hoping that by us buying these sets it's funding more Dragon-boxes.

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" On Blu-ray: News & Discussion
They've been consistently releasing the series since the pioneer days, the re-releases didn't start until 2007. But since 2007 there have been 4 releases of DBZ alone, seasons, dbox, levels, and seasons-bd.samuraix123 wrote:If Funimation came right out with another release of Z that was in 4x3 WITH! next episode previews, I'd still say sorry...Just bought all the season sets. Also I'm hoping that by us buying these sets it's funding more Dragon-boxes.
If they are going to release a definitive set they should probably remaster the first 3 seasons and release them in 3 definitive box sets.
But that's just how I'd do it anyway.
