Filipino english dub

Post by JackyBoi99 » Tue Sep 09, 2014 1:58 am

Hey guys, recently I have found some dragon ball z filipino english dub clips. From what I have heard, there was a filipino english dub for all of dragon ball and a handful of dragon ball z. Can anyone provide more information on this, or possibly have some more clips or epsiodes?
It is clear that sometime in Mark Satan's life, he acquired the dragon balls and called upon shenlong to grant him immortality.

I haven't really found many reliable sources to refer to about the Filipino English dub, but I found a webpage from 1998 by someone in the Philippines talking about the various dubs they had:

http://www.webring.org/l/rd?ring=p_otak ... gon%2Ehtml

We have no way of proving anything on this page is true, but it's some interesting speculation.

From the Philippines here. I grew up watching Dragon Ball Z (it was shown until Saiyan Saga only) and Dragon Ball (complete) in English dubbed but those versions didn't see the light in VHS\DVD version

There are movie clips out there, but I've never been able to find more. Note that they actually say Saiyan correctly.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
I'm really interested to see how they did the series. From what I have seen from the movies, the dub isn't too bad.

Not exactly. FUNimation screws up the 'Sai' in Saiyan, and these guys screw up the 'an'.

That actually sounds pretty good considering it's from a country where English isn't the primary language. The Chinese produced English dub was horrible, it sounded like they didn't know any English, and were just reading from a script and guessing word pronunciations.

Wait, there was a chinese english dub?
Yes there was. So far as I know, they only dubbed the movies, and the VCDs had English audio in one channel and Cantonese in the other.

Just type "Malaysian English dub" in YT and you'll find some. At some points, it's barely understandable.

I've seen the Malaysian english dub, it is hilarious I must admit.

It's good in our standard. Here's the Philippine English version of Dragon ball and DBZ theme

It's funny now, but back in the late 90's when I ordered the VCDs, it was really disappointing.

My favourites would have to be "A World filled with Love" and "Go For Number One"

A World filled with Love: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fGmHgz- ... 6H2EU9-_Nw (I think it's actually better than FUNi's!)

Go For Number One: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZV0lI8V ... 6H2EU9-_Nw

Such a shame this was never officially released, seems a lot of love and effort went into it.

Were the opening and ending theme songs in Japanese or did they use the English ones they produced?

They used the english version for the opening song... all Dragon Ball and DBZ episodes shown in the Phillipines are in English dubbed. if my memory serves me right, even the ending-credit song is in english version
