Did you come around to liking Mr. Satan?
Re: Did you come around to liking Mr. Satan?
When he first came around I hated him, he was really annoying, especially in his filler scenes, but Mr. Satan won me over when he beat up those two guys that shot Boos puppy. Now I love the guy. So when I go back to the Cell games I like him way more than I did before cause I know eventually he became a better person.

Re: Did you come around to liking Mr. Satan?
My story is pretty much the same as everyone else's - I didn't much care for the character when I first saw him, but as soon as we got to the Boo arc, even before we get to Boo himself, he started to grow on me. Maybe it was what little interactions we got to see between him and Videl, but he finally started to seem like an actual "person" as it were, rather than this gimmick character that was just there to steal Gohan's thunder. Now he's probably another of my favorite characters.

I loath him. Everytime he appears, he eats-up most of the screen-time. Cell Saga~Buu Saga, Satan's appearance really bugged.
Now, I've absolutely adore his character. I'll have to say most of the credit goes to late-Daisuki Gori for crafting such a memorable character.
Serving as yardstick between Human & Zetto Senshi's, Misuta Satan is a "comedy-piece" character that serves as Toriyama's way of saying just how ridiculously powered-up DBZ characters are.
His presence in Movie 9 & 11 was an absolute delight for me.

Hated him until the moment Goku looks around for Vegeta when he's about to throw the Genki-Dama at Buu - and Satan is carrying him out of harm's way. That's when I thought "Y'know what, that Mr Satan's an alright guy."

Re: Did you come around to liking Mr. Satan?
As a kid my initial reaction to him was a good one. He was always a pretty funny character to me. I never understood why others hated him (even before the Cell games), I guess it was just his appearance.
After he took credit for beating Cell that bugged me a bit but honestly I found it more funny than anything else, it was like the punchline to a good joke. I think the people that looked at that seriously and despised him are just the types of people with no sense of humour.
Everyone seems to like him in the Buu arc and understandably so because that's where his character developed but I found that the humour in his character decreased somewhat for me when he became super sappy and an uber good guy. He was still really funny during the Tournament saga though.

I'm surprised there are fans who don't like him especially since he did more in the Buu arc then the so called "second protagonist" Gohan.
July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.

I've always liked him as a character
Canon is Jaco, Dragon Ball except for EoZ, Dragon Ball Super anime and manga (both are separate canons)

Re: Did you come around to liking Mr. Satan?
I wouldn't say I hated him but he definitely grew on me in the Buu saga. Especially in the final battle when he stood up to kid Buu. Some of his lines to Kid Buu were hilarious like "Caught you with your hand in the cookie jar didn't I big guy!" and "The real battle's about to begin". Chris Rager's delivery makes it all the more hilarious.
And I admired how he stood up to Vegeta when Vegeta asked him to sacrifice the people of earth to win the fight. I'd say he really redeemed himself there. And he continued to be really funny in GT.

Not enough screen-time.
I wish we could have gotten a lot more of him earlier on in the Cell Arc, to balance out the darker attitude the series had taken. It would have been nice to have regular breaks to Mr. Satan and his apprentices. He should have had more screen time in Battle of Gods as well; his thinking that Videl was talking about using him to complete the Super Saiyan God ritual was classic.

Re: Did you come around to liking Mr. Satan?
DB is never really dark, and it's a nice change of pace, humor is great but undercuts tension. It's one of the reasons I'm not a big fan of the Buu arc or Iron Man 3.Kamiccolo9 wrote:Not enough screen-time.

I'm surprised so many liked Mr. Satan right off the bat.

I never liked and still don't like him as a character. No matter what dub I watch I find Mr. Satan extremely annoying and useless. I live every character except that one. Maybe my opinion will change someday.

I hate him during the Cell Games, from the my first time watching to today, he takes away from the actual fighting and story to much. But after the seven years of peace he becomes one of my favorite characters.

I never hated/disliked him really.
He basically just went from "goofy joke character" to "goofy joke character who's actually kinda badass for a normal human" to "goofy joke character who's also a pretty great guy and actually manages to save the world for real in the end" for me.

Re: Did you come around to liking Mr. Satan?
Something else that occurred to me is that he basically replaced Yajirobe as the joke character. Who do you guys think better serves that role? Yajirobe had some classic moments in the Saiyan saga. Krillin still makes fun of him in the Cell saga for him trying to calm Vegeta down by saying he'd always admired him and that he'd like to join him.
Re: Did you come around to liking Mr. Satan?
I didn't appreciate him when I was a kid because I was more interested in the badass aspects of Dragon Ball and he was constant distraction from them, especially in the Cell games. Nowadays, I still think that the anime overdid it with him and his students in the Cell games, but I love his character.

Re: Did you come around to liking Mr. Satan?
I liked him from the start! The first episode of DBZ I ever saw was the Buu arc, when Mr. Satan goes out of that undeground shelter, to fight Majin Buu.
I was ill and off school that day, switching TV programs and stumbled on this. I never knew that Dragon Ball had some sequel, because the show wasn't that entertaining for me, mostly because of language barrier,
and always stumbling upon one episode out from context. And also, almost everytime I saw DB on TV, there was that Piccolo Jr's powering up episode, that was mostly about him powering up and blowing up the Island at the end.
The main spot I was waiting for were Digimon that aired right after.... Hahaha, yeah, as a kid, I enjoyed Digimon a lot more then DB.
I knew Dragon Ball, not Z from before and found these episodes extremely funny. Then I got hooked up on the story and went back to watch the whole DBZ on RTL II.
Around this time, I didn't like him that much around Cell saga, because he is such asshole there.

Re: Did you come around to liking Mr. Satan?
I used to find him really annoying when he would keep reiting the same lie over and over again insulting the audience. I felt that he was more so if an empty blow-hard in the Buu saga because he was never shown anything to his credit, he was just hyped off an off-screen prologue and pretty much during the early Buu saga, but I began to like him when I could see his honesty and innocence in his friendship with Buu on the Kai planet. When he thought everything happening was a dream but despite cheering for Mr. Buu to beat Kid Buu. I prefered him there best, on GT he was also relatively unchanged character-wise and was a reliable team member despite his uselessness. I also started to respect him when he has shown he is actually pretty skillful against robbers.
Zephyr wrote:The fandom's collective fetishizing of "moments" is also ridiculous to me. No, not everyone needs a fucking "shine" moment. If that's all you want, then all you want is fanservice, rather than an actual coherent story. And of course those aren't mutually exclusive; you could have a coherent story with "shine" moments! But if a story is perfectly coherent (and I'm really not seeing any compelling arguments that this one is anything but, despite constantly recurring, really poorly reasoned, attempts to argue otherwise), and you're bemoaning the lack of "shine" moments as a reason for the story's poor quality, then you're letting your thirst for "shine" moments obfuscate your ability to detect basic storytelling when it's right in front of you.

I don't like him...he's a shitty replacement for Master Roshi
He never makes me laugh...like Roshi used to
This is why I hate DBZ sometimes...always replacing my favorite characters with some shitty ones I don't care for
I'll take Roshi over Satan anyday and I'll take Lunch over "Bland as fuck" Videl too
