The Happenings of Post-Piccolo Jr. Saga Filler

Post by Maphisto86 » Wed Sep 20, 2006 9:17 am

Out of curiosity and a query posed to me what ever did happen during Goku and Chi-Chi's adventures in the anime filler after the 23rd Budokai Tenkaichi? I know Chi-Chi wanted to save her father and his castle (wasen't that destroyed?) using the Bansho fan but know little of the details because I didn't see that part. Can anyone give me a synopsis of Goku and Chi-Chi's adventures and the outcome during this time? It would be much appreciated... :D Thank you!

I dont get whats up with my keyboard, I must have pressed something but now I cant put an apostrophe in, so apologies in advance.

I havent seen it in a very long time but they travel around on nimbus looking for the bansho fan. They end up at this place thats guarded by Annin, I think its the doorway to the afterlife but I'm not too sure. Grandpa Gohan is also there, they find out that the castle is on fire because theres a hole in this huge cauldron thing.

I really cant remember, somebody else will post more I hope.

Simply put every episode after the canon episodes is "meh" and boring and adds nothing to the story. That said, if somebody somewhere likes it, that is one weird fan. If anyone can find him, I will give that person a medal for finding the strangest fan on Earth.

PS:I am not hating the whole "Goku and Chichi saving the Gyuumao by going to the Mountain of 5 Elements" plotline. I also dislike the whole "Goku is a socialy retarded idiot" thing that this episode seems to reinforce. No hating here folks.

Heh heh I hear you... I'm usually not much for filler episodes either but I'm still curious as to the details of these pre DBZ episodes since I haven't seen them. Also someone I know online wants to also know these things for a fanfiction chapter.

I remember one of the scenes involved Goku and Chi Chi to search in a hot springs area, and they met lots of Oolong look-a-likes... and of course they were all perverted

Personally, I thought these episodes were really fun. They were the last real shred of the amazing adventure-style fun that was original DB, which is basically diminished (IMO) to a considerable degree once Dead Zone and the Saiyan Saga came about. I enjoyed watching these episodes when they first aired on Cartoon Network, seeing how Goku and Chichi were between the 23rd Budokai and their wedding, I'm 100% convinced Chichi didn't drug the naive Saiyan into Gohan's existence. :P

Regarding the story of what happens, it's pretty much what Stoney said, but to go a bit more in depth, here's what basically occurs:

Goku and Chichi head to Ox King's palace. Wedding preparations begin literally the second the happy couple gets there (and trust me, you haven't lived till you've seen Goku and Chichi getting dance lessons for their reception XD). During all this preparing, an earthquake begins; before everyone knows it, gargantuan flames engulf Fire Mountain once again. With Ox King trapped keeping Chichi's wedding dress from harm, Goku and Chichi have to set out on a quest to find the Bansho Fan. However, since it was stained by Roshi many years ago, they get a map from Umigame that supposedly points the way to an extinct bird containing feathers that make up the original fan.

During their adventure in a volcano, we run into Emperor Pilaf, Mai, and Shuu once again (no joke), who've returned for one last 2-episode stint. To the dismay of Goku and Chichi, when they actually discover the last of the bird's kind being born, its feathers dissolve upon human contact. Taking the egg shells with them, they head off, however unknown to them, Roshi is scolding Umigame for giving Goku a map that was created for the sole purpose of impressing a few pichi-pichi gals.

Seeking help from Baba to find the Bansho Fan, the couple heads to Baba's place where she directs them to a place containing a true map of how to create a new Bansho Fan. Goku brings Baba along to what is essentially a Spring Resort, headed by what appears to be Oolong's relatives. After a brief escapade where Chichi's peeped-on by Oolong's family, Goku discovers the map to create the fan is within the spring, pointing them to a snowy mountain where Pilaf lies in wait.

Once there, they meet an odd old woman who forges octagon shaped honey combs. After one more adventure Goku and Pilaf have together on the snowy mountain, everyone discovers that the original Bansho Fan thrown away by Roshi is actually in possession of the octagon woman. With Pilaf threatening to cut it to shreds, Goku quickly recovers it, dispatching Pilaf and his cronies one more time to the snowy mountain, Pilaf is never to be seen again till his return in the first GT episode.

Returning to Fire Mountain with the Bansho Fan, Goku tries his hardest to put out the fire, merely putting it out for no more than 5 seconds. Learning from Baba that this fire is actually a leak within the Spirit Realm, Goku and Chichi take one more adventure to the fabled doorway between the living world and the next. After making their way through, they have to encounter numerous illusions of warriors and dragons. Not buying the illusions, Goku Kamehame-Has himself and Chichi through a mouth of a dragon, successfully bringing the two to the cave of the Spirit Furnace.

Making their way inside, Goku and Chichi come upon Goku's Grandfather, Gohan, whom Goku mistakes for being Tajoro; the guardian of the Spirit Furnace. After formally introducing Chichi to Gohan, a gigantic woman comes into sight, shrinking herself to a normal size and introducing herself as Anine - A.K.A. Tojoro. After learning from Goku that he wishes to turn the Spirit Furnace off to free the Ox King, Anine starts a battle between the two after Goku attempts to turn the lever. However once Anine sees that Goku is holding the Bansho Fan, she halts the battle and agrees to allow Goku to travel inside the furnace to patch the leak.

Thanks to the previous travels of attaining particular egg shells and octagon honey, Goku is fully prepared to travel into the Furnace. Anine showers him in a handful of water (she's giant sized at this point in order to lift the Furnace lid) and Goku makes his way with the help of the Bansho Fan. Ending up at the very bottom of what the Monkey King, Son Wukong, found himself in; Goku patches the leak and makes a B-line out of the Furnace. With the help of his recently patented Bukujutsu and Power Pole, he escapes the Furnace, at this point the flames at Fire Mountain have lowered just in time. Goku bids a final farewell to his Grandfather, wishing him many happy years with Anine, and he and Chichi travel back to the castle.

With Ox King's miraculous survival and the wedding dress unscathed, the wedding goes on as planned; Ox King, Baba, and hundreds of villagers witness the beautiful ceremony. Chichi thanks everyone for attending as Ox proclaims how proud he is of his only daughter. Chichi grips her white tux husband's arm, much to Goku's happiness. With one last moment in the day, Baba responds to the Narrator by seeing into Goku and Chichi's future. Not saying anything to the viewer, she only lets out a small shocked sound, grins, and winks at us as we move into DragonBall Z.

That was an excellent summary Conan! You have become this threads MVP (Most Valuable Poster) to which I salute and hand you candy.

Seriously though, that was not a bad choice at all on Toei's part for series transition filler. It sounds like a mini-quest from a Zelda game, oddly enough (collect this, trade this, journey there, use this, revisit this, trade this again, etc...).

Thanks for the props, Duo. I agree, it's like I said, those were very fun episodes to cap off the original DB series and a pretty good transition into DBZ. Funny though how it all happens in the same day as the 23rd Budokai, that's gotta be an even longer single day than Goku's one day back to life in the Buu arc. The mysteries of time in DragonBall never cease to amaze me. :P

Excellent summary! I myself saw this arc years and years ago...being a Goku/Chi-Chi fan, I liked seeing their early years together.

It was also nice to see Goku meet his grandfather again for the last time. (I guess, by bidding him farewell at this point, he didn't think of looking for him anymore when Goku himself died.)

Conan-san, the last line should be "preceded by" and not "proceeded" though. I would edit it myself but I'm too lazy to create a Wiki account. Eheh... ^^;

Thanks for the heads up, Kristi. I've fixed it and am very flattered my summary's been a good deal of insight. I swear I gotta get a gif image of Goku and Chichi practicing their reception dancing, that moment is priceless. XD

I remember, cartoon network believe it or not, showing the whole hot springs scene. Quick question though, was there a reason for this filler. I mean I know how they have filler for the anime to be in a good pace, but the tournament was already over. Were they taking time to make DragonBall Z or they did because they could..?

You can call me Rick because I'm not actually Piccolo.
I missed out on all of the DB Movie fun, huh?
Point blank: it's gonna suck if you want it to. Personally, I'm seeing it as a comedy.

Pair this filler with the first episode of DragonBall Z (almost completely Filler) and they would have been far enough behind the Manga to do the entire Raditz fight filler-free...which they did!

Thus, a good reason for filler, because I don't think the Raditz fight would've been very good in the Anime if it was filler'd out.

Hey Duo,I can't really add on to anything about the first episode of DBZ because to my memory, whichever version I saw had the Raditz fight all in one episode: the first. What kind of filler was there besides the whole Gohan being lost thing..?

I want to try the summoning thing at least one time... Bahamut! :P

Well, in the first english dub, most of the first episode is cut out, so you may not have seen it. I have the "Ultimate Uncut" DVD and Pioneers Deadzone (which features all the cut material as an extra...)

But, I think I'm going to pull a classic "There's a site, too?!" moment and give you this nice little link. It'll explain better than I would or could.
