Raging Blast 2 and Ultimate Tenkaichi were reviewed by two separate people at IGN (Anthony Gallegos and Richard George, respectively). They speak for themselves.

Thinking of it, the player character will be the biggest Mary Sue ever, destroying the villains with the main characters and all that.

Oh, god, I can already see the fanart.

I was way more impressed with the fall physics, spinning and back flipping in the air before hitting ground looks cool as hell.EA575 wrote:There are a couple of cinematic-like supers like this one: http://youtu.be/JA4j1FTLUk8?t=11m35s
On the subject of Ultimates something akin to raging blast where we're treated to a fancy scene of our opponent getting annihilated once the attack hits you is all I'm really asking for. But I guess since 3 vs 3 and maybe 6 man brawls as well having a cut scene like that might interrupt the gameplay. Then again though certain final smashes are cinematic and there're no complaints there as far as I know.
It's not too late. One day, it will be.

What about the 3 minutes tgs japanese trailer? Still no HD "non-cam" version yet?

It seems that there will be twenty-four stages in Xenoverse. There are only two from what I have seen so far in beta on a video.

Has anyone been able to judge what frame rate the PS3 version is running at?

Are different voices to select for your character, or is it just generic voices like DBO?
From what I've seen from the combat, I think it looks great. It's seems fast paced and while someone can button mash, I can see a skilled player wiping the floor with them. There also seems to be variety between characters and how they fight.
Still curious about how they do transformations for CaC.

I got a chance to go to the Tokyo Game Show yesterday and had a spare hour or so and so I decided to play the Dragon Ball XENOVERSE demo.
I went to the Bando Namco booth in Hall 4 and immediately saw a giant inflatable Shenlong towering over the showroom floor. After snapping a few photos I followed the signs that led me to the back of the line on the other side of the booth.

The wait time to play the game was only 40 minutes, which is pretty short considering that most of the big games at the Tokyo Game Show had two hour waits. The sign here states that you can either play single player or play two player with a friend. The friends I had come to the show with were all waiting in other lines at the time so I had to play single player.

As I waited a TV monitor above the line showed off trailers for the game. One trailer was the second one that's up on the game's official site. Another trailer, one that I haven't been able to find anywhere online, shows how you can teach various characters each other's moves. So, for example, everyone can learn how to use the Kamehame Ha, or everyone can learn how to use Taiyou-Ken. A teaser trailer for next year's Dragon Ball Z movie also played. Trailers for other games, like a One Piece dancing game for smartphones, also played.
Eventually my turn to play came up. The Bandai-Namco staff member asked me if I was there to play the single-player or two player mode. Once I told her that I was going to play single-player, she directed me to an open TV / PS4 set up. A laminated piece of paper on the stand in front of the TV showed which buttons performed which action on the PS4 controller. The staff member, upon seeing that I was a foreigner, flipped the paper over to an English translation of the same information.
The demo gives you the chance to play as either Goku, Gohan from the Nappa / Vegeta battle, Piccolo, Kuririn, Vegeta, and Raditz. There might have been one more character playable but I honestly don't remember. Once you pick who you'll play as you pick who you want to fight. I settled on Goku vs. Piccolo.
Next, you chose one of three stages - the Tenka'ichi Budoukai grounds, Kami's Lookout, or random rocky field. I chose Kami's Lookout.
A quick background: I have little to no familiarity with Dragon Ball video games. I played Legends and Dragon Ball GT Final Bout on the Playstation One back in the day and have played the demo of one of the PS3 games but that's really it as far as DB fighting games go. So unfortunately I won't be able to tell you guys how it compares to other (recent) games in the series and apologize for any n00b-ish comments I might make from here on out.
I managed to win both battles by basically button mashing. In the first match I spent most of the battle in the air underneath the lookout, randomly punching and firing off ki blasts while trying to figure out how the hell to navigate around in mid-air.
I had gotten my bearings by the time the second match came around and so things went a lot more smoothly. One thing I noticed was that when you move in close to perform a combo a list of commands would appear on the bottom right-hand corner of the screen. Up triangle will perform this move, forward circle will perform this move, etc. It reminded me a lot of what happens when you Summon something in Final Fantasy XIII, if that makes sense. With the help of these onscreen commands I was able to shoot Piccolo in the face with a Kamehama Ha and deliver a lot of damage.
There were also a few points in the battle where Piccolo's arms would stretch out and hit me from afar, which I thought was neat. Let's hope the game designers decide to give each character more character specific attacks like that.
When the two matches were finished a "Thank you for playing" message appeared on the screen, in English. I was directed out of the playing area and exited the booth.
On the way out I was handed a set of stickers as a "thank you" for trying out the demo. Pretty nice!

I'm not sure how much of this infromation is new or useful but hopefully there's something in my experience that will get everyone excited for the new game.

The thing is I already see people bashing this game on youtube, from none other than the Tenkaichi fanboys as they remind me who would rather a Namco scrap this in favour for a downgraded, inferior title that basically is no different in basic literal concept; over this game with actual innovation put into it. Sometimes I wonder why I'm even apart of the gaming branch. The most ridiculous of opinions overlap the actual critique and complimentary speak. Seriously, if people are bashing this game for once actually trying to give us everything we begged for even despite the ideal character creation and anime look being provided now after almost 10 years, I have no clue how Namco should take it. Just read the comments on IGN's videos, marketing is impossible with this fanbase sometimes.DonieZ wrote:But you don't get it though. The publishers are human beings with taste just like ourselves. They know what stands out and what doesn't, and they know what will sell more or less than DB Xenoverse. As of the current moment, if DB Xenoverse doesn't wipe the floor with RB and RB2's sales, then all it means is that many longtime fans have forgotten about either gaming or DBZ. Because there's no way in a million years that this game will not do well given the correct advertisement. Already I would bet you, given responses here, people who still follow DBZ games and haven't bought one in years, are getting this day one release, myself included! I may even get a collectors edition, something I haven't done before, because this shiz is worth it..

It's absolutely insane to see people bashing a game, that firstly, they haven't played yet, and secondly one that is actually trying to be innovative. I was one of the first people complaining when this game was first announced and I cast it aside as just another fighting game. Then came all of the reveals, new story, create a character, new villains, and I couldn't help but be excited. Then came the game play, and I'm looking at and asking myself what more can I really ask for? I mean seriously, the game mechanics look better than any DBZ game over the past 10 years with the addition of new features we've never seen; or at least implemented in this way. I just hope this mindless fan base doesn't ruin it for everyone, I am not a big fan of fighting games at all, and but obviously love the DB universe and have been playing the games off/on for years. From the litle I've seen so far, I can't see this game disappointing me.SingleFringe&Sparks wrote:The thing is I already see people bashing this game on youtube, from none other than the Tenkaichi fanboys as they remind me who would rather a Namco scrap this in favour for a downgraded, inferior title that basically is no different in basic literal concept; over this game with actual innovation put into it. I dont care what they say though because chances are they WILL buy the game anyway, its just annoying trying to find a decent discussion without this irrational perference-bias nonsense.
Also, they took what BoZ try to base their whole marketing campaign on, which was the 4v4 battles, and improved that aspect by leaps in bounds. I haven't played the beta, but the 3v3 battles did not look chaotic to me like the battles in BoZ. Plus you're not force to do battles that big. I mean this game looks great all around and the fact that you have people complaining and nitpicking already is ridiculous.

It's entertaining to see comments on gameplay videos saying that it looks like BoZ, when it looks NOWHERE from it. It also amuses me more when people along with Treevax and his lackeys are still worrying about the possibility of not having the "original" story mode. If they did that, the bashing would be either still there or ten times strong. It happened with BoZ when they showed the final fight of Namek and people complained that Krillin and Piccolo were there. Seriously, who gives a damn if this story is gonna be "unoriginal". Shit, I'd rather have them do a shitty fan fiction than have us play the same story for over a decade now. And they wonder why earlier games had a hard time evolving.
I think to a certain extent NB DOES listen to fan feedback, but to the wrong ones. Heck, I don't even know what other reason NB didn't continue with RB3 and did UT, BoZ, and this game other than listening to fan feedback, though like I said, to an extent. Even if this game fails, it'll still be better than all the other games we've had because of its innovation.

Honestly, the fact that people are still clamoring for a 25 year old story is mind boggling. We've had the story done over and over and over again. I just can't understand how people are unwilling to see the story grow and expand. And we are getting elements of the same story anyway, but now we can effect the way the story is handled. I don't mind people having opinions, everyone is entitled to one, but at least have some logic behind it. I find it fascinating that people want to play the same story mode on every game, unbelievable.

There is absolutely no way in a trillion years that this game is going to fail, given how much advertisement they put out with all these fresh and innovative features. They even went so far out as to have a beta testing for us to play around for a limited time. This has never happened before with a Dragon Ball game.
It's a reason why a lot of fans love to play Pokemon hacks, because they put out betas for us to check out and in turn have a feedback to them. With that, they are going to improve the story and gameplay.
With feedbacks from us, Dimps are going to improve on some stuff as they see fit before the release date, whenever that day is.

The game basically gives us everything Raging Blast & Ultimate Tenkaichi never let us do & player tested gameplay yet people want a BT4? To do what exactly? Spike couldn't give this to us with RB2 and UT. What would change?dualist wrote:It's entertaining to see comments on gameplay videos saying that it looks like BoZ, when it looks NOWHERE from it. They do listen, it just has to fit with the market demand. Though they don't make it clear but they do listen to coherent feedback depending on how doable it is to compensate for. People hate all the games usually few months after they come out for nowadays because they just arent the older ones they cant detach themselves from.dualist wrote:I think to a certain extent NB DOES listen to fan feedback, but to the wrong ones. This is evident that Namco does listen to an extent. Hopefully people use this as an opportunity to deconstruct the gameplay and provide rightful imput on how to balance it, the camera and how to deepen it. Not ask about GT or roster.DragonBalllKaiHD wrote:There is absolutely no way in a trillion years that this game is going to fail, given how much advertisement they put out with all these fresh and innovative features. People hated b2's story mode because it came right after b1's story mode, which will never be surpassed by any other dbz game. Ever.

Agreed, but I say it doesnt need to be. Imagine if every game had B1's exact storymode unchanged as people demand it to be. Every game would literally be the exact same thing, some people oddly want that while most would rather avoid it if they were smart. B1 is one of a kind for that. I dont know why people demand it be replicated, there are so many other areas to worry about than some meaningless storymode cutscenes.Nickolaidas wrote:People hated b2's story mode because it came right after b1's story mode, which will never be surpassed by any other dbz game. Oh, I agree. I'm just explaining why people (myself included) hated B2's story mode. Because it sucked balls in execution. It was evident they didn't have the time to make it, so they resorted to a lazy board-game (rolls eyes) way to make it work. The ideas were nice (Majin Frieza, cell-absorbed boo) bu the way the game played them was completely lazy.
Of course, deep down we knew that B2 couldn't make the same story mode in the same way, since it would basically be the same stuff with just the boo saga in the end.
Seriously, if there was an award for 'most half-assed Dragon Ball video game ever', Budokai 2 would be the winner.
If the Budokai games were made today, and if I was Bandai Namco, I would sell the boo cast/saga as DLC in Budokai 1, and Budokai 2 would be movies 1-6. Budokai 3 would be movies 7-13/14.
