Chiaotzu Appreciation Thread
You know, I hardly ever hear any love for this lil' guy. Sure he looks kinda creepy, and doesn't ever really accomplish much, but he's a really unique-looking character, with different abilities from the main cast, and he's got a fun fight with Krillin. So let's see what well-written and thought out points everyone can come up with about our favorite Chinese vampire-derived emperor of some far off country, who totally put Krillin in his place with his one hair.

Re: Chiaotzu Appreciation Thread
Chaozu is very under appreciated in my opinion, when he was first introduced I thought he was annoying, (though the bald jokes to Kuririn made me laugh) but at soon as the Piccolo Daimo arc came around I really started enjoying his character, plus I really enjoy how he interacts with Tenshinhan.

Re: Chiaotzu Appreciation Thread
Chaozu is the most useful fighter in the later arcs. While the other fighters are constantly making the situation worse and are in the negatives, Chaozu just remains at a positive zero. Mr. Satan is his only real competition.

Re: Chiaotzu Appreciation Thread
Well, according to Toriyama, he's an amazing chef and pretty rich. Also, while he never was strong enough to be useful, his Kaio training should have made him pretty damn strong by the non-insane standards of most of the universe. So he's apparently pretty great outside of his... "career" as a defender of Earth.
This is in contrast to Yamcha, who seems to be a loser in just about every way, not just fighting (no wife/long term girlfriend, had his girlfriend of many years stolen by the genocidal maniac who killed him because he couldn't keep it in his pants, he got fired from his job, he's seen cruising around the desert in GT...).
Also, what Kid Buu said. Though I'd say Elder Kaioshin, Kibito, and Trunks also have positive scores.

Oh, and he can survive in the vacuum of space. All this stuff is just presented as the way Freeza is, without even an attempt at rationalizing it, yet the tone dictates we're supposed to take all this silly grasping at straws as thrilling danger. So I guess I don't really take the power inflation in the Boo arc seriously, but I don't take the power inflation in earlier arcs seriously either, so there's no net loss of seriousness. I think a silly story presented as serious is harder to accept than a silly story presented as silly.

Wait, where did Toriyama say Chaozu was a great chef? I only remember an interviewer asking Toriyama who the best cook in the Dragon World was, and Toriyama saying Gyūmaō and Yamcha.

Yeah, I got him confused with Chaozu. So I guess there's one thing he doesn't suck at. But wasn't Chaozu said to be a great cook somewhere else? I'm having a hard time remembering.Kid Buu wrote:Wait, where did Toriyama say Chaozu was a great chef? I believe it was one of the filler episodes when he's living with Roshi. I seem to recall him cooking for Roshi and Oolong.RandomGuy96 wrote:Yeah, I got him confused with Chaozu. Yeah, I think Roshi called him a good cook in the TV Series version of the Cell Arc.

Re: Chiaotzu Appreciation Thread
Chiaotzu is one of those characters that gets brushed off too early in the series. He's one of the few Z fighters to have telekinetic/psychic powers that's pretty cool it kind of gave some diversity in their abilities. I enjoyed his interaction with Krillin they had an almost rival relationship at first, would of been neat to see that rivalry expanded. Plus he seemed to really get under Krillin's skin lol I feel like he made Tien seem more human. Tien was so cold and heartless and Chiaotzu seemed like the opposite but still you could see Tien having a soft side to him through Chiaotzu. His last great act was trying to take out Nappa to protect his friends and in my book if your willing to make a sacrifice like that your cool in my book. Also his role as an emperor in Mystical Adventure was pretty entertaining. Pretty mysterious overall we need to know more about his back story.

Re: Chiaotzu Appreciation Thread
Whenever we get a group shot of the main fighters and Chaozu's not in it (the second Kai ending, for instance), I get annoyed. It's like... c'mon, what harm could it do? He counts. I like seeing him included as "part of the gang."
I've always enjoyed Chaozu, and I'd have loved to see more of his techniques. It's great that they brought Hiroko Emori back to voice him for that one scene in the extended edition of "Battle Of Gods." I was sad that she didn't get to participate in the big cast reunion when the theatrical cut was being made, so that made up for it in a way. One thing I can't help but think of when I see him is that Goku only speaks to him once in the manga (when he congratulates him for making it to Kaio's planet alongside Piccolo and the others).
Here's hoping he gets a few more lines in the 2015 movie. How else are we ever going to see RanRan again?

Lmfao. It was too easy. I give Chaozu his props though. Didn't even hesitate risking his life just to do some damage in the Saiyan Arc. Looking out for Tenshinhan and saving his friends over his own safety, earns much respect.KentalSSJ6 wrote:Pffft...you ass.DarkPrince_92 wrote:Best Pokemon ever.

Re: Chiaotzu Appreciation Thread
Easily one of my favourite characters. Right up there with Goku, Tien and Yamcha. It pains me that for years Chiaotzu has been thrown to the wayside. I'm not saying I expect Chiaotzu to be the strongest character in the show by any means, but I just wish they'd kept him more involved. I mean, he could've been there for the Androids attack and done his bit, even if he hadn't been any good. He could've been present for the Cell Games and had a go against the Cell Jr.s. He survived Buu's Human Extinction Attack, so he could've turned up with Tien to help Dende and Gohan, but alas.
He has a lot of great moves, how good is that Dodon Ray!?
He has a lot of great abilities, that telekinesis and telepathy sure is useful.
He is brave, he knew he was the weakest but still gave his all trying to blow up Nappa.
He is dedicated as hell, despite not being all that strong, he never stops travelling with and traiing with Tien.
He is funny, his taunting of Krillin for being bald still makes me smile, as does he difficult with basic maths.

Re: Chiaotzu Appreciation Thread
Chiaotzu may not be strong by Z standards but I gotta hand it to him.
He went with Tien to fight Nappa & Vegeta even though Tien told him he wouldn't make a difference. AND he blew himself up just to try to hurt Nappa. I think he knew it wouldn't kill Nappa, but tried anyway.
He jumped out in front of Piccolo to make the wish for Piccolo to disappear, and was only 1 word away from getting the wish too.
Then, there's his fight with Krillin in the 22nd World Tournament. He can barely count and doesn't know his right from left.
