Majuub & Uubu; Naming Conventions

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

Majuub & Uubu; Naming Conventions

Post by future_trunks » Fri Sep 22, 2006 8:45 pm

I'm sorry if I sound like a total newbie if I ask this but, is Majuub really the correct name for the fusion between Uub and Buu?
Cuz you're an ocean, you're an ocean, settle down settle down what's the commotion?

In the Japanese version, he's always just been called Uub.

Personally, I would've found it hilarious if after they fused, they called him "Buub."
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

I find it easy to refer to him as Ubb and when he merges with Mr. Buu, I call him Ubbu or Super Ubb. Majubb makes he seem like even more of a freak.

You can call me Rick because I'm not actually Piccolo.
I missed out on all of the DB Movie fun, huh?
Point blank: it's gonna suck if you want it to. Personally, I'm seeing it as a comedy.

Er, actually Mr.Piccolo that would be "Uub", two u's, not b's.

Majuub does sound pretty stupid though. I would've preffered if Funimation had just stuck with calling him Oob, or if they wanted to go out on a limb, Majin Oob.

Okay, because on Wikipedia, Uub's page has Majuub all over it.

I keep changing it but, the other people are convinced they know everything :x

Oooh, I was just saying how I say it. So it is Uub..? Of course that's right... Well I prefer Ubb over Majuub anyday...

Wikipedia is a cess pool of idiots and misinformation. Abandon all hope of making a positive contribution there, the only thing they will allow there is dub refferences, and everything else is ignored.

Yeah, he still just Uub. It's kinda the same deal as when Piccolo merged with Kami, and asked to still just be called Piccolo afterwards.

And yes, I thought to call him "Buub," too. It's funny.

Maybe I'll draw this "Buub," some sort of Fusion-gone-wrong kinda concept pic.

It always sounds really unnatural after they fuse the way they call him "Majuub", too. It's just retarded. He's just Oob, but more powerful (supposedly, though he seems to get exponentially weaker as the story progresses).

It's even more ridiculous people are shooting for the usage of "Uubu" rather than Uub or Oob. These people and their fansubs. :(

You'd think if he did get his own name, Buub (Or Boob) would make the most sense. Cause you've got "Boo" and "Oob"

Ha ha, I loved the "KAMICOLLO" thing. That was class.

To be fair, I Uubu is the romanji spelling of Oob / Uub. And it sounds like Goku says Uubu. Though I think his name is supposed to be Boo said backwards, so that's how most enlightened people spell it.

To show what I mean better, here's the katakana of Boo and Oob.

ブウ (Buu)

ウーブ (Uubu)

You can see that the characters are just switched around. So really his name is just Boo said and spelled backwards. Uubu is just as technically correct as Torankusu or Seru, but romanji don't tend to give good indication on how names are actually pronounced in this show.

However, I have seen his name spelled Ubuu before. This is completely incorrect. His name isn't 'Buu' with a 'u' in front.

That's "buu", actually. That also explains the elongation in "u-bu".

Thanks. Fixed. His name is just "Boo" backwards by all counts, then.

I think that the name "Majuub" is kind of acceptable if you are going to put the fused and the unfused Uub apart. Otherwise, it's Uub

I'm all aware of that. My main gripe was how they used that spelling as his literal name, rather than how it's pronounced and translated from ウーブ. Nothing more ridiculous than hearing someone say in plain English "Uubu." Even worse, "Uub became Uubuu."

The sad thing about him is that he looked extremely cool and awesome but after half an epsiode he was just as weak as everyone else for the rest of the series.
Jord doesn't have a avatar because the combination of Jord and a equally cool avatar would cause the universe to implode.
