I'm pretty certain that Z requires you to complete the mission pretty much perfectly. You need to meet all the conditions ("secret" ones included, meaning triggering Goku or Gohan), take little damage, etc.

Go into first person by hitting left on the dpad and you'll see notifications on the map. Run on over to them till you see a exclamation mark and then you can supposedly pick pieces up.

Invest in basic attacks.
