I remember a year or more back when Funi had a survey asking which of the remaining Dragon Box DVD sets we'd like to be released next (which are the original Dragon Box, GT, and the Movies). I of course wanted the original. Now it's been a long time and no word.. did they just decided to not release any?
Would seem a waste considering 1) People, especially fans of the Japanese version, would buy them, 2) They supposedly already have the masters, 3) No one else sells them outside of Japan. Collector's value and all that.
I'm still hoping it gets released. Just when I thought Cardcaptor Sakura blu-ray or hell even a DVD-rerelease would never happen NIS America came along and saved the day, so maybe there is still hope!!
I'll have to use fan-translated Dragon Box DVDs until then

Sadly there still hasn't been any word on what we may get next. I would love to have the original series in DBOX format though!

You can be sure when word finely gets out you'll see it here fast!

The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128
Still recording Toonami broadcasts on VHS after all these years!

I kind of feel like that ship has sailed. We haven't seen a Dragon Box release since 2011. FUNi's current sales and marketing seems to push more towards to the HD Blu-Ray and HD streaming subscription nowadays.
I highly doubt we'll see more DBoxes, but if we do... it might be something like a super-limited run: only the amount pre-ordered will get it, for example.
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

Perhaps Aniplex could buy the rights to the dragon boxes and release super expensive subbed releases haha.
It is clear that sometime in Mark Satan's life, he acquired the dragon balls and called upon shenlong to grant him immortality.

I'd have paid big, especially for a release 1:1 of the Japanese edition (as in huge ass, all-in-one box)

This question pops up every few months but no, they've not said a word so don't get your hopes up.

Let's suppose Aniplex would release, Box 1 featuring episodes 001-040 for $300 and then the others for the same.. lol people would start complaining about the absurd prices and only a few would actually support it.
The problem here is that FUNimation has accustomed people to buying series for very affordable prices and then when something very precious gets released for $60 or more they go on a ramble ramble.
Dragon Ball Z Level Blu-rays were worth what they were originally priced at but yet again, they gave the customers the wrong impression.
FUNimation 2015 Releases I want:
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray

If they were doing to release more then they would do it by now. I give up hope for Funimation releasing the other boxes ages ago.

Considering the full 153-episode box cost ~$960 in Japan when it was new, that sounds like a pretty legit complaint.

There's already been a few DBOX related threads on FUNi's forums as well so by now it'd pretty much be like hitting a dead horse with a stick to post there (although the same can be said about this site as well).
If anyone has any of the DB/DBZ/DBGT or Maho Tsuaki Sally Japanese single DVD's that they'd be interested in selling send me a PM and I'll see if we can work something out.

This.
Everyone, not just FUNimation, is releasing things on BD nowadays. Or if not, then a BD/DVD combo. I don't think many companies release things on DVD-only nowadays.
Having another Dragonbox release, which is DVD-only and mastered in 480p, is very unlikely in 2014.. I still have a bit of hope, but I'm not holding my breath.
I at least want the movies in Dbox form, especially the two TV specials.

I think in 2016, Toei could do release blu-rays of the TV shows and movies for the 30th anniversary of the anime TV series.

If they do, I know for a fact it won't be subtitled. It'd be cool but kind of pointless unless you are fluent in japanese.

My dream would be the Dragon Boxes done in 1080p or 4k lol. The blu-rays may have a better resolution but I still prefer the Boxes, as I prefer the original Japanese version. Also, I still think Toei did a better frame-by-frame remastering than Funi ever did. Pony Canyon helped them

FUNimation did a better job remastering
Dragon Ball Z for their
Level Blu-ray release but it was canned sadly.

In my opinion, I thought the level sets were done rather poorly. Here's one tiny example:

My YouTube
Soppa Saiyjins from Dorgou Ballru Zetto is my favorite transformation everah, especially when Trounksoru did it in front of Seru and when Bejita did it when he faced Jingonigen-hachigo. But for real, I use the FUNi pronunciation. - Soppa Saia People

That's from episode 1. Episode 1 has
always looked significantly worse than the rest of the show on FUNi's releases, so it's clearly an issue with the source-material FUNi was working with. It's not like the Japanese release didn't also have
similar problems at times. Well, I mean, those episodes are far too
bright rather than being too dark, but still, same basic issue; Contrast-issues erasing detail.

I disagree while Toei's frame by frame remastering is very well done by early 2000's standards (when the DBOX"s were released) they're far from being perfect, there's still numerous problems Toei's frame by frame remaster have, some examples include wrong colors, episodes that are too bright, episodes that are too dark, splicing marks that haven't been cleaned up, film damage that wasn't cleaned up you get the idea, FUNi's Level remasters on the other hand have little to none of those problems in comparison so to say that Toei's early 2000's era DBOX remaster is better than FUNi's 2011 era level remaster just isn't factually correct.

Well Funimation could use their transfers if they do make new blu rays by 2016.
