Wishing people back before cleansing
Wishing people back before cleansing
So is there a time limit after all to bringing someone back to life? If the person is say an ordinary soul or bad, could it be possible for them to not be brought back if the soul was already cleansed? Could Shenlong or Porunga's power still bring them back and reconstitute the soul? Would Shenlong or Porunga state it as impossible?
Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!

I say no, because magical wish granting dragons shouldn't have to be bound to arbitrary fan rules.dbzfan7 wrote:So is there a time limit after all to bringing someone back to life? I'd be fine with such a rule being the case, but, until something says otherwise, then I choose to think otherwise. As I said in the other thread, I think it would just result in 2 beings having identical souls, because magic.

It doesn't make sense at all, that Shenlong or Porunga could do a thing like that. Once a soul has been cleansed and been giving a new body, they shouldn't be able to do anything about it.
It's just dumb.

Because magical wish granting dragons created by bipedal slug people are supposed to make logical sense?dbgtFO wrote:That's dumb.Kamiccolo9 wrote:I say no, because magical wish granting dragons shouldn't have to be bound to arbitrary fan rules.dbzfan7 wrote:So is there a time limit after all to bringing someone back to life? I tend to just think that the balls can grant any wish unless specified in the series. Nothing is ever said about it being limited to reviving people who have not been reincarnated.

Lame argument.Kamiccolo9 wrote: Because magical wish granting dragons created by bipedal slug people are supposed to make logical sense?
I already know most of Dragon Ball make no sense in the real world, however, when it comes to looking at if this proposed wish makes sense from an in-universe perspective, I have to say I think it's pretty dumb.
It wouldn't surprise me, if Toriyama would bypass such logic, but I'd still think it's a load of bull, like I do some of the other concepts introduced lately.

From an "in-universe" perspective, we've got a nigh-omnipotent wish granting dragon that can do whatever's asked from him unless otherwise said. As nothing as ever been said relating to this, I have no problem with it.dbgtFO wrote:Lame argument.Kamiccolo9 wrote: Because magical wish granting dragons created by bipedal slug people are supposed to make logical sense?

Re: Wishing people back before cleansing
The dragons can't even kill someone stronger than their creator because that exceeds their power. I'm willing to give some leeway for what wishes they can grant, but the whole soul thing isn't one of them in my opinion. So I'm going to place myself in the camp that says they can't revive a soul if it's already been reincarnated (or create a duplicate), unless future information addressing the issue says otherwise. Maybe DBZ2015 will do just that.Kamiccolo9 wrote:From an "in-universe" perspective, we've got a nigh-omnipotent wish granting dragon that can do whatever's asked from him unless otherwise said. That rule is somewhat iffy when it comes to bringing people back to life anyway, since, as far as we know, Kami and Dende can't revive dead people under their own power. As it stands, we know basically nothing about souls in Dragon Ball, so I don't really see why this is an issue.TheDevilsCorpse wrote:The dragons can't even kill someone stronger than their creator because that exceeds their power. Re: Wishing people back before cleansing
The limit on Shenron is that he cannot grant a wish that exceeds the power of the dragon balls' creator. There could be a wide range of potential wishes that would fall under this category, why would you just assume that the only ones that exist have been mentioned on-screen?Kamiccolo9 wrote:Because magical wish granting dragons created by bipedal slug people are supposed to make logical sense?

Obviously Dende/Kami cannot do all of the things the dragon could do. If they could the dragon balls would be meaningless. My take on it is that the dragon balls are a catalyst for Namekians to channel their powers and amplify their innate magical abilities. (Sort of like Harry Potter and his wand.) In that sense, it is still based on the power of the creator but would also explain how Shenron's extraordinary feats are possible. Your attitude seems to be "If a story has any inconsistencies, then all logic gets thrown out the window and every opinion is equally valid".

This isn't an inconsistency. Nothing is ever said regarding this kind of wish. You are laying out rules where none are said to exist.Kroni_Hunter wrote:Your attitude seems to be "If a story has any inconsistencies, then all logic gets thrown out the window and every opinion is equally valid".

Re: Wishing people back before cleansing
The Namekians created the Dragon Balls as a tool that allows them to use the full extent of their magical power, like a focusing lens. If they could use the full extend of their magical power without the dragon balls, there would be no point at all in creating them. As such, the dragon balls don't go beyond their magical power, they just allow them to tap into their full extent.Kamiccolo9 wrote: That rule is somewhat iffy when it comes to bringing people back to life anyway, since, as far as we know, Kami and Dende can't revive dead people under their own power. So, it doesn't sound iffy to me. At least not based on that argument.
