Clock Problems

Post by PsyLiam » Mon Apr 05, 2004 8:58 pm

(for lack of anywhere else to put this...)

Since we went to British Summer Time last week, the time's here have been one hour out. This is an outrage. Sure, I pretend to live in Paris. I could just add an hour onto the times. I could just wait for the US to get around to Daylight Savings Time.

But I shouldn't have to, damnit.

Grrr.

Go to your profile and add an hour down where it says "Timezone."

That is all.

Time pisses me off. I say it should be the same time everywhere, and it's just that, say, 4AM here would look way different on another part of the Earth.

...So, yeah.

Well the time's off here in Canada too right now. So at least you're not alone Liam.

Yeah, that's what I've done. But it's now set to GMT +1, when I'm clearly GMT. I could drive to the bloody line in about 30 minutes.

Stupid Americans and their world ruling ways.

Does Canada change time with us then, rather than with the US?

Yes we do. See? Another reason to like us better! :D And Liam, what I suggest trying in the profile is just moving the little GMT times until your posts match with what time it is currently for you. Use you latest post as a reference. I once had a similar problem in that my clock was reading "a.m." when it should have read "p.m." and vice versa, I played around with GMT selections until it matched up. Trust me, it works. :)

Yeah, I got it to work at GMT +1, but as I said, that's plainly wrong. I can SEE Grenwich from here.

If I got on the roof.

And used a telescope.

Maybe.

This hasn't been the most productive thread ever, has it? Sorry.

It's things like this that makes me wish I wasn't a stupid American. :( What's with this daylight savings, anyways? I've always thought it was dumb. I went to Ireland before, and it didn't get dark until 11:00 P.M.
Yes... I am... but you don't know that...

Actually the first country to put Daylight Savings Time into practice was Germany.

Daylight Savings is a way of maximising the number of hours of daylight we get, by making sure that the sun rises and sets at times that are most convenient to the largest amount of the population.

And, er, Ireland doesn't get dark at 11:00 pm over the entire year, y'know.

I feel a bit silly for asking this but...did you seriously not know that?

(And why do I feel guilty about ever saying anything even remotely mean to Mochi? It must be that damningly cute avatar.)

Or that dammingly cute personality, signature, use of smileys...

I should be paid to compliment people.

It's because she's a really sweet 15 year-old girl, you big, mean man you! :P And I always assumed we used Daylight Savings Time for agricultural purposes.

That's the story, but since 90% of the population aren't farmers, it doesn't really make much sense to me. Besides, will said farmers end up being unable to function in society if they have to get up an hour earlier than everyone else for 6 months?

I really don't know, but I've always thought it didn't make sense either. I guess it's just one of those antiquated habits that will never change and shows how stupid the human race is at times. :?

How do you mean? That skimmed milk is an antiquated habit, or it shows how stupid the human race is?

It shows how stupid the human race is. Semi-skimmed milk tastes fine, and has significantly less fat than full cream. But people will buy skimmed milk, which has about 1% less fat than semi-skimmed, and which tastes like piss, because they think it'll actually make their diets healthier.

Idiots.
