Jump Ultimate Stars Help
So I just got in my copy of Jump Ultimate Stars today, and while I haven't started playing it just yet, I wanted to ask around and see if I could get a little help on a few things that might help me out.
1) Is there any fully translated guide somewhere? I've found one that more or less tells me how to unlock things and what certain things on the menu are that I otherwise wouldn't be able to figure out, but has anyone ever put together something saying what all the dialogue options in the game mean, or what the overall storyline (assuming there is one) is? I know I don't really need that to play the game, but it would heighten the enjoyment somewhat.
2) Just out of curiosity, maybe someone can explain this to me. The DS is region free, right? Does that mean the system, or it's games? Because when I popped this game into my DS, it wouldn't play (or even register it was in the system for that matter). But when I popped it into my 2DS - which is supposed to be region locked so far as I knew - it plays just fine. The heck?
3) And just as an outlier, does anyone have any particular advice about the game in general that I feel I should know?
Any advice/help will be greatly appreciated!

The DS is region free, the game should work fine on it. The 3DS is region locked for 3DS games but not DS games.
I dunno if anyone knows what's being said in the story but from what I can tell it's all Dr.Mashirito's fault.
As for tips I'd say it's best to try and complete all the missions in the stages (follow the guide) to unlock all the different Koma's and use a variety of characters types to earn many different type of gems to evolve your Koma's

Re: Jump Ultimate Stars Help
Weird, I wonder why it didn't want to work on my DS then. But ah well - I use my 2DS almost exclusively now anyway, so it all works out for the best.
I've actually been making my way through the game so far without the guide, but now that I look through it a bit more, it does still leave a bit to be desired. Is there a list anywhere of exactly what needs done to clear each mission? There have been a few where I've just kind of stumbled into what needed done (there was at least one where I had to just survive long enough; another where I had to destroy the borders around the level; and one where I had to collect more money than Nami), so knowing a bit more of what I'm doing there might make this a bit easier too.
Also, I've been messing around with the koma a bit, but so far the only ones I can actually get to do anything are the ones that take up more than one square. The one-panel ones don't seem to really do anything. I also can't seem to play as anyone other than Naruto or Luffy yet, but I'm far enough along now that I would have thought I'd have unlocked someone else playable by now. Looking through the guide and other sites, I can't even find a place that says how to unlock Goku, for example...so am I missing something somewhere about how to switch characters to take into combat with me?

Re: Jump Ultimate Stars Help
GameFAQs is your friend. The completed walkthrough at the top of the page contains a list of translated goals for the missions. Pretty sure that's the same one I used to get through the game's "story" mode years ago. There's also individual guides for every character that will explain how to unlock them.
As for building your deck/page/whatever, the capabilities of the characters is determined by the number of panels. It's been a while, but I'm pretty sure one-panel characters are just stat-boosters, two- and three-panel characters are support (tap them and they'll jump in and do something), and characters with four or more panels are actually directly playable. The more panels, the more powerful the character will be.

Re: Jump Ultimate Stars Help
That guide is a lot better than the one I was using, so many thanks Kaboom!
And with it's help, I've been blazing through the game quite a bit now. Finally figured out how to use other characters (I hadn't gone into the upgrade menu and upgraded any of the koma to where they could be battle ones, oy), and I've gotten quite a few strong fighters on my side now. This is definitely a fun game, and I swear there's some things here that remind me a lot of what I saw in the J-Stars trailers. They weren't developed by the same studio were they?

Re: Jump Ultimate Stars Help
No, Garbarion did the Stars games while Spike did J-Stars.

Ahh, all right. Maybe it's all in my head then, but I swear certain things about the combat here really take me back to those J-Stars trailers.
