After weeks upon weeks of resisting, I have finally bitten the bullet and registered for the forum! I'm telling you, this week's podcast just compelled me to do it!
Long time listener, first time poster, perhaps you saw me out of the corner of your eye while at Otakon or (most recently) AWA. Yeah, I'm *that* guy. The one that JBone likes to make disparaging remarks about on another certain message board. I actually entered my Spriggan video for AnimeNEXT last year, and I was surprised when I found out that video was in a 3-way tie for 2nd place. I'm a great admirer of your AMVs.
Anyway, about AWA... I felt uncharacteristically shy at AWA, especially around other editors, but the weekend was all good. I myself bought a bunch of stuff at AWA in the dealer's room, not the least of which were a bunch of DBZ DVDs. I am in possession of Movies 7-13 (I already got 7 & 9, the Broly 3-pack I got for $20, and 12 & 13 for $17 each), as well as the Trunks DVDs (103-105 and 106-110). Again, your podcast compelled me to buy them!
I think I mentioned quickly at Otakon that this podcast has made me appreciate DBZ a lot more. This is coming from someone who superficially hated DBZ! I discovered at AWA that a lot of other people still love DBZ. They might not be as obvious as you and Meri are, but they still love DBZ. One person regaled to me stories about how he found DBZ one day during college while flipping through channels, and how he and his frat buddies eventually made DBZ appointment television at 5:30 every day.
You also mentioned some wonderful fan you picked out for one of the AMV games during Iron Editor. He actually found me after Iron Editor and we chatted for a good 20-30 minutes. His name is Nick and he lives in Florida. This was his first convention for him, and he was so stoked to have been chosen for the AMV game. You asked him, "So what do you wanna win?" And Nick answered "EVERYTHING!" and right there and then you chose him. That was so cool. He really has been a fan of your site (and Meri's site) for many, many years. I'm hoping Nick also becomes a member of this website too.
In closing, AWA was a blast for the most part. It was a bummer after the con to discover that everybody's planes got delayed getting out of Atlanta. Mine didn't leave until 1am. AWA, however, will still be on my "must-go-to" list of conventions; I've already pre-registered for next year and reserved my hotel room.
You made a great podcast this week, as usual. I hope this podcast will compel others out there like me to come out of the woodwork and finally join the forums. Keep up the excellent work.
