How would the series be different without Goten?

Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.

Goten was overshadowed by both kid Trunks and Gotenks during the Buu arc and didn't have much time to develop as his own distinct character. I personally wouldn't want to see him disappear from a hypothetically rewritten Buu arc completely, but I wish he had a more interesting design at the very least.

It really wouldn't be a total shift at all when I try to see through it, only less action figures to sell. Goten's character design seemed like a push to get fans nostalgic of Kid Goku to get a little more engaged after Cell (I don't know how that Saga was received in Japan, but it made a lot of fans I know lose a bit of interest). That's just a theory, but much closer to a fact with what they did to Goku in GT.

Well, In-Universe answer would be that Goku probably would have killed Fat Buu, since there wouldn't be a fusion partner available for Trunks.

He does in EOZ but sadly what we see is next to nothing and nobody seems to wanna revisit that period. Hell even in Heroes, we got EOZ pan and SSJ1-3 Goku in his EOZ outfit yet EOZ Goten and Trunks are untouched.

I doubt he could have.

Fat Buu at his strongest was Super Buu level, and Super Buu was beyond SSJ3 Goku.

I'm pretty sure he tells Vegeta he could have killed Fat Buu but didn't because he wanted the kids to fight.

SSj3 Goku was kicking Fat Buu's ass pretty hard from what I can remember. Goku would have blown Fat Buu away at full force.

No funny moments with Trunks and Goten. No Gotenks. That's about it...

I like Goten as a character but the series could have been different in a few ways but I think the biggest thing is Trunks wouldn't have a counterpart and become irrelevant like all of the human characters or likely be changed in order to play a significant role in the series.

-Trunks may develop a relationship with Gohan more similar to their alternate timeline. Maybe a rivalry to become stronger than Gohan to have his father acknowledge him.

-Maybe Trunks would play a role in Babidi's ship

-The entire world becomes DOOMED because SSJ3 Goku isn't aware of the power buu possesses. He could have bursts that are Super Buu strength, somehow become Super Buu.

-Buu could run out the clock and Goku can't fight anymore, has to get revived with the Dragon Balls, can't stay in SSJ3 as long?

Goten seems pretty important, at least as a stall.

Unrelated to the actual TV series the second Broly movie could have had Vegeta in it to help or not even exist maybe a Gohan Trunks Story..

Maybe there wouldn't be a Bio-Broly movie
