Revival of F Trailer [Fandub]

I wanted to dub the trailer as soon as a translation was out. Mugen and Ryusuke actually had their lines in over a week ago. Couldn't find a decent time to record 'til today. Hopefully the audio mixing is decent. Also still trying to make my Goku and Freeza sound more different from each other. I used [F] by Maximum the Hormone, the song that inspired the title of the movie, as replacement music since the music is either part of the next movie or just generic trailer music.

Voices:
xXInfinite026Xx: Piccolo
ConfusedPhantom: Vegeta
SSJ4 Furanki: Goku/Freeza

Enjoy!

xXInfinite026Xx sounded really good. Throwing in the J-metal was a good touch.

Yeah! He's amazing at taking what sounds good with a Sabat Piccolo impression but putting his own spin on it.

Wish the acoustics of the only place I can currently record weren't so iffy. It makes Goku/Freeza sound more 'echoy'/spaced out than the rest. Which isn't far off since it's a huge wide open room.

Tried putting in Only a Chilling Elegy and it didn't fit the trailer anywere near as much as [F] did.

You've got that Freeza laugh down pretty well.

I felt like it could have used a few more lines thrown in there as the pauses were a little awkward. I don't recall how the original sounded tbh but even if the Japanese one didn't have much dialogue I still would have taken liberties with it anyway. Screw being faithful, it's just a trailer.

Will have to consider that for the future, as far as lines go, they're all the same length as the original Japanese line. But, you do have a point. It's not a full blown dub where the dialouge matters. Actually I think it was stated all the dialouge in the trailer was made just for the trailer.

Glad I got the laugh down as least, haha!

Yeah! I'd genuinely believe that if everything falls in line for him, I think he easily could be a pro VA if he had the right resources.

I may re-record Freeza and Goku once my new mic comes in, also once my laptop's power source comes in so I can record in my own room instead of the huge, open office/family room. So it doesn't sound so echoy.

Good Freeza laugh, awful Vegeta, and different sounding Goku is what I think of this clip.

Whew, glad you like the laugh. Did multiple takes on it before I felt I got it right. I like his Vegeta, but that's pretty much implied since I cast him. But, doesn't help that Vegeta probably got stuck with the most generic dialouge out of everyone in the clip. With Goku, the way I've been doing it is mainly Nozawa influenced, but there are minor hints of Schemmel Goku influence, that I like to throw in there. Hopefully 'different Goku' in a good way, if not I plan on doing more with Goku. Angry Goku is something I've been attempting to work on as most clips done with Goku have been the silly/non-chalant ones.

Yeah, that was pretty much a perfect Piccolo. Besides sounding like Sabat, it was fantastically delivered.

Your Freeza laugh is fantastic but I really dislike the speaking voice. It sounds far too soft rather than calm but menacing. The transition between the hissed line at the end and the speaking prior to it was far too incongruous. Definitely consider amping up the maniacal side of Freeza's normal speaking voice. Maybe take a look at the nuances of Hamill's Joker and the best parts of Ayres' Freeza. They really sound like they're constantly on the edge despite being very calm. This is something I've felt with your previous performances of the character too. It's almost there but not quite.

Goku has real potential but I don't think the peaking microphone during the scream helped that much. Equipment aside, I think you need to work on making him sound believable. I can hear the nuances of the character in the voice and performance but they're too strong. It sounds like 'I UNDERSTAND GOKU'S CHARACTER - HE'S A DUMB HICK WHO LOVES FIGHTING! LISTEN TO IT!!' rather than a strong, natural performance that conveys those traits with real subtlety and finesse. Work on toning it down and I think you'll be great

I have to side with sangofe - I'm sorry, ConfusedPhantom, I really dislike your Vegeta in this clip. It doesn't feel like the character nor does the delivery impress me. You don't have to sound like Drummond, Sabat or Horikawa but it needs something. I don't know what precisely. To me, you're miscast entirely. Unfortunately, I have to say it's the weakest part of the trailer.

But yeah, I look forward to seeing how this develops onwards. I've probably been quite brutal but keep in mind, I fucking hate most fandubs so take solace in the fact that underneath all this criticism, I hear real potential and the only reason I'm harsh is because I want this to be the best it can be. :)

I welcome the brutal criticism, don't usually hear it or when I do it's the usual "lel die feg'. I myself usually try not wtach most fandubs of Z. Usually they try too hard to copy FUNi, there are exceptions.

Freeza: It's actually more comfortable to speak with the more menacing tone when voicing both Goku and Freeza). They come from a similar pitch despite playing them differently. Will definitely take the main points into consideration. Have a new mic shipping this very minute along with a pop filter. Further recordings should sound better at least sound quality wise.

Goku: Yeah, I may try to drive the point home a tad too much in my Goku voice. Will take that critcism into mind next dub I do. Will tone it down a bit. Do something in between that and my real voice. Although if I tone it down, it may just sound like my real voice.

Vegeta: I cast him based on his tone reminding me of the original rather than having an exact same sounding voice. I enjoy it, but, hm. We're working on a dub of Vegeta's death. So, maybe with more emotions in it, it'll give a better idea of how he sounds in it.

Yeah, I agree, I'm not happy with it either. My read was really bland. I dunno if my other takes were as bland, but this was picked, so I can't really imagine my others being any better. I needed much more oomph and I should've spent much more time with it. Can't remember if I wish in a rush for this (I probably was), but I'll do better next time around.

Sounds good, my friend! I can't wait for you to get the new mic and get your new charger so we can get rid of those acoustics, though. I'm also glad that everyone likes Mugen's Piccolo! Out of all the fandubbers I know, he's the one who deserves to go pro the most.

Actually just got the mic in today. May borrow my brother's laptop while I'm out at my Mom's with better acoustics and do a quick Goku/Freeza dub to work on what Ajay pointed out on.
