Dragon Ball
YuYu Hakusho
Ruroni Kenshin
One Piece
Naruto
Bleach
Hunter x Hunter
Toriko
Saint Seiya

Those franchises aren't getting any cuts I'm sure.. And I only care about the first three titles I mentioned.

Hopefully Yugi makes it's in, somehow, someway.
It's not too late. One day, it will be.

Didn't bobobo-bo bo-bobo get a dub at one point and aired on Toonami during it's original run?

The recent confirmation (at least according to Siliconera) that the game isn't getting any English voice overs makes me sad, due to Richard Epcar's amazingly hilarious Bobobo and Kaiji Tang's superlative Kenshiro. I like a lot of English voice actors and their roles as these character but those two are my pick of the litter of characters in this game.

All I want is as much of my top ten Jump Manga series represented as possible. So keep Fist of the North Star, Dragon Ball, Saint Seiya, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, Yu Yu Hakusho, Rurouni Kenshin, Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo, and Toriko in.

While I never got a chance to get into it, I'm still sad Kinnikuman didn't get any representation.

All series licensed by Viz will most likely remain, which should suffice for most of us (I know it does for me).

Which raises the question: what about Hokuto no Ken, Kochikame, Kuroko's Basketball and To-Love Ru? All of those series have quite a large fanbase. Will Western audiences have to do without them? Personally, out of all those, Kochikame is the only one I'd be sad to see go, but I'd also like for Hokuto no Ken and To-Love Ru to be kept in.

While the manga never got a full release here, Discotek put out all of Fist of the North Star on DVD here, and we've had some games here too.

Due to licensing issues, Bandai Namco has stated that not all of the Japanese release characters will be seen internationally, though they didn't specify who would be cut.
Just wanted to make one thing clear. While Super Saiyan Prime's translation is pretty good, he forgot to translate one very important word (the one in bold). The original Brazilian text does not say that not all of the characters will be available, it says not all of them MAY be available. Licensing may still come into play, but they may pull a lazy one and just leave them all in just so they won't have as much trouble. Just hope the Arcade Mode isn't indeed a mere substitute for the original Story Mode.

Then again, the wording may just be them trying to sugarcoat it.
Thanks for the correction. I've updated that post.

It would actually be lazier for them to remove any characters they'd have to talk to legal to get. Getting approvals from the companies that have ownership over these properties in the western world won't be easy.

Should have been expected given the teaser trailer was in Japanese but having it dubbed would have been awesome.

I can just imagine the amount of Dragon Ball Z fans who are going to mute the TV when playing as Goku. :P

True, but I'm assuming, since this is the first time a crossover fighting game has made it West (especially one with these many licenses), they probably have some kind of special licensing deal. Either that or they just spent the 9 months between the Japanese release and the Western announcement getting all the approvals, but that would probably be way too expensive to be feasible.
Super Saiyan Prime wrote:(Notice how they never confirm the roster's size or specific characters outside of DON)
Also true, but they do mention "an incredible roster" and "a huge choice of characters". If they took out too many characters, the fanbase would be all over them, foaming from their mouths. If the story mode is confirmed, then no major characters will get cut. If any franchises get the axe, it'll be the minor, more obscure ones.

Namco Bandai UK is one of the sources of the original Kanzenshuu news post. Even if it just came out on either Europe or the US, none of the 3 consoles have region-locking, so you could easily import it.

Wow, it's so rare that I find myself in the Video Game section!

I really don't have anything to do besides mirror everyone else's surprise. I would have never expected this in a million years. Hooray! I'm already over the moon knowing that we'll get getting the original Japanese voices. If the game makes it over here without any music edits or other significant changes, I'm sold. They'd have to try really hard to make me pass on this one.

I'm still wondering what they may add in terms of characters and stages.

Some love for Yu-Gi-Oh!, Kinnikuman, Ring ni Kakero, etc would be grand.

Plus additional characters for the series that only have one would be great (and since they do have data somewhere in the original, I'm down for Jotaro and DIO).

I'd fucking love it if they bumped Rukia up to playable status, but I don't know how likely it is. Is it confirmed that we're actually receiving new characters?
I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!

As far as additional characters go, I really doubt it since any additional ones would likely be characters that a US audience by and large would recognize...but man what I wouldn't give for Wingman to be added. Or have Ai Amano as a support character. Or even Junta Momonari/Mega Playboy for crying out loud. We need some kind of Katsura representation here darn it!

Considering Reborn!'s english manga was cancelled and the Anime was never licensed, could Tsuna be cut? I doubt it as he is a important part of the story. Gon & Killua better not be cut. I would only think support only characters could be cut or hopefully a few upgraded to playable, like Hisoka, Rukia & Allen. I'm intregied to see what they do. Could the leaked characters found in the game code be in the game? I hope so just cause Dio. Yugi/Atem would be a great addition due to Yu-Gi-Oh!'s popularity in the west, especially with the new movie just announced. I hope the upgrades warrant the + in the title.

I'd hold off on any speculation about additional characters until this is announced for a Japanese release. Series like Yu-Gi-Oh!, Kinnikuman and Shaman King are popular in Japan ...

While the cast is considerably smaller (and thus Bandai Namco's job is even harder) Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom is the best example of a licensed Japanese crossover fighter heading to the west. It didn't sound like it was an easy localization.
