Watching DB series Japanese (1st time) COMPLETE

So I ran through a butt load of episodes since my last post. The entire Tenshinhan Arc. One of my favorites.

It was fun to watch Tenshinhan be a complete asshole, forgot he aspired to be like Tao.

A lot of great animated moments. Can really see how emphasized martial arts movements were back in Dragon Ball days. Yamcha vs. Tenshinhan, Goku vs. Krillin, Tenshinhan vs. Chun, and Tenshinhan vs Goku were for the most part great to watch (minus Ebisawa's episodes of crap).

As I read through the subtitles, I can tell that Funimation for the most part stayed true to the original minus a few gags or jokes that might have not been kid appropriate.

Choazu... is fucking weird. Watching him operate is creepy, and funny at the same time.

I was not aware that the Kikoho was that powerful, enough to completely destroy Goku, allegedly. Would that mean in terms of power Tenshinhan was stronger?

Also... fuck the announcer. I thought in fighting sports, the count doesn't stop until someone is on their feet in a fight stance. He either forgets to count, or stops if someone's pinkie moves while they're sprawled out on the floor. I forgot how annoyed I was at him.

Anyway, the Arc ends with Krillin, and some dude, murdered. Onto the King Piccolo Arc.

It's not like Chaozu's in the manga that much after the 22nd World Tournament anyway.
He get's beat by Tao off screen in the 23rd Tournament, and only appears to see Tien after Piccolo. Then in Z, all he does is pretty much blow himself up.

So I don't think it's accurate to say he wasn't really interesting because he wasn't in the manga enough after that to actually be interesting.

Not the issue. He has more material in the anime. It may not be big fights, but he's often there in scenes, and he lacks personality. Even with a small amount of screen time you can still be interesting and make an impression.

So, 2 episodes in the Piccolo Daimao Arc. I've gotta say it was pretty chilling. Piccolo's voice, Tambourine's voice (Nakao?) are too cool. Piccolo sounded PISSED, and his interaction with Pilaf and Co. made it even better. It's definitely the point in the series where there's a serious tone shift. I'm loving it.

Showdown! Son Goku vs. the Young Piccolo Daimao. A lot has happened since my last post.

Not sure how accurate my subs are, but during Goku and Piccolo Daimao's first interaction, Goku called Piccolo "slug shit" after Piccolo said he was "___shit". Can't remember. That sound right to you? Or is it another fansubber putting a spin on things as usual? Don't even remember what was said in english.

Piccolo is hilarious. Every 5 minutes... "Denshi Jar!" . Pilaf and Co. were muscled out of their own aircraft. They can't do a damn thing about it.

Anyway, a lot of great moments animation-wise. Surprisingly enough, it was mostly from Last House. Then studio Junio did an awesome job on the last episode I just watched. Goku never looked so fearsome until he fought Drum. Awesome.

Question. The Super Spirit... Special Awesome whatever water... drew out how much of Goku's power? How much did Goku have hiding?

I'm almost there guys. Piccolo Daimao is done with, and Goku's training for the next one. Forgot how martial arts heavy Dragon Ball was. Goku's training with Popo was interesting. A lot of emphasis on being discreet with one's Ki and stamina usage during a fight, and also ways to "see" your opponent without seeing them. Loving it. Now onto the 23rd Budokai.

Accurate. Funimation DVDs said the same. Goku was REALLY pissed off.

And done. Finished Dragon Ball. I know it's been a minute since I updated. It was a fun ride. The 23rd Budokai was always fun to watch, seeing what new developments our favorite characters had. I knew Goku was a step above the rest, but not to that degree. He dealt with Tenshinhan, fired a Super Kamehameha and was no where near tired. A little refreshing not hearing Sabat play Piccolo there, because it sounds nothing like the Piccolo in Z or Kai, it's as if he fused with Vegeta. The part where Goku fed him the senzu bean and got up, was unintentionally hilarious. Rose up with the quickness lol.

Anyway, I pretty much enjoyed all of it, and especially Goku's little adventure with his new wife. It was cute. Before I watch all of the films subbed, time for GT. Yes... GT. It's happening. I'll let you know how it goes.

This is for the original. But, yes, in the dub Sabat plays both King Piccolo and Junior.

Well I've begun. Trying really hard to keep an open mind.

First thing I noticed was the music. I love the theme song, but the OST for the rest of the show seems... off for me. It definitely does it's job as far as setting the tone, but it sounds a little generic and not really... Dragon Ball if that makes sense.

The proportions on some characters, are all over the place. What the hell is going on. Pan goes from age 6 to 10 from scene to scene. It's crazy. Chins are larger, heads are bigger... I'm lost.

Also, I forgot the whole reason why they had Black Star Dragon Balls in the first place. I honestly do not remember Kami creating a set of them before he expelled his evil side. I feel like the writers could have gone in a different direction with that. So now the world blows up if they don't find them within a year. Interesting.

Oh and uh... Vegeta's design... is pure ass chips.
