Goku Test (New Mic)

Wanted to see how the new mic would handle a scene like this. So I dubbed this line from DBZ: BoG to test it out.

Thanks! Glad you liked it! How's the audio quality sound itself outside of performance?

It seems fine for the most part. Part of me kinda thinks there's some weird distortion at "enjoy" though that might be a reverb or something that you put.

Great screaming! I think you might need to get a little closer to your mic, though. It sounds like you kinda backed off to avoid peaking, but as a result the acoustics of the room are picked up and you sound kinda far away. I find that turning down the audio input volume during screaming scenes helps prevent peaking without having the disadvantages that come with backing away from the mic.

Can you send me the raw .WAV file? I'd like to try something.

That seems to be the case, I'd did reverb it since the scene is in a cave and I wanted to try to correct some of the acoustic issues.

I did do what you said. I actually turned the audio input completely down, the recording was even louder than the final result.

There are 2 320k Stereo .mp3s, I actually recorded a Kiai for when Goku breaks out of the rocks, but wasn't 100% sure about it so I cut the test down to just the line (do plan on practicing those, they're the toughest part in my opinion). So, there is a little compression, but nothing too bad. I always save my .mp3s with the highest possible setting.

What mic did you buy and what do you use to record? Audition, Audacity, Pro Tools etc. ?

Had to listen to it twice to make out what was being said. I don't think that particular scene is the easiest to dub.

CAD u37, seemed like a solid choice when I don't have a bunch of money right now, and Audacity.

That's weird. It usually works for me. Either way, screaming scenes suck because of peaking.

Where are you adjusting the input levels? In Windows or Audacity itself?

Also, when you scream, are you screaming into the mic or turning your head?

Usually in Audacity and most of the time I yell right in the direction of the mic.

Try adjusting the input volume in Windows and scream behind the mic rather than into it.

This is the best I could get out of it in about 15 mins in Audition. I think with no distortion and a more elongated scream at the end, it'd be damn great.

Still sounds better than how I originally did it! May have to take you up on that offer. Usually don't have problems with recording but I'm not the best editor out there by any means.

I can't act for shit but I do enjoy directing and editing. Always considered asking a bunch of you guys if you'd be interested in doing a scene or two.

I'd love to do something along those lines. I tend to enjoy the script adaptation and voicing aspects more. Don't hate editing, but it shows in the end result that I'm not the best at it.

May do the whole scene in the cave. Just to test this idea out.

Room acoustics seem to be an issue.

This was a powerful scream, but I don't think the voice fits Goku.

Probably, this is more or less my real voice and I was trying to adjust my Goku based on the comments Ajay left on the Revival of F trailer.
