What makes Kai so special ?

To some it may be the fact that it's pretty on point to the manga, to others it maybe the fact that there is less filler and to other it maybe the visuals. To me what makes Kai so special is the voice acting. Obviously at this point the cast has gotten so much better at what they do which is what makes it so great, it shows growth! They established their voices for their characters. Gohan and Bulmas voices took some time to grow on me but I can say I've honestly come to love them. They seem to fit quite well if you ask me. Chris Sabats vegeta is incredible, and Sean's goku is amazing. I think what they have done over all with Dragon Ball Kai was amazing in almost every way.

P.S I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT THE KAI THAT WAS FOR NICKTOONS lol

Kai is special to me because it's the only English version of the show that I can recommend to other people. If it weren't for the early censorship and the poorly-redrawn visuals I would have no reservations proclaiming it better than Z in every way.

It's not 4Kids bad but it was enough to spark the horrendous rumours that Kai was over-censored and for very young kids.

No blood, no mention of dying etc etc.

I believe Toonzai took it a step further and invented Blue Popo.

- Multiple composers, versions and music placements to dissect ! TBH, I don't know if we should thank or curse Kenji Yamamoto about this.
- Great remaster & color correction.A special mention goes to Dragon Ball Kai Buu Saga : The Matrix Edition.
- And, simply, it's much closer to the manga.I strongly hate fillers so, Kai is a gift from the gods to me.

It's enough of a difference bro, it's not as bad as 4Kids OP but it's still pretty bad.

The Nicktoons edits are pretty much exactly the same as the Saban era Ocean dub edits since they both used digital paint to cover up blood and other stuff (eg Gohan's willy in the Ocean dub and Popo's skin in Kai). The only difference is the Saban edits were a lot more absurd since they affected the script (eg the Next dimension and Tien's arm growing back)

I love kai because we actually get excellent dubbing, more true to the manga and the japanese script. Plus we got yamamoto who had only composed for video games at the time. Toei's horrid use of shunsuke kikuchi's score after yamamoto got caught infringing thus sparking to do my own kikuchi placement. And finally Norihito Sumitomo, while some his music is just plain horrible (due to budget) most of the tracks are just beautiful. Impatience, No More and Stay Away From Me are the three tracks I am so addicted to right now they are just beautiful, very well made

A lot things make Kai special:

- Better scripting
- Immensely improved English Dub
- Better pacing (Until it reached the Majin Boo arc)
- 4:3 Remastering done appropriately (Again, until the Majin Boo arc)
- Improved soundtrack (Until the Majin Bo- You get the idea )

I don't think the Nicktoon edits were bad at all. I think it was handled pretty well. The original 97' DBZ dub was chopped up and edited to appeal to 3 year old's. I'm not even being sarcastic here, they edited down to be suitable for 3 year old kids!

Also, there was no blue Popo in the Nicktoons version.

What made Kai 1.0 so special to me was the modern cinematic music it was such a spectacular experience while it lasted whereas Dragon Ball Z feels like a classic anime with irreplaceable music. Yamamoto and Kikuchi, the two best of Dragon Ball.

*sigh* Kai's Gohan SSJ2 theme was never released on CD. I really wish they'd have delayed the plagiarism until the CD (Vol. 4) had hit the market.

And the french dub. Although sadly they change some voices for the worse there.
