Your preferred English Dragon Ball Manga release and why
I'm looking to get a discussion going regarding the pros and cons of the various English manga releases of Dragon Ball. Specific examples and reason would be helpful rather then simply saying some thing "sucks"or is "awesome". Hopefully I can pick a printed English release that I would like to collect.

For me, it's easily all about the VizBigs.
Pros
- Three volumes for a little more or less than the price of two single ones.
- Larger print size
- Keeps some color pages
Cons
- Due to their large size, they can be a bit unwieldy, as well as the glue holding the spine on may not always hold 100%
- While it does keep some color pages, it doesn't keep all of them, from what I know
- Still has some edits such as certain instances of nudity and Popo's lips
Even with those cons though, the second and third one are issues that exist in every release of the manga here (save for the single volumes which a few of don't have edits, but also none keep the color pages). So really the only major issue with them is their bulky size.

Which English print release has the most color pages retained and which has the highest quality paper?
I'll probably go with VizBig since I own 1 of them so I have a head start.

The digital releases on http://www.vizmanga.com (as opposed to the versions sold on the Kindle Store/Google Play/iBooks/whatever other services have them).
Pros:
- The cheapest release on a per-volume basis. Goes on sale for $5 per volume a couple of times per year.
- Can be read online on the VizManga website or downloaded to a tablet via the VizManga app.
- Don't have to worry about degradation or damage to the pages.
- Significantly more portable than physical. If I want, I can have the entire series in my pocket, ready to read whenever I have some free time. Also saves a bunch of physical storage space.
- Page size scales to the device you're reading it on, so they can theoretically be as large or small as you want.
Cons:
- The usual caveats of a digital release with regards to "what if the company goes under or something" - while not the most likely thing in the world, you could potentially lose everything all at once.
- Won't appeal much to hardcore collectors - nothing to proudly display on your shelf or take photos of to show off.
- I think they're based on one of the more lightly censored releases? (Goku/Gohan nudity is uncensored, but I think Bulma's chest and Mr. Popo's lips probably have been?)
- The scanning process seems to have faded the gray-scaled "full color" pages just a bit, though everything else looks fine to me.
The positives far outweigh the negatives for me personally.

I own all of the z portion of the series digitally through vizmanga. So my priority is the manga portion of pre z in print right now and maybe get z portion in print just because I like collecting DragonBall goods.

Re: Your preferred English Dragon Ball Manga release and why
When I typed that up I was under the impression this was more of a "Let's catalog the good and bad things about each English-language release just for information's sake" thread, rather than one aimed at helping you decide how to complete your physical collection (I guess I accidentally skipped the last sentence in the OP). Sorry about that.

It's both and I appreciate everyone's knowledge and information. No sorry necessary man. I'm trying to figure out which English print has the most color pages now although I'll probably get the vizbig releases.

I'm looking for an English manga print release containing as much color as possible of original Dragonball not the full color z. I'll probably end up collecting VizBIgs.

Sorry to hijack this thread but does anyone know what volume VizBigs continue where the full colour's left off? I have given up hope on the rest of the full colours coming out. Danke.

There's also censorship in the words from Vizbigs, like saying curse you and blast it all the time.
Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!

Ah true, didn't even think about that. That's still something that's true for every English release though, isn't it?dbzfan7 wrote:There's also censorship in the words from Vizbigs, like saying curse you and blast it all the time.

Well not quite. Early on saiyan saga material showcased different phrasing in comparison with Raditz and I think Vegeta. I hear that perhaps the censorship increased over the time the smaller volumes were released, but I don't have them to compare.Gyt Kaliba wrote:Ah true, didn't even think about that. Being digital doesn't have to be tied to any servers. It is in this case but it's the company's choice, not necessarily a problem of digital vs physical.Theophrastus wrote:- The usual caveats of a digital release with regards to "what if the company goes under or something"
Re: Your preferred English Dragon Ball Manga release and why
The Vizbigs are the only release with any color, I believe. And they are the release with the best paper quality and the bigger panels/art.Careless Saiyajin wrote:I'm looking for an English manga print release containing as much color as possible of original Dragonball not the full color z. The regular edition has no color, the paper is worse and the price is worse than the Vizbigs. However, they are more portable and their spines are probably more durable than the Vizbigs due to being smaller. Also, the recent editions have a little less censorship than the Vizbigs but its negligible because its only a few panels and the Vizbigs already have a very small amount of censorship.
The 3-in-1 have poor quality of paper and no color. But the price is the best of the three. They still have censorship so don't buy that uncensored propaganda. Its practically the same censorship as the regular edition because there are so few changes.
So, imo, the vizbigs are the best release.
