Re: Xenoverse Platform Survey
PS3 for me, as it seems like the best fit right now.
May also pick it up for Steam if we get good mods and I eventually get a computer capable of running it.

I'll be on the XBone. I may pick it up later for Steam if the mods are cool.

I'll get it for the Xbox 360.
I would have picked PC, but since it's Steamworks and I hate DRM, it's a no go.

I don't think I've seen someone bad mouth Steam as a form of DRM in a decade.Luso Saiyan wrote:I'll get it for the Xbox 360.

Nothing against the idea; it's interesting to see principles stuck to so vehemently.
Though, in your case, I have to question how a closed console system in which you have to pay for online is any better?

Really? Well, I know I'm not alone. Also, the fact that such service has a monopoly over the PC market is scary to say the least.AjayLikesGaming wrote:I don't think I've seen someone bad mouth Steam as a form of DRM in a decade.
It's better because I'm not dependable on any third party server. Live Gold is an optional service (one I don't use and never planned to), therefore it doesn't affect me. On the 360, I own the copies of the games I bought. On Steam, I'm dependable on their servers to install, activate and play the games I buy (it's basically a long-term rental). Not only that, but I have to agree with their terms and services that they can block or close my account without any explanation on their part. On PC I'm very selective and only buy DRM-free games (GOG, Humble Store, etc...) or retail copies without online activation required.AjayLikesGaming wrote:Though, in your case, I have to question how a closed console system in which you have to pay for online is any better?
Re: Xenoverse Platform Survey
Oh yeah, I certainly wasn't trying to you say you're alone. I know there's people out there; it's just that Steam is so accepted nowadays and their naysayers so rare that I was quite surprised.Luso Saiyan wrote: Really? Well, I know I'm not alone. I find your attitude quite admirable, really. So, please don't take my persistent questioning as something negative. I'm just trying to understand your viewpoint a little better.
How do you feel about the fact the games you buy for your Xbox 360 are forever tied to that platform. When you switch over to Xbox One or PS4; you have to keep a hold of that older console and that disc copy of the game. If, and when online support for the 360 diminishes, you're left with a permanently offline game.
I'm surprised that the zero-generational aspects of the PC or, the ease in which user servers can be upheld when online services disintegrate, don't overshadow your concerns about Steamworks. Heck, should Steam ever vanish off the face of the earth, you've got hundreds of thousands of cracks easily available to continue playing your games as though nothing happened.
A trend we saw last generation (and continues into the current) involved HD re-releases of titles for full or slightly lower prices. It seems far more pro-consumer on the PC end of things where that game is forever yours and forever scalable as your hardware improves. Do you also choose to ignore HD rereleases, too?
I'm just wondering where you draw the line on it all. How do you feel about Xbox Live Gold services? Do you pay for those?

PS3 for now, then maybe or switch to PC if I can get my gaming notebook by then. Still pretty clueless on joining the PC Gaming crowd.
Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!

Re: Xenoverse Platform Survey
And the ability to play the game offline is all they need to assure me. I feel fine because it's a consequence I chose to accept. When I bought the 360, I knew the games I bought would (at least) only work on that platform. I also knew the 360 had retro-compatibility with Xbox games as well. If I were to upgrade to another console in the future (unlikely), they would need to assure certain requirements that I value. When I buy a PC game, I'm also tied to the copy I bought and the platform it's in and I know that same copy isn't compatible with Mac or Linux.AjayLikesGaming wrote:How do you feel about the fact the games you buy for your Xbox 360 are forever tied to that platform. If I am to rely on cracks to circumvent online/account-based DRM to play a game I bought, then they (developer and/or publisher) don't deserve my money. Also, if Steam were to vanish, you'd lose all the games you had there.AjayLikesGaming wrote:I'm surprised that the zero-generational aspects of the PC or, the ease in which user servers can be upheld when online services disintegrate, don't overshadow your concerns about Steamworks. HD releases are more of a console thing, since PC games usually support high resolutions on the original release. Still, if there is an HD release of a console game I really like (and if the price is right), I'll consider buying it.AjayLikesGaming wrote:A trend we saw last generation (and continues into the current) involved HD re-releases of titles for full or slightly lower prices. No, because it's optional and I don't use those same services. I only play online multiplayer on PC.AjayLikesGaming wrote:I'm just wondering where you draw the line on it all. How do you feel about Xbox Live Gold services? Do you pay for those?
As for where do I draw the line? Bottom line is, I don't want to be dependable on someone else to have, install and play the games I bought. I have a 360 and games for it. I'm not dependable on Microsoft to play those same games whenever I want, same thing with GOG on PC (as an example). On Steam, I'm dependable on Valve's servers to install and play the games I buy, which is why I don't buy games there.

XBone. Solely because my cousin and his friend are getting it and I enjoy playing online with them. Although, if you're a fellow Kanzenshuu user and want to play Xenoverse with me, as I want to play with a lot of people, hit me up on XBox Live. My gamertag is KingOfBunnies.

I was initially getting it for PS4. But when I realized I had no headset, would have more fun playing with my cousin and his friend being able to chat with them, it was worth it.Big Momma wrote:Man I wish I'd gotten a PS4 now, but alas, all my IRL friends are getting Xbone, so I did as well...
