[Fandub] Goku Arrives on Namek (New Mic test)

New mic, first thing I recorded from it. I was given links to the voices of Danish and Italian Goku by sangofe, and I kinda realized that I was overdoing the voice too much. I don't think I'll be able to sound like those two (they sound really great), but this is what I came up with after tweaking it a bit. It feels at lot more relaxed on my range at the very least. I might do his more goofy scenes just to see how I'd do with it.

Hmm...
I like the voice, it sounds very natural (and I kind of see a similarity with the Danish Goku), but it feels a bit flat in this scene. I think that, by trying not to overact, you've ended up underacting (you're strained to be restrained, if you allow me a little wordplay I've just come up with). However, I've also re-checked your Goku vs. Vegeta video from October, and I can feel an improvement in both the voice and the diction. You just need to get into the character a bit more, but I like it so far. I'll be expecting more of your Goku!

As a side note, I'll make two extra remarks:
* Be careful about lip-locking. At 0:22, Goku's lips aren't moving and you're saying "Bulma". It stands out because it's a name with two bilabial consonants, which should belong to two different lip flaps (it's not that Japanese animation cares a lot about it, but still).
* What kind is your mic? Do you record while standing up, or are you sitting down? I've upgraded my mic recently, and there's a huge difference in acting when you're standing up and are able to, up to a certain point, act the movements as well.

Coincidently I was thinking of trying to fandub these Namek Goku scenes myself, might get around to doing that soon...

Anyway, my first impression was that the voice was alright for Goku though I have a feeling it would suit grown up Gohan better but that might be because of the acting.

Basically I felt the acting was a little too reserved and lacking in the energy that I'm used to hearing from Goku. It was only until 1:00 onwards that I started to feel the voice fit but that was because those last few lines were read with more energy and had a more commanding tone.

I remember running into this issue myself when I first started recording but I think I'm getting better at it now that I make a conscious effort to have more energy when I speak into the mic. And when I mean energy I don't mean yelling all the time (since I know someone will interpret it that way..).

Noted. I was sorta trying to give the sense that Goku is calmly thinking to himself and I might've ended up overdoing that much. It's good that my diction and voice are much better though (ESPECIALLY on the diction @_@). That was my main focus, to be honest. Now I should be much more relaxed in how I play him.

I don't know if you have one, but have you tried to stick it in a camera tripod or a mic holder?
I was given the mic holder as a present (it's the white thingy in the picture) but my mic was too heavy for it, so I ended up mixing it with a camera tripod and I found a way to act while standing up. Since your mic looks smaller and lighter, a mic holder may be enough.
