Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.

Re: ssjg Vegeta
I kind of really do want to see this out of curiosity. See if he gets that blue hair, if that is why he isn't wearing blue in battle for the first time in forever.
If we go by the poster then I think his hair will be blue but why ? It looks bad ass on him but I wonder if there will be a reason to why the hair isn't one color for everyone like the normal Ssj forms.
In terms of seeing it in the trailer I doubt we will cause with BOG I remember they kept Goku's look a secret until a week or less before the movie opened but I hope they don't this time.
That blue lightning has me pretty convinced that if he gets ssjg, it'll be blue. If it were also magenta, I'd think that lightning would be magenta lit on them both on the website.
I agree they'd wait till the end to reveal his ssjg if he has it.
My meta guess for why different colors is Toriyama is tired of all that blonde that ssj resulted in once everyone had it.

But you don't know if he can stand up or not. My interpretation of the image is that he looks frustrated. Maybe surprised that Freeza got to be this powerful.

I'm sure everyone will be very surprised at what Frieza will be able to do but Goku's look and him being on the ground gives the impression that he's finished.
July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.

Well then I guess we'll have to wait and see. I hope we get some news soon.

He has a pissed off look more like he can't believe what is going on versus he has lost to me.

I think the big news will start coming out mid-late next month but hopefully we'll get something before that even if it's small.

A look that he wouldn't have if he was in control of the fight and he definitely wouldn't be on the ground if he had everything under control or even if he was just holding his own.
What are the chances Goku's cocky ass refuses to go SSJ against Frieza, which is why he gets beaten? This results in Vegeta becoming a SSJG, gaining an upper hand, but losing after his God powers go away (he fails to absorb). Finally, Goku decides to go SSJ and beats Frieza because fuck Vegeta.

the little shine it has made me think it was some kind of glass, but indeed its a weird rock, probably nothing important...
Thanks for the zoom
Re: Who/how will Freeza be defeated?
Its either Goku or Vegeta as they are on the top of the poster, I can't really say at the moment since the usual is that Goku beats the villians in the movies (excluding BoG), but since is Toriyama who is in charge, maybe Vegeta... or maybe Beerus or Whis...
or maybe a team work with all Beerus, Whis, Goku and Vegeta? it would be cool if everyone throw their special attacks at Freeza at the same time like in Plan to Eradicate the Super Saiyans.
Sleeping until the tournament is over.

These days people start throwing the words "filler" and "silce of life" everytime characters aren't punching each other. No matter if something is moving the plot or there's character exposition.
Imagine if DB started these days. It would go like this:
"hey, what's happening in Dragon Ball today?"
"Goku wants Mutenroshi to train him, so he's bringing him some chicks now."
"oh i see, just slice of life filler then. skippable. "

I think Toriyama said that Goku doesn't need to go SSJ anymore so the chances are pretty low.

BOG established that Goku doesn't need any ssj forms thanks to him absorbing Ssjg's power.
Toie isn't writing this so this theory can go out the window.

I thought Toriyama only stated Goku doesn't need SSJ2 and SSJ3 anymore. I know there was some article implying Goku wouldn't use SSJ throughout the film, but I find that hard to believe. Also, the dialogue leaked between him and Frieza only seems to imply he doesn't need to go SSJ against HIM.
Just seriously doubt such an iconic transformation would be omitted. But... guess we shall see.

I and some others were under the impression that at least goku would not go ssj at all. I can not remember what the source of this was however or if it was someone's prediction.

I think that was based on a misinterpretation of that dialogue of Goku against Freeza.
It was also before we had the dialogue itself between him and Freeza, if I remember right. All we had was the short sentences of info at the time.
It's just so much time passed between initial reports and the dialogue being posted.
The dialogue made me think of how Gokû flaunts ssj3 before Beerus beats him in the first fight.
If there was no ssj1, I don't think they'd have already used it twice to advertise F; the teaser and initial promo image, both on the movie's website.
Ssjg may be iffy in terms of making an appearance, but I'm certain we'll see ssj1.

That one was fanart, but it is based off a real shot:
Pretty awesome image of Goku getting his assed kicked. Too bad the rest of the movie won't look consistently good as this.

I really don't want SSJ to be gone. Toriyama did say Goku would probably focus on his base and SSJ states as the best method of training, and I just can't imagine a Freeza confrontation without Super Saiyan. It just feels so wrong to me. If it were any other villain I'd still be a bit uncomfortable as I adore Super Saiyan's in general, but this is Freeza where the whole Super Saiyan thing began, as well as the guy who feared of it's existence. Thus he terminated Planet Vegeta (As well cause of rapid power growth, but SSJ Legend more importantly) so a Super Saiyan couldn't rise up and destroy him. Kinda like how Toriyama pictured the final bout of Beerus vs Super Saiyan Goku in his interviews, I can't picture a final bout in this movie to not have Super Saiyan Goku (and maybe Vegeta) vs Freeza.
Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!
Spoiler:
Doctor. wrote:I've explained before, I'll just paraphrase myself.
Power levels establish tension and drama. People who care about them (well, people who care about them in a narrative) don't care about the big numbers or the fancy explosions. If you have character A who's so much above character B, who's the main character, you're gonna be left wondering how in the hell character B, the character we're supposed to care and root for, is going to escape the situation or overcome the odds. It makes us emotionally invested.
If character B doesn't escape the situation in a believable way that's consistent with previous events, then that emotional investment is gone. It was pointless tension, pointless drama made just to suck in the viewer. It has no critical value whatsoever. The audience is left believing that the author can just create whatever scenarios he wants and what happens to the characters is decided by whatever the author wants to happen, regardless of the events that happened in the story. Which, in fairness, is what happens, but the audience wants to be fooled. The audience wants to know that the world they're following has rules. That the world they're invested in isn't going to bend to external factors that are irrelevant to them.
An author can do whatever he wants with the characters, that's not false. But the author should also have the responsibility to make sure it fits in cohesively with the other events in the narrative he has created.
I'm not going to complain for whatever path they choose, as I like base and Super Saiyan. But Freeza already fought a Super Saiyan though. Twice. From two different characters in this timeline. Instead of fighting a "Super Saiyan", just let him fight a "super" Saiyan...
