Budokai 3 or Budokai Tenkaichi: Which is Your Favorite?
Moderators: Kanzenshuu Staff, General Help
I'd have to go with Budokai 3.. the game over all feels so much smoother, and looks a lot better. Sure, the Dragonrushes got really annoying, but it just kinda kept the speed of the game up.
I really didn't like the Sparking! character models.. they were so emtionless, and it just felt so cheap and taky.. not that its a bad game, hell no, it was awesome. But Budokai 3 wins for me, as a combo of:
Amazingly over the top graphics, and effects.
Great new music, felt really fresh(For most of the levels)
The game seemed to.. 'flow', as in the gameplay never slowed down.
Controls were easy to remember.
Fuuuuu-Sion! HA! (Hehe).
Sparking just seemed to leave a lot of important stuff out, such as transformations, fusions, and huge explosions XD, but we all know this'll be fixed for NEO.

Quick question on Budokai 3: I was playing against one of the charater who has one of those giant energy orb attacks like the spirit bomb and when i won the tap battle, i pushed the orb back at them. Can anyone tell me who it was? i can't seem to remember.

You can call me Rick because I'm not actually Piccolo.
I missed out on all of the DB Movie fun, huh?
Point blank: it's gonna suck if you want it to. Personally, I'm seeing it as a comedy.

For the life of me, i can seem to remember who i was fighting or which character i was using. I tried to recreate it, buit nothing works. I tried with Cooler cuz i thought it was a recreation of the movie but that didn't work.Mr.Piccolo wrote:Could you describe him/her/it a bit? I bought both games without playing either first. And I've decided that I absolutely can't stand Budokai Tenkaichi.
1) I'm a close up kind of fighter, and I prefer punching, kicking, and throwing, with the occasional ki blast thrown in for good measure. So the amount of freedom just didn't matter to me at all.
2) Yes, there are a ton more characters, but even that doesn't matter to me; since everybody plays exactly the same. I just didn't feel like I was playing seperate characters.
3) I hate not being able to attack my opponent because I wasn't locked on. yet I could see them clear as day, and my character could sense where the opponent was.
4) The camera angle was, in my opinion, stupid. I don't want to see my character's back.
5) I beat the game too quickly. Some of the whatifs were interesting, but ended too soon.
6) I just didn't feel compelled to go back and replay any story mode, save to get the dragon balls.
7) I didn't feel compelled to replay the game on the hard difficulty mode.

Maybe it was Yamcha. It isn't quite what you describe, but he gets hit with his own Sokidan if you defend against it.Anonymous Friend wrote:For the life of me, i can seem to remember who i was fighting or which character i was using. The battle card game..? That game was awesome... for its spritesRocketman wrote:I love Budokai Tenkaichi. It's my second favorite DBZ game of all because it captures the feel of DBZ perfectly.
First, of course, is Legendary Super Warriors for the Game Boy.

I like both equally for different reasons. Tenkaichi is not as linear as Budokai 3 and that's why I like it. There are also some more characters and of course the Oozaru (and Oozaru Vegeta) in Tenkaichi. I also like cutscenes rather than pictures talking.
Overall though Tenkaichi (oops sorry I mean Sparking! Mike :rol:) is not so "caged in" as B3. Still I like to play B3 because I love the cinematic attacks and I don't mind the "rock, paper, scissors" combo in the game though I admit it does get tedious after playing it for awhile so that's why I take a break from it. I still play Budokai 3 and I actually played it a bit today when I had some free time. I'm glad I'm not the only one who still enjoys it.
Budokai 3, Super DBZ and Sparking! (soon to be replaced by Sparking! NEO or Budokai Tenkaichi 2 which) are Dragonball games I still enjoy tremendously. Though I play several other video games of course. I am a professional geek you know!

I prefer Budokai 2. Is that allowed? Anyways I loved 3 to Tenkaichi because I didn't like the fighting system all to much. I got it on Christmas morning and started to play it and was like ''what the hell is this shit''!
I didn't like the way they dramatically changed the fighting system (your probably thinking this guy should have read reviews, and seen that it was different in trailers etc, but I don't watch them. I prefer to play them as they come for the excitement of a new game and maybe a new system, weird...maybe).
Anyways, it was like 4 in the morning and I but it in, watched the intro and was like man that sucks. Then I got into the story mode and thought it was laid out cool then I started playing it, heh I didn't think it was cool at all!
I still completed it though and got everything (like you do) but haven't played it since. Also transformations, I hated it how you couldn't do it during a battle!
With 3 though, that was cool. The only fault I could pick was the button sequences etc that took ages and the Dragon Rush. (Think that's why I prefer 2).
I also didn't like 3 when they took out Babidi’s Spaceship, (is that what it was called?) that was cool!

I loved it too, very much, which is saying something considering I'm an anime purist and the game's based entirely off the manga. It's not quite as good as Budokai 3 (GH) IMO, but it is definitely a kick-ass game and my second favorite thus far. 23rd Budokai Chichi, my favorite female fighter in the Ps2 games!Sun_Wukong wrote:I personally loved Super DBZ, but I may be alone.

I don't quite understand why everyone says "Tenkaichi felt more like playing the show." I strongly disagree. Ever since I first laid hands on Budokai 3 I thought "Now this feels like DragonBall Z!"
Budokai 3 just does it right. All the models look way more accurate than Tenkaichi and have so much more personality to them, not to mention the gameplay is about a million times more fluid. I don't remember the fights in the show ever looking so stiff and slow like they play out in Tenkaichi. So what if you have "free" movement in Tenkaichi? If the system to utilize that freedom doesn't work right, the whole illusion's ruined. Budokai 3 felt like playing and watching a fight from the show. Hell, sometimes I'd just set it to COM vs. COM and just watch them duke it out. Tenkaichi didn't do it for me at all.
As far as Super DBZ goes into the equation, I don't really like it. I understand the whole gimmick of it playing like Street Fighter, and that's great. And yeah, the game is fun to play for a short while. There's just not enough in this to make me feel like I accomplished something by playing it. I know it's a port and I knew what I was in for, I just wanted more to it.
I am looking forward to Tenkaichi 2, however. I think they'll fix it enough to suit my needs in a DragonBall Z game.

I know everyone is entitled to their own opinion and all but if I can recall, most of the show didn't remind me of a Street Fighter match(Street Fighter II, part 2, 2nd version, second re-release, on Feb. 2nd 2002)...Sparking! was designed to be a playable version of the show.Rocketman wrote:Bah!Detective X wrote:Budokai 3 felt like playing and watching a fight from the show.
