Re: Dragon Box vs Original Broadcast - The Audio
Praising the hardwork of these fans. Gotta love their dedication.
But Funi can ruin the quality once again. They always do.
Toei only released Dragon Boxes and that just one release is better than any release Funi did so far.
We have the audio quality problem but that's it.
Funi always does some bad editing, claims its HD, adds some extra footage, people buy and everything repeats next year.
Even though the fans give them the best sources, they can/will still screw up in the end.
But that's just my opinion. I trust in the fans, not in them.
Good luck.

A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

The level sets were genuinely a good release. It did have the problem of crushed blacks but even still, it wasnt horribleFortuneSSJ wrote:Praising the hardwork of these fans. Gotta love their dedication.

Ah yes, however they gave us completely fullscreen Kai and will always have superior colors for the Buu arc in their home releases.FortuneSSJ wrote:Praising the hardwork of these fans. Gotta love their dedication.

Re: Dragon Box vs Original Broadcast - The Audio
The DBZ Level Blu-rays are better than the Dragon Boxes Z in its aspect of superior picture quality but besides that it's incomplete, missing Japanese credits and no NEPs (which I'm okay with given that they'd release it with the glorious Level quality).FortuneSSJ wrote:*snip*
And they don't have to "claim" it really is in HD even if not in the quality people wanted it to be.
Not ruin, just not accept it because the way Sabat's getting the audio is through a stranger that has nothing to do with Toei or FUNimation and so it wouldn't be surprising if it was turned down.sangofe wrote:And Toei can ruin all of this... Let's hope not.

You can't exactly ruin something that's already been as is for 26 years, but instead, only not being granted a superior audio track.
The amounts of times that I've seen it wouldn't make the experience any different but rather improve upon it.

Crushed blacks are the only serious flaw of the Levels.
I don't see any significance in from where the audio came from.dbboxkaifan wrote:Toei's okay with FUNimation accepting the Japanese Broadcast Audio from a fan/stranger?
I didn't know that Fuji TV broadcasted Dragon Ball illegally!eledoremassis02 wrote:True, but it's not from a legal source, so TOEI could get legal on them. But if they don't care that yay!

Re: Dragon Box vs Original Broadcast - The Audio
lol...the tapes themselves are for personal use. TOEI didnt even use the current stereo audio for the GT Dragon Box that are available that TV stations have now. I think FUNimation getting the tapes and using them without OK from TOEI (which I would never suspect them of doing) could get legal because the audio was not authorized by TOEI (The main licence holder of the Z anime)Kojiro Sasaki wrote: I didn't know that Fuji TV broadcasted Dragon Ball illegally!

It's possible that their footage was already damaged so there was nothing they could do to improve it.Kojiro Sasaki wrote:http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/110537

If Toei didn't accept it then chances are if FUNi (Sabat) takes it in they can still refuse to use it by demand of Toei. The form they acquired it through was by an outsider but if Toei sees no wrong in this then FUNi will have a better release than Toei (which they probably wouldn't want as they'd have people importing it than buying their own).Kojiro Sasaki wrote:I don't see any significance in from where the audio came from.

I'm surprised you don't know what I mean when I say "they would ruin everything."Let me explain it for you then: they could ruin this awesome initiative from the fans of convincing funimation to release a new HD product with damn clear japanese audio. Do you understand whatI meant with my statement now?dbboxkaifan wrote:You can't exactly ruin something that's already been as is for 26 years, but instead, only not being granted a superior audio track.

Re: Dragon Box vs Original Broadcast - The Audio
100% agree. The contrast is not bad on the Level sets, so it may be the source.dbboxkaifan wrote:

Also, agree with TOEI having final say on this audio. The only thing I'd say is they allowed the Blurays, so there might not be too much of a concern trumping the DBoxes in terms of quality. But I wonder if we'll get NEP this time around. They got new masters (film and not tapes this time) but they still never got the NEP audio?
Re: Dragon Box vs Original Broadcast - The Audio
Of course Toei have the final say, but why be negative about this really great initiative?! For Pete's sake, why not be positive and encourage those guys doing this?! It'd be an important event in Dragonball release history if it goes through.

Re: Dragon Box vs Original Broadcast - The Audio
I'm all for it! I'm hopin for it but are there plans in FUNi can't do it? Kei had no luck with TOEI. I mean, if not, FUNi's current audio restoration is not that bad. I'm rootin for this audio and Kei and Makkou gettin lotta praise for their hard work (which is deserved) but outside of getting the audio, it's up to FUNi to convince TOEI.sangofe wrote:Of course Toei have the final say, but why be negative about this really great initiative?! I took some of the audio and added it the singles video with slight desaturation

Honestly, even with the crushed blacks, the picture improvement is well worth it imo. Just check out that detail.Kojiro Sasaki wrote:http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/110537dbboxkaifan wrote:The DBZ Level Blu-rays are better than the Dragon Boxes Z in its aspect of superior picture quality but besides that it's incomplete, missing Japanese credits and no NEPs (which I'm okay with given that they'd release it with the glorious Level quality).

Are you 100% sure?
Re: Dragon Box vs Original Broadcast - The Audio
Yeah, FUNi's masters simply don't have the same level of detail as Toei's do. Not a whole lot to be done about that.
Colour corrected Dragon Box footage is far better than the Level Sets.
Resolution is meaningless when your masters feature less dark detail than a DVD release.

Re: Dragon Box vs Original Broadcast - The Audio
But this topic is about audio - let's talk about audio!
Yeeeee! It's possible that we will get a new release without moving our asses from chairs!
Dragon Box vs Fuji TV broadcast - this kind of improvement is worth more than just writing posts.
If FUNimation is really planning on releasing movies again, we should do everything we can to make them use the original master audio for Japanese language track. For the US dub, FUNimation can create a new ME tracks with the use of the original music/sfx masters. It would give a big improvement in quality.
