Things about DB that make you happy.
...Lets try to forget the Freaky Fanfiction Friday thread, shall we?
Since said last thread failed miserably to not end with me yelling at someone, I decided it was time for a gentle touch. Namely, things about DB that make you smile and be happy.
I will begin!
-Hearing how passionately everyone loves the franchise! No matter the kind of enjoyment we get, we love DB!
-The Passion the crew behind all versions of Dragon Ball. I freaking love how much the people in charge love the franchise. From Nozawa (Son Gokuu walks alongside every child...) and Mayumi Tanaka(I'm Kuririn) to Tohru Furuya. Seriously, the guy's role is pretty much "The Sucky Guy"(I dont personally think so though) but he loves it to death and having the chance to be in the franchise despite being such a celebrity in the seiyuu world.
-Speaking of Furuya: ROUGA FUU FUU KEN!
-How many children grow to love the franchise. I'm not too big on kids, but I love that kids keep discovering DB and falling in love with it. Can someone link me to that user who quoted Funimation saying something along the lines of 9 year old kids being 'constantly reborn"?

-Super Saiyan itself. I am always left in awe when I see it on anyone. The aura, the sound effects, the change to hairstyle (not including the lazy non changes), just everything about it. I never get tired of seeing it. It's the coolest thing I've ever seen period.
-The passionate good fans. The people who follow the series with love and support, and truly understand the series. You could be a purist, a dub fan, or whatever so long as you understood the true story. Basically not the youtube or wiki community.
-The passionate artists and writers. These people strive to gives us more content of the characters we love. These awesome people give us free content to enjoy or in some cases mock, but nonetheless it's cool to see expansions people write or draw. More notably when they're good of course.
-The silliness even when things are dire. This isn't like obnoxious silly like Mikey of the turtles (yeah I may be a rarity for hating him), but it's in a more fun and likable way I feel. Such as Gotenks antics, Goku and Boo biting each other, underpants saving the day, stuff like that. Most series would always be serious while Dragon Ball is one of those that does not go overly serious often.
-The fight scenes are just a sight to behold. I love seeing everyone in action and pulling off swift and awesome moves.
-The few times things get really dire. This may go against an earlier point, but I feel a serious scene is truly more powerful when even the gags, and silliness are abruptly stopped. Such as Goku going Super Saiyan. For once everything is serious and the moment is more powerful because of the tonal shift. I don't like things getting too serious often, but when it's kept rare, it feels so fresh to see when happy go lucky goes bye bye as well as meaningful.
-Power up yells how could I forget. Those send chills down my spine. I don't care if people mock the constipation or how it can be silly, it's still super cool to me.
-Fusion. I freaking love how Toriyama could turn a silly dance into such a badass power up. Now silly dancing is without a doubt cool.
-The beam attacks. Specifically Kamehameha. Everyone who's seen or knows of Dragon Ball has likely attempted to perform one. Anyone who says they didn't is a LIAR!

- The show itself: characters, art, battles, soundtrack, etc...
- My childhood
- Portuguese Dub
- The good part of the fanbase
- Fans work: AMV, Fanarts, Abridged, etc.
The other day I was on the bus and kids were talking about the series like it was their first time watching.
They didn't know what would happen next and I was there smiling and hearing their theories.
In that same bus, a woman had the DBZ Portuguese Dub as ringtone. I don't know what was happening but It was an awesome ride after work.

A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

- The funny bad dubs (Big Green, Malaysian etc.)
- The (original) Ocean dub
- The fans
- All the numerous races/species
- The badass characters (Vegeta, Tien, Piccolo, insert villain etc)
- The show's overall inspiring theme (poor country hillbilly alien guy saves universe countless times over while getting no credit)
- The transformations
- The timeskips and being able to watch characters gradually grow up on screen
- The dub scores
- The constant DVD releases
- The American/western nostalgia factor
- The show's interesting and extremely complicated history in English speaking countries
- The useless irrelevant cartoony characters that stayed around for Dragon Ball Z (Korin, Puar, Chiaotzu etc.)
- The animation style looking different from stereotypical generic anime
- Being able to watch the same film or episode with 4 or 5 different English dubs (many more if foreign languages are included)

Re: Things about DB that make you happy.
This is gonna feel like a cop-out answer, but, honestly? Just Dragon Ball itself. For all the headaches that various arguments and discussions about aspects of the series, both in-universe and otherwise, bring to me almost daily, there's just something enjoyable about the franchise that always makes me happy regardless. Maybe it's the memories of growing up watching the series when it was all so new to me, and thinking back on all the friends new and old that I've made because of it, I don't know...but it is what it is.

Gyt Kaliba sums it up well. You love Dragon Ball because it is Dragon Ball.
The best thing about the entire franchise is that everyone has their own opinions, ideas, interpretations, likes and dislikes.

The list of things in DB that don't make me happy would be much shorter!
But for real. A short list of likes.
-The characters!
-The fighting!
-The interesting designs and world!
-The many things it has inspired and helped create!
Overall Dragon Ball as a whole is enjoyable and timeless! Even to this day I can have passionate debates about stuff in the dragon ball world with my friends!

Going on hiatus. Too much stuff in RL to deal with for me to keep up with posts here for now. Was fun, hope you all have a nice day and future! Volt signing off.

The story : From beginning to end each arc gets bigger and better.
The characters : Goku,Vegeta,Piccolo, ect. are all great characters.
The fights : The best that any series can offer.
The possibilities : Anything can happen in DB from androids to pink immortal demons.
The designs : DB has it's own special look to it from the areas like the different planets to the characters.
The content : DB is among the best series to get into if you're looking for huge amounts of content.
The legacy : DB is and forever will be the one series that changed everything for shonen manga.

Re: Things about DB that make you happy.
The manga's early art style is probably my favorite thing about Dragon Ball.
Even later on when things begin to look simplified, everything has a consistent look to it,
at least up until the Buu arc.
The large amount of distinct characters & designs are another aspect that I enjoy.
In regards to the anime, Dragon Ball Kai saved the series for me, despite having many issues of its own.
I'm still waiting for my interest in the video games to be revived; Xenoverse isn't up my alley at all.
Can I include this site on my list? I may have recently joined, but I've been here since the pre-Kanzenshuu days.
Definitely grateful that we have so much reliably translated information neatly organized and presented.

The artwork, the humor, and Goku's character, I love how naive he is, and how he remains, for the most part, light hearted and optimistic in almost any situation.

Re: Things about DB that make you happy.
I like how when I sit and read Dragonball, no matter what situation I found myself in previously, Toriyama's world is so absorbing it offers a wonderful sense of escapism, like you may find in a great work of fantasy literary fiction, in that I can simply lose myself within it.
That's not to say that I put Toriyama's writing on par with that of a literary classic, but I think when he's at his best, his storytelling is thoroughly captivating - although, admittedly, I find this more in the earlier volumes of the manga than in the latter.

Watching Cell get smacked around by SSJ2 Gohan.
It's the only time in the entire series, that I can recall, that we really get an extended, hardcore beatdown of the bad guy by the hero who is clearly superior in every way. Gogeta in movie 12 was too short, and Vegetto/SSJ4 Gogeta were mostly played for laughs.
The sheer satisfaction of just watching someone getting what's coming to them...well, it's pretty great.

- The characters and the world itself are my favorite parts of it
- Seeing a proper dub get released in the States made me happy

- Seeing the franchise revival we're in the middle of pick up more and more steam
- Seeing a DB game finally come to PC

Getting back into Dragonball after 10 years makes me happy. The diverse personalities of all the characters, most of which are unique and likeable in their own way whether hero or villain.

The fact that the Dragon Boxes got a Region 1 release, and the fact that I was able to get them all. I feel bad for those who want to get them, but can't due to their limited release back in the day and the ludicrous prices of them on places such as Ebay.
Also, the Japanese OST. Always loved the music for the Dragon Ball series, and always will.
