What big thing did Gohan do other then beat Cell which wasn't on his own to be called a central character ?

Oh how the complaints will fill up the interwebs. I love it and am ready :D
Nothing fills me with more joy than salty hardcore american DBZ fans. Now I kinda want that ending to really happen. :P
You guys here SURE are sadistic, aren't yall? Went from wanting the angels to take over to this ironic ending. :P

Anyway, I'm confused between the "hell" thing. Are there two types of hell or something?

Well yeah, it's almost certainly the latter. I was just joking around!

I have no doubt in my mind that Toriyama gives no fucks about what a bunch of ignorant western fans think about his direction with the series.

So the "hell" that was underneath the Snake Way, that's a different one?!

Toriyama better buy a gun, cuz if the movie fails, A LOT of fans will form an angry mob and fly to Japan to find him.

But me, I'll just watch the news and shake my head if that happens. I may not like how this movie's going, but I'm not gonna drop dead over it.

Yeah, I'm excited regardless of what happens.

I've made my stance clear on how I hope Freeza's overall character is treated but outside of that, I don't really care so long as it feels like good quality stuff.

Hell is never shown in the manga, only mentioned. Though, Toriyama did contribute some ideas to Toei about the Hell in the anime, as far as I know, it's still more Toei's version than Toriyama's.

Actually, Vegeta contributed much more to the show than Gohan ever did, whether it was good or bad. He was the main villain of the Saiyan arc, went on a killing spree on Namek and has his back story explored, saved Goku's life in the Android saga, greatly contributed to Cell becoming perfect and aid Gohan in defeating Cell in the Cell arc and had the most character development in the Majin Boo arc and greatly contributed to endangering and later saving the universe. I'd say Goku and Vegeta are the central characters of the franchise. They're like ying and yang.[/quote]

They're not though. Gohan was pretty clearly more central to the series than Vegeta was. And a sentiment like that is not only ignorant, but ignores literally everything up to Vegeta's arrival on Earth. People are apparently confusing "Secret Protagonist" with "important character". This isn't about being important, it's arguing the entire series was really about Vegeta. It was not. Fun Fact, the character with the second most appearances in the manga other than Goku himself is actually Krillin.

Now that's crazy! Now I haven't read the manga in ages, but that's mindblowing to me! I just hope his hell won't all about these cutsey crap angels, otherwise I'm gonna hurl.

Nothing happens much for Gohan up until Vegeta and Nappa arriving other than training, something which all the Z-Fighters were doing, and headbutting Raditz. Vegeta is both the "secret protagonist" and an "important character" because his actions drastically change the plot of Dragon Ball Z, from start to finish.

I am very curious as to what Toriyama's version of DB's hell will look like in this movie. Freeza's sounds so cruel and unusual, I wonder if it's a Dante's Inferno type deal (what very little I know about that) where the punishments are all ironic and unique to each person depending on what they did in life. Ex: Freeza lords over the universe, commanding huge numbers of warriors, destroying worlds and inciting fear--and so he is punished by a complete loss of control over his afterlife, being lorded over and repeatedly humiliated by these seemingly weak looking characters and enduring whatever they throw at him whenever they throw it.

It'd be like Buu being in a place where he's unable to get or create candy/sweets.

This is pretty much exactly what I'm hoping it's going to be. A Hell where everyone's punishment is tailor-made for them based on who they were in life.

Gokū and Enma-daiō saved Bū from an eternal purgatory full of candy that turns into vegetables upon touch.

There needs to be a good reason for this. Not just some torture crap which is petty anyways when I'd think the ultimate punishment is being reincarnated into something far lesser than you once were. A matter of opinion I suppose. He also better be a soul, and not have a body. That would be even more ludicrous. I kinda fear for this movie now as it might borderline fan fiction just to get Freeza back.
Well Boo was done as a favor and is a completely different situation.
True, but I find it hard to believe a GALACTIC TYRANT, get's the same priority as the billions of other souls who get judged. I get Oob being a special case, but I'd say Freeza would be one too considering how much more of an effect he had on the universe.
TheDevilsCorpse wrote:So far, no one has said he was selectively imprisoned instead of reincarnated. Again, we don't know how long it takes before the reincarnation process begins because Uub has repeatedly been stated to be a special case. Still entirely possible that Freeza is just being kept imprisoned (and annoyed/tortured?) until it's his time to be reincarnated. This is hell after all, which we've never seen Toriyama's version of.
It's true we don't quite know how long it takes to be reincarnated or how long the wait in Heaven and Hell are. We do know you lose your body in pretty much every case. I fear they'll go the ridiculous anime route where villains keep their bodies for absolutely no good reason.
Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!

I had forgotten that Hell hadn't appeared in the manga at all. So now we're getting the first-ever look at what Toriyama's version of Dragon Ball hell looks like. Color me excited!

I'm surprised Nozawa's quote from the recent news post hasn't been mentioned.
Masako Nozawa wrote:"It will betray expectations in a good way. It’s the best, just as you’d expect of [Toriyama] Sensei. It’s fun."
The cynicism about newly revealed minor details is getting annoying. We know nothing about this film. I'm not saying it'll be good. I just wouldn't object to a little cautious optimism.

That quote makes me grin. X3
This is gonna be ridiculous, isn't it? That poster is mostly Toriyama's version of what TFS did with their History of Trunks teaser, isn't it?

I mean, there's still gotta be despair, as that's mentioned outright, but we're not in for another "plot to destroy the super saiyajins" is what I mean.

Edit: OMG, the despair, what if Freeza traps Gokû and Vegeta in their own hells, somehow?
Not sure how he'd do it, but anyone who falls off of Snake Way, right?

The people who are upset about the new material must not have watched/read Dragon ball during it's original run. I can only imagine how much they would rage with previews of upcoming arcs showing #19 and #20, or Great Saiyaman and fat Buu

I enjoyed those very much but I also understand people's feeling of the possible awkwardness of the gags and silly jokes don't quite hot for everyone. I'm sure it will work out I love dragon ball.

Another "shocking" news. Seems like Toriyama wasn't kidding when he said he wanted to go back to the roots.
Nozawa is such a lady. I would love to meet her, she seems really nice.

Loving Goku new outfit. Those boots 8)

Looking forward to the next weeks.
