With Toriyama's guidance or aide in movies, show or manga. Whatever is possible. If someone competent could take over as he retires I'd also be open to it if it meant new content.singsing wrote:Manga is pretty much close to 100% impossible at this point if you're talking about Toriyama writing it.Careless Saiyajin wrote:I hope it leaves something that can justify more manga, anime shows, or anime films. Of course as long as these movies come out with Mr.Toriyama influenced or direct writing in then I am very happy!

Checked the calendar, VJump's got a Saturday release date this month. Has not been on Saturday since before F was announced, so not entirely sure but I expect the VJump preview page to update late next week if not the Monday of the release week.
On hiatus.

I don't think Toriyama would write something that bad so don't worry about it and keep in mind his 1st editor said it was good which isn't something he says a lot.TheAldella wrote:I'm just really scared about this movie flopping rather than it being good.

I think I already said this but I will be disappointed if the fact that Trunks was the one who killed Freeza isn't brought up; we NEED those Freeza-young Trunks interactions!

I'm sure it won't flop. These movies probably only cost a few million to make so even if it only made half what Battle of Gods did it would probably make it's money back several times over.I'm just really scared about this movie flopping rather than it being good.
Maybe it could make a bit less in Japan this time around but it could make more overseas because it'll hopefully be released before everyone just watches it online.

I've always wondered, considering the budget for Battle Of Gods was ¥50 million ($636,000), do you think FnF got more than that to cover for the animation, advertising etc. Or are Toei gonna cut corners again?Bullza wrote:I'm sure it won't flop. Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2015 Movie Thread: "Fukkatsu no F"
That wasn't the budget but how much was given to Toei by the Agency for Cultural Affairs towards the film. I imagine it would have cost a few million (dollars) to produce then another several million to market and distribute.
You'd think if the movie was successful and made several times it's budget that the second time around they'd put more money into the production and the marketing but who knows.
It'd be nice if they did though, Battle of Gods looked good but could have looked better with more money put into it.

There is no way this movie cost most than $500,000 USD. It was nowhere near impressive enough for that, lest extra money was burned up due to horrible animators and scheduling. Most TV episodes cost $90,000-200,000 USD. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann was produced on a higher-end budget of $180,000-200,000 an episode.

You're judging the budget purely on animation terms. Dragonball's cast contains numerous top-earning, A-List voice actors, with talent such as Nozawa being in an elite esteem where she can demand pretty much anything she wants. Then there's the cost of Toriyama's involvement...JulieYBM wrote:There is no way this movie cost most than $500,000 USD. I'm not saying that this is a big budgeted en devour, as it's clearly not. To me, it seems apparant that the initial budget wasn't particularly high, and that to accommodate the cast and the other associated brand expenses, they've made further concessions on the animation front.
I'd say that it's logical to say that the whole production, including marketing and worldwide distribution costs, stands at higher than $500,000, but I'd personally wager clocks in at significantly less than $1,000,000.

Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2015 Movie Thread: "Fukkatsu no F"
That's not how it works. The average episode of The Simpsons in 2007 cost $2 million but The Simpsons movie which was the lenght of about 6 episodes still cost $75 million just to produce.
According to ANN the the average cost of an anime episode is $100,000 to $300,000 and even if Battle of Gods cost as little as $300,000 per 20 minutes it'd still put the film well over a million being a 100+ minute film.
Then there's the fact that they'd have to pay the cast and crew just for the movie (which would also include Toriyama who'd have been well paid) rather than it being a cost that spreads over an entire season. Then they'd have to spend more money to make the movie not only suitable for theatre screens but for IMAX screens as well (and for 3D with this one). Then they had to pay the band Flow to perform the music in the movie.
There's a lot more to a production budget than just the animation cost. A DC animated straight to DVD movie costs $2-3 million itself.
That's not including all the marketing it had either with all the Interviews, Press Conferences, TV ads, Theatre ads, Magazine ads, Posters, collaborations with KFC, with Lawson, with that football team and probably countless more. Then distributing it across hundreds of theatres across the country and the more expensive IMAX theatres.
It adds up.

Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2015 Movie Thread: "Fukkatsu no F"
That figure for $300,000 refers to Gundam SEED Destiny, which was frequently behind schedule due to poor planning. It wound up costing so much per episode because it was being rushed together quickly. Bamboo Blade used about 13 million Japanese yen (currently $109,101.59) for one of its episodes. A twenty-six episode animated series costs about 300 million yen (currently $2,517,729). Mind you, the following is a bit out of date in terms of industry output, but the numbers for the episode budget holds up: the average budget per episode in 2010 appeared to be 11 million Japanese yen (currently $92,278.01). This is consistent with Mabuchi Yuuko's claims of managing episodes with budgets of $90,000.Bullza wrote:According to ANN the the average cost of an anime episode is $100,000 to $300,000 and even if Battle of Gods cost as little as $300,000 per 20 minutes it'd still put the film well over a million being a 100+ minute film.
According to Page 15 of this Kidscreen magazine, a 22-minute hand drawn episode costs $300,000-500,000. According to the audio commentary for Superman: Unbound the films have a budget of three or so regular TV episodes put together. That makes sense, given they are under the length of four episodes, typically. The figure for $2-3 usually comes from the overall yearly budget. They put out three films a year. This means each film is about $900,000 give or take. There's a lot more to a production budget than just the animation cost. A DC animated straight to DVD movie costs $2-3 million itself.
Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2015 Movie Thread: "Fukkatsu no F"
Yeah but as I said there's a lot more to it than just stacking the cost of the episodes together, that'd be more along the lines of the History of Trunks TV movie. Even these DC animated movies are just made for TV viewing. It obviously costs a lot more to produce something for a Theatre and especially an IMAX screen and then to also convert it to 3D as well.
According to this thread it implies Green Light First Flight had a budget of $2 million and Insiders predict the films have budgets of $3.5 million.
http://www.toonzone.net/forums/dc-anima ... ovies.html
If the average cost of a TV episode was $300,000-$500,000 they wouldn't be spending the low end of that on a movie that usually includes celebrity voices. The movies are all about 75-80 minutes as well so $900,000 wouldn't really fit anyway. Battle of Gods was also about half an hour longer too.
Batman Mask of Phantasm which is 22 years old had a budget of $6 million itself.
It's definitely a production that costs in the millions.

Mr Famicom is a notorious troll across message boards, so don't believe what he says regarding budgets. The movie's staff even laughed that figure off on Twitter, saying they'd be paid more if the films were that high a budget.Bullza wrote:According to this thread it implies Green Light First Flight had a budget of $2 million and Insiders predict the films have budgets of $3.5 million.

All of DC's animated series typically use 'celebrity voice talent', so the higher pay is already factored in to that.If the average cost of a TV episode was $300,000-$500,000 they wouldn't be spending the low end of that on a movie that usually includes celebrity voices. It cost six million because the production team didn't know how to spend their money wisely, to say nothing of paying folks by the hour, instead of by their quantity or quality of work.Batman Mask of Phantasm which is 22 years old had a budget of $6 million itself.
It's definitely a production that costs in the millions.
