Ahh! Everyone knows exactly what I was going to comment on! How come everyone has been mentioning my interests recently (i.e. DS, Wii, Zelda, Marvel)? If there some kind of conspiracy?Olivier Hague wrote:It was never released, actually.Akira wrote:The Master Quest was a more difficult and challenging version of Ocarina of Time. So what, if I'm misinformed it makes you look bad?VegettoEX wrote: Like has been explained, it's flat-out NOT "Ten-Kai-Ichi" or "Ten-Kai-Chi" (see the image I've posted earlier), and I don't want anyone being misled by the title of the thread. As another point, the subtitles I've seen on FUNimation's discs... I think both from Steve and Clyde... use "Tenkaichi Tournament".

I sincerly hope they simplify that to... oh... crossing your arms quickly and then pushing your hands in front of you. XD Trying to mimic Trunks accurately would be a pain.veshira wrote:Whoa, awesome clip! O_O; I can't wait to play this on the Wii! (Question: How would you do Burning Attack?! XD)

Yeah, I'll probably call for the people of Earth to help when I do the Genki Dama. . . . . . Like I already do.

That's so vague I can't formulate a reply. I'll try though.Adamant wrote:Why should we buy a box that does the exact same thing as it's predecessors, just shinier, when we could get something that actually provides something NEW?MajinVejitaXV wrote: why should we buy the very nearly same hardware over again, I ask you?
One could say all video games systems have, and always will, do the same thing: Play games. Does the Wii change the interface? Sure. Will it take? Only time will tell. I'm open to it, and I'll try it, I'm simply saying it doesn't excite me.
If you're talking about the PS3, however, since I showed some interest earlier, than you obviously are not unbiased enough to read about what the PS3 will offer.
It's got a Linux based OS that will enable people to create their own games, and port many emulators to be used directly on the PS3.
Then, there's BluRay (which, yes, I have an HDTV and I realize not everyone does). Nice thing is, in my mind, that BluRay has new regions that put us in the same region as Japan. Wanna import movies? Do so to your hearts contentment.
Also, and this is funny since we're fans of a Japanese show/games, it's region free for games. So, say I wanna import the next DBZ game (assuming the software engineers don't implement a software lock)? No need for system modification or a Japanese console.
The PS3 does plenty of new stuff. Don't try and act as though it's just 'shinier', that just shows willful ignorance.
As stated before, however, I will remain wary of Nintendo because of my own experience with them. Their path always seems to be to cut out things and state that 'no one uses them', like the Progressive Scan output on the Gamecube. No one used it because those cables weren't sold by anyone but Nintendo in their own online store. Now, they've decided that DVD or even music CD support is too expensive. It doesn't kill anyone, but it seems kind of cheap to skip out on.
If they bring out the software to support their system, I'll buy it. Will I snag it on opening day? Hell no. I won't even think of touching a 360/Wii/PS3 until next year, probably summertime. I didn't buy a PS2 until '02, or an Xbox/Gamecube until '03 afterall.

Then again, it looks like Sony will do everything it can to prevent you from importing, this time around... They're apparently planning to deal with that exactly like they did with the PlayStation Portable, and boy was that ugly...MajinVejitaXV wrote:Also, and this is funny since we're fans of a Japanese show/games, it's region free for games. If you're referring to the Lik-Sang case, that was just hardware I believe, not software. Buying a Japanese PS3 would be somewhat foolish anyway, since their launch supply is lower and the prices (with shipping added) are about level with the US.Olivier Hague wrote:Then again, it looks like Sony will do everything it can to prevent you from importing, this time around... I may be mistaken, but I heard that you couldn't buy Japanese PlayStation Portable games there either... And I really expect Sony to follow the same policy with PlayStation 3 games...MajinVejitaXV wrote:If you're referring to the Lik-Sang case, that was just hardware I believe, not software.
I don't intend to buy the console at launch anyway. Do you? ^^;Buying a Japanese PS3 would be somewhat foolish anyway, since their launch supply is lower and the prices (with shipping added) are about level with the US.
As for buying a Japanese PlayStation 3... I guess I'll wait and see 1) if the games really are "region-free", and 2) how the online services work exactly in the different territories.

Just checked, it was the hardware only. I'm sure places like Amazon.co.jp still won't ship software out of Japan, but you'll have your vendors like Lik-Sang and YesAsia or whatnot that will.Olivier Hague wrote:I may be mistaken, but I heard that you couldn't buy Japanese PlayStation Portable games there either... No thanks, someone else can beta-test. I've got quite the backlog of games anyhowI don't intend to buy the console at launch anyway. Do you? ^^;
Actually, the BluRay regions are different than normal DVD's:And if you buy a japanese PS3 then you won't be able to play local Blu-Ray, which are not region free.
Region code Area
A/1 North America, South America, East Asia except for China
B/2 Europe, Middle East, Africa and Oceania
C/3 China, Russia and South Asia.
As you can see, I (living in North America) fall into the same region as East Asia (which includes Japan). Since those are the only two countries I buy movies from, I'm set.
My only concern, assuming PS3 games actually are region free, is my PSX/PS2 library. They haven't said whether the backwards compatibility will be region free, and if it isn't I'll have to hold on to my PS2. Hopefully, that won't be the case.

Depends on where you live, Play-Asia, and I guess Lik-Sang too now, won't ship PSP hard- or software to the EU and some other countries.Just checked, it was the hardware only. Just give Sony some time, and they'll stop americans from importing as well.
As for the lack of DVD support, while I agree that the Gamecube should've had it, you can get a perfectly functionable DVD player for about 20$ nowadays (and the DVD players included in the PS2 and Xbox weren't exactly top-rate). And come on, who doesn't have a DVD player nowadays apart from those who have no interest in playing DVDs? Even if you want both a console and a DVD player now, a Wii and a DVD player will still be cheaper than the cheapest option.
What I was saying was pretty much "why get a PS3 when you can get a Wii?", yes. I am very much aware of of what the PS3 has to offer: Shinier graphics, a bluray player I never asked for, and which will bump the price to hell and beyond (and the step from VHS to DVD was much larger than the step from DVD to Bluray/HD-DVD will be... and we don't even know which format will be the next leading one yet), and a Linux based operative system. All three consoles will have operative systems, Microsoft is creating some kind of "make your own games"-network, and emulators? Sony are doing their damndest to prevent PSP users from using them, and I believe they are going to force a patch to stop the newest emulators on you every time you go online (unless you're talking about the Virtual Console emulators, in which case all three systems will have them). Really, exactly what justifies paying so much for a PS3 instead of getting a 360, and why get something that offers nothing but the same old with more flash instead of something that's actually new (the Wii)?MajinVejitaXV wrote:If you're talking about the PS3, however, since I showed some interest earlier, than you obviously are not unbiased enough to read about what the PS3 will offer.

And don't forget, no rumble in the controller!
Furthermore, there is no guarantee that Bluray will succeed, for all we know it'll be the next CD-i (don't remember it? Exactly).
Either way, for us DB fans the PS3 doesn't have much to offer yet, even the X-Box 360 has more to offer with Blue Dragon, featuring character designs by Toriyama-san himself. =D

I own onePedro The Hutt wrote:Furthermore, there is no guarantee that Bluray will succeed, for all we know it'll be the next CD-i (don't remember it? Exactly).
The CD-i failed because of the lack of focus. What was it? Was it a game console? Was it a video player? Was it a music player? Was it an entertainment center? Was it an education tool? Was it a photo viewer? Was it... anything, really? It was intended to be something for everyone, from your 2-year-old little brother who could have a fairy tale read to him, to you who wanted to blast evil aliens in a top-notch video game, to your older brother who wanted to learn to play guitar, your older sister who wanted to watch music videos with her idols, your father who wanted to watch the newest action movie, your grandfather who wanted to check out the works of Rembrandt, and finally your mother, who wanted to make her own work-out program. No one really knew what they wanted to release for the thing, and all of these different target groups ended up with very few titles aimed towards them. The PS3 isn't exactly headed in that direction, no matter how much Sony says that it's not just a game console.
As for the CD-i movie format, it was pretty much VCD with a different name.
