Going into a film not knowing anything about the plot (other than the basics) is the best experience ever. Buuuut I cannot stop clicking this thread everytime it is bumped lol so in that regard the lack of info is a good thing for me. I need stronger willpower to avoid this thread.

Maybe we have so little information because its a Freeza movie and they don't want to spoil it since some people that would go for the heros aren't going to watch it otherwise?

Someone said pages ago that it could be because of its international release, I'm siding by this theory, but its still sad :(

THAT or it's a horrible film and they're hiding it.... :(
Agree, this is ridiculous, its not possible that we can't even have some feeling of threat like what we had with BoG (although there was almost no threat in the actual movie).

I need to know why Freeza is a threat, a new transformation doesn't count, Goku apparently defeated either, the new look of the characters I know they will explain it in a few minutes and it won't be addressed anymore later in the movie. The angels are probably going to sing the main song to keep Freeza captured in Hell...

Yeah, it's just eating away at my patience that they won't tell us, even as much as BOG. I'd settle for knowing as much about F as we knew about BOG this time two years ago.

They're setting us up for disappointment it feels like. :(
I don't like it.

For all I know though, it could be something great! But at least tease us with something more.

Dammit! I know it's good for business, but I can't stand it when Japan does this. Give me everything on one album!

Still, though. Releasing almost a month after the film premieres? They really don't want to reveal anything about the story. I just know they're hiding something huge.
I think the something huge will be Freeza's transformation....

I know things aren't going be exactly the same as they were last time, but I remember I thought they were hiding something with BOG, but (aside from the ending) it turned out there were none of the massive plot twists that I was expecting (particularly in regards to a certain Whis) and the story was way more simplistic than our months of speculation had made it out to be. Although I recognize that that is half of the fun, the majority of the movie's plot had been laying in front of our eyes by the time Julian and Kei17's full summary of the film went up. In regards to them being deliberately secretive, I don't think this is necessarily the case. Obviously they're gonna want to keep some things under wraps, but I don't think they're intending to keep us in the dark any more than they did for BOG at this point. While we did know more about the latter at this time, we are looking at a later release date for this movie and it's already been confirmed that we'll have a wealth of new information before the end of February. I'm sure March will be extremely full-on as well, and there's still a good week and a half left in this month.

Just gotta sit back and be patient. There's still a good couple of months before the movie officially hits theatres (ignoring any preview screenings).

EDIT: Er, I'm also noticing Shoko Nakagawa's name being mentioned under 'cast' in a lot of product and promotional listings. Is this just a carry over from last movie or is she due to make a comeback?

Don't lack the lack of info kill your hype. Yeah, it's kind of frustrating, but that only make you even more more anxious to watch the film.

I believe Toriyama can deliver. :P

I doubt it. Think about it, if they are setting you up for disappointment wouldn't they be trying to throw every detail? Get you all hyped too see it? Just Like Sony have done for TASM2 80% of that film was in the promotional material (fwiw I enjoyed the film but there is no denying a lot people were left disappointed). Also, take Chris Nolan for example he shrouds his films in secrecy, and imo they have yet to disappoint me (and a lot of other people) since AT has full reigns on this it wouldn't surprise me if he was the one to request the secrecy.

I like this speculation of secrecy, but I'm a little uneasy since the film seems as if it's being rushed out the door to meet a deadline.
I would be very on-edge if it weren't for Torishima, and even then I can only put so much stock in his praise.

I suspect I'll enjoy this movie, but I'm not going in expecting grand revelations, or Dragon Ball at its best.

Don't forget we got updates on Dragonball Evolution nearly everyday for years until that movie's release. The amount of info we are getting doesn't determine the quality of the movie. Plus didn't the voice actors just recently get done with recording? There's still lots of editing and post production to do.

My main worry for this movie is that somehow they ruin Freeza's character, with some OoCness or redemption nonsense. I doubt it, but it's always possible. Up until Toriyama got his hands on Bardock, he was actually a character. Nevertheless, Toriyama has handled Freeza before, so I shouldn't worry much.

If the whole film hinges on Freeza's new transformation then this does make sense. Hide how he's revived, hide his transformation, and let the hype build based entirely on the premise that the franchise's biggest villain is back.

Battle of Gods' marketing seemed to be about subverting our impressions of Beerus so that the film's real contents would be a pleasant surprise to fans.

I feel like there's gonna be a lot of surprises in this film that they'd rather not spoil.

That...or, you know, this film is going to be cheap garbage.

I don't see any point for the movie to be rushed. They could have a lot of time to do it.
BOG came 17 years later. Pretty sure fans could wait more for this one too. Its not like Toei can't milk the series in other way.

Yamamuro being the director doesn't affect me either. I'm sure we will still get some cool battle scenes.
May not be best movie ever but I doubt it won't be garbage.

It might be different for the Japanese Animation studio industry, but usually if a studio isn't really confident with their film, they don't release much information on it and shove all the best parts in the trailer. Also, I don't remember Nolan's works being in secrecy. Although I work in film, so maybe I just get more to see than the average joe.

Sony's handling of SM is so weird. Raimi showed them great success with Spider-Man 2 both critically and commercially, and Sony stripes away creative freedom for the sequel, and then hires someone without a unique voice or aesthetic for the reboot series. I miss Raimi. :(

I don't really have any worries about whether this film will at least be 'enjoyable'. Since I'm among those that loved just about everything Battle of Gods had to offer, and this one's got even more Toriyama influence going into it, well...I dunno, I'm just pretty confident I'm probably going to get some level of enjoyment out of what's in store.

I for one am still hoping that at least part of the secrecy, even if they don't actually do anything in the movie, is involving a slightly older looking Goten and Trunks.

The movie was announced 15 July 2014. Kami to Kami was announced 10 July 2012, meaning the two films are on relatively the same production schedule. Yamamuro Tadayoshi claims he was contacted of "March of last year" (the interview was released in 2013), meaning character designing had not taken place yet, so in all likelihood he had already been contacted about working on Fukkatsu no F at a similar time in 2014. In March of 2014 Yamamuro was acting as character designer for Disk Wars: Avengers, Tate Naoki joined him starting in October, meaning sometime during summer and fall Yamamuro's focus shifted to Fukkatsu no F. We know from Twitter that when Shida Naotoshi did his work on the 2013 film he did it during November, which lines up. Now, we know that recording for Fukkatsu no F took place only recently, meaning enough animation was finally finished. The movie is going to be shown on 30 March 2015, meaning it will be finished by then.

We also need to keep in mind that most of the good animators that regularly work on Toei Animation projects have all been busy working on other projects. That's what happens when you have a film in production while you're also producing ten weekly television series. Oonishi Ryou has been the character designer and a regular key animator on Majin Bone, meaning it's unlikely he worked on Fukkatsu no F. Shida's not working on the film, either, so that's two good animators out. Even when Kami to Kami had Oonishi, Hamano Yuu'ichi, and Shida they barely worked on the film. In fact, it only had six animation supervisors. A film being made on this short a schedule needs about three times as many animation supervisors and talented action animators.

This is to say nothing of giving the film to a first time director who hasn't animated much in the past twenty years and is known for having no real storyboarding skill.

In other words, shit's lookin' bad.

To be clear, that is just a fan-manga and has absolutely nothing to do with the official three-chapter manga coming from Toyotaro in the upcoming issues of V-Jump.
