Ex-DBZ actors at Sakura Con

Post by Super Sonic » Fri Apr 09, 2004 10:55 pm

I just thought I'd make this announcement to the guys here. Former DBZ actors Scott McNeil and Michael Dobson will be making appearances at Sakura Con, the anime convention just outside of Seattle, Washington. The dates are April 23-25. So if there are any other board members who reside in the Pacific Northwest, you might get to meet them in person.

Dressing up as Pan is quite popular right now at conventions here. SpiritBomb, you're in Ottawa?! I just noticed now, so am I! And if you want to see Scott McNeil he will be at AnimeNorth. 8)

It is true. He's the ''Evil Masked Villain''.

If I were to believe ImDB.com.

I wasn't overly keen on the first Scooby Doo movie, but I did think the real identity of the villian was sheer genius.

As to who to dress as...if you're seeing McNeil, why not try for a giant metallic rat with wheels? And adopt a Bronx accent.

(And was Dobson Rhinox? I forget...)

I don't know about Rhinox but you could go as Starscream to meet Mr. Dobson, ( though I think the late Mr. Latta's Starscream was more evil).

No Rhinox was Phil Newman(I actually thought he did a great Ginyu, incidentally). Paul Dobson did Tankor though.

Ahh. I'm guessing he also does Starscream in Armada/Energon?

I remember Chris Psaros always said that Newman would have been great for Cell. I'd have quite liked to have heard David Kaye as Cell, doing a voice half way between his Professor X and Megatron. But Newman would have been interesting.

And G1 Starscream was never evil! He was a big, camp, wimpy scheming toad. And we loved him for it.

(Although his expression when dumping Megatron in the movie is a bit evil, I suppose.)

Actually, I don't know if he does Starscream in Armada/Energon or not. I'll have to doublecheck that the next episode I watch.

I also would have liked to see David Kaye do Cell. He would have been perfect for the role. I personally think that he and Brian Drummond get really overlooked because of Mr.Scott "Man-of-a-Thousand-Voices" McNeil.
I actually prefer Kaye over McNeil personally. I thought his Treize Krushrenanda in Gundam Wing was excellent, and proves he's just as good at comedic voices as Akane's ftaher in Ranma.

Some of his comedic timing with Megs was also awesome, particularly that season 3 BW episode where he's trying to get the little proto-human girl to do what he wants.

I never realised he was Treize either. Wow.

Hmm. Gary Chalk seems to be the only BW regular not to have done a DBZ voice. And he should be easy to spot, since he either uses his natural speaking voice for all his roles, or he's just very good at making it sound like his natural speaking voice. (I really like his Man-At-Arms, although he it in a lot during Armada. Not that I could blame him.)

Everybody I know loves that scene! And of course Kaye was brilliant as Megs! You know one voice that Gary Chalk did that I didn't recognize right away was Hack or Slash(I can never remember which one), in Reboot. I know McNeil did the other one.

Jerseymilk, yay! We're from the same place! Cool! I'm amazed at how many Canadians are here, i thought everyone here would be American. I was surprised when I noticed Zack is from Toronto too...

Anywho, so Scott McNeil is in Scooby Doo 2? YAY! I get to see Piccolo! I wonder if he puts on one of his famous voices. I heard he passed out once from doing a power-up. Dude, we have to appreciate the work these guys do for us.

As for the costume thing again, I say a great costume would be Chung-Li from Street Fighter, but knowing me, I would likely go as either Kagome from Inu Yasha or Sakura from Street Fighter. I kind of like the whole school-girl thingy but it must be too un-original so I would be Chung-Li!

So, I'll be able to see Scott Mcneil at that AnimeNorth? Cool! Will AnimeNorth be coming in exactly in Ottawa?
Some day, you'll be wishing for today.

Man... I live just a few hours outside of where Sakuracon is being held... I wish I could go, but I've had a lack of funds the last few years.
Battle High 2, starring Kyle Hebert as well as myself, has been released on Xbox 360, OUYA, PC, Linux, Mac, and Xbox One!

Yes I think the Canadians are taking over! Dayspring's in Montreal, Zacko's in Toronto, Mattias is in London, I think, and myself, now you too are here in Ottawa, oh yes and Zacko's friend Keithito is also in Ontario. It's really strange isn't it? AnimeNorth is held in Toronto every year. If you want info on attending, then just go to http:/www.animenorth.com . The good news is though that a classmate of mine(also an anime fan) is a member of SOAP, they're the local anime club in Ottawa. Anyway, she informed about a month ago that the group will be having the first anime convention here in Ottawa in the fall. It will only be a one-day thing and there won't be much to it I suspect, but it's at least a start. 8)

Dammit, why is everything in Canada.. As well as the few friends I've made on this board.

Fate's trying to kick me in the ass.

That's okay man. Just emigrate from the States and come over here! You can stay with Zacko! I'll order him to put you up! :D Come to AnimeNorth too! I can't go this year due to, well finances and all, so someone's going to have to hunt down and kill all those annoying fangirls! Plus tells us what all the ex-DBZ actors are up to. :D

Only problem is that I live way down in South Carolina and it cost hundreds of bucks for me to go to MA and go to a program at MIT for only 3½ days. And I didn't even pay for meals (I was staying at Toast's house).

Don't worry! Zacko will pay for everything! If he doesn't, he'll never see his little precious kusari and kunais again! He'll be forced to kill fangirls with his teeth!
